Much like how the iphones don’t have AI… they have Apple Intelligence (which, even though it could and should be shortened to its AI acronym, isn’t). Apple is all about marketing, even when it makes no difference and everyone knows they’re full of shit.

Marketing is like a ditch, Apple is simply very good at luring you into it. Many people see the piece of meat hanging over the ditch and jump in, whilst the more smart ones look at the hole with disdain and try to help those who have fallen in, but fail because it’s too deep

My biggest problem is that I have to either order contacts or order special lenses just to use it. Trying to wear glasses in VR is very cumbersome and annoying, plus you risk scratching the lenses. They need to find a way to make the headset smaller and easier to wear, and have it automatically adjust to your vision as well (which will never happen until they get rid of that pointless law that requires you to see an overpriced doctor every year to get a prescription.)

As someone who’s had similar issues, I’ve previously wondered if it would be possible to ‘simulate’ a prescription lens and have the headset just add a distortion to the video feed that approximates what your lenses do.

You need to refocus the light rays to a corrected position on your retina so you can’t simulate it with a screen, you need the lens. There are such things as programmable lenses but they are extremely experimental technology. Maybe in a decade.

the tldr is no, because the optical effects you can correct that way are not the ones that glasses/contacts exist to correct for.

Gotcha. I’m like the Zuck in the sense that I don’t get sickness in VR, so I forget that it’s a major issue for most other people. Full joystick locomotion with all the motion sickness assists turned off is the only way to go for me. (They break immersion.) I never got headaches from 3D movies and games either. I really miss that era of PC gaming because the glasses were a lot less cumbersome than a headset.

I feel really bad for those who have motion sickness issues with games; happened to me one time when I was drinking too much one day and then made the mistake of hitting the live resin. So I completely get why those who suffer wouldn’t want to touch VR. I sure wouldn’t if that was my normal experience.

Yeah the it was hilariously satisfying to see the whole Meta Worlds thing (or whatever it was called) fail spectacularly. Zuck actually believed that everyone would want to spend their lives in a VR headset with a 2 hour battery life because he tried it once and didn’t get sick.

Also they were kinda late to the AI game, shouldve took some hints from apple, lol. and sit back and watch the industry. im guessing if your meta social media platform is all about making fake engagement and riling people up politically, its natural the ROBOT Zuck is drawn to it.

I love VR even though it does take a while to get used to and moving around in it makes me super queasy after 20 minutes or so unless I am actually moving.

However, I find the most uncomfortable feeling comes from leaving VR after an extended time in it. It feels like you’re dreaming and can’t wake up. Everything just feels super weird for about an hour or two after taking the headset off.

Technically it doesn’t “make” people motion sick, they are motion sick either way. But VR offers a very accessible way to train away your motion sickness. Since you can actually stop early enough to reinforce that your brain doesn’t need to protect you. A car ride or boat is much harder to stop at a moments notice.

If you keep reinforcing that you don’t need motion sickness, your brain stops doing it to you. It thinks it’s helping.

Similarly, the medication for car ride or boat motion sickness works for VR too. So they can help you be able to spend more time in each session while training it away.

It wasn’t helped by the fact that Apple did their standard thing of making a product without thinking about how one would use that product.

It’s a special computer, you can use it like you use a laptop, says Apple, while completely ignoring the fact that it has a battery life that would be considered short by the standards of an elderly mayfly.

All you have to do to make full use of this highly expensive product, is to also buy this other highly expensive product that we make. Because really it isn’t a special computer, it’s a screen with gyros attached.

There was little mention of it at the last Apple Developer Conference in June. They haven’t given up, but it’s not on the iPhone/Mac hardware upgrade cadence.

Face-based computing has been around for a while. It’s got a lot to overcome.
