Watching Paradox Interactive transition from AA into a AAA studio has been painful. “Historical strategy simulator” is a pretty tough genre to attack as an indie dev, though.

The USA is huge. IDK what country you’re from, but I’ll use France as a point of comparison because it’s large and the capital isn’t really in the center.

Bayonne->Paris is about the farthest you can be from the capital while still living in mainland France. That’s 770 km.

This is shorter than the distance from Washington DC->Atlanta, which is in one of the original 13 colonies. It’s pretty close to the distance from DC->Indianapolis, but that’s still within the 1776 USA borders (albeit, an unorganized territory of the 13 colonies).

Add in the Louisiana purchase and various conquests westward, and a Californian visiting DC can be like visiting Paris from Kuwait.

It’s reasonably common for USians to visit their state capital at some point in our lives, but visiting DC is definitely an upper-middle class vacation unless you happen to live in a nearby state already.

In practice, this means Vanguard/Fidelity/Schwab/etc have people whose job it is to research and vote in shareholder meetings for the companies where the fund has significant ownership. That’s a big part of what the fund’s expense ratio is paying for.

I think their point was that MacOS -> GNOME was a smoother transition than a diffetent desktop environment would have been, which led to them naturally discovering more keyboard-oriented workflows. Not that GNOME is any more keyboard oriented than other DEs.

If you need some plausible deniability about it being real work and not just obviously you running up costs:

Feed it a bunch of work-related documentation and then have it do a bunch of reviews of the content on that documentation.

A congressperson serving on a congressional committee for a technical topic is very different from a rando appointed to the head of a specialized department of the executive branch.

Some eastern languages have totally different counting words depending on WHAT you’re counting. One set of number-words for flat things, another set for long things, another set for printed/bound things, another set for things with handles…

I’d argue that VPNs remain one of the highest return-on-investment (time and money) steps towards online security, as many gaps as they do have in the big picture.

It’s not going to make you untraceable. But it’ll make you difficult enough to trace that nobody’s gonna put forth the effort to target you specifically unless you’ve attracted like, nation-state attention. (Targeting you as a member of some demographic a la advertisers, yeah not much effect).

Understand that the precursor to at-will employment was that you walk away from your job and get arrested for breaking contract, and your family gets evicted without you able to earn money to pay for their food or shelter.
