    Except for that part where he really wasn’t a vegetarian. It’s hard to support a claim of being vegetarian while eating liver dumplings, after all.

    We could successfully argue that he was on a meat-reduced diet post-1937, and that he seemed to aspire to vegetarianism (something that he also used for propaganda purposes), but eating meat (like his beloved liver dumplings) kind of makes it clear he wasn’t actually one.

      Not according to practically all my older family members.

      “You’re vegetarian? No meat? Oh my god how will we feed you! You do eat sausage though, do you? Or Chicken? Fish? Brain (true detail, apparently it’s “not meat”)? Or this meat broth, surely that’s ok?”

        I remember meeting “vegetarians” who would eat chicken. I cannot fathom the mindset.
