Federation of Southern Cooperatives

The Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund (the Federation) is a 58-year-old, non-profit cooperative association of primarily Black farmers, landowners, and cooperatives. Our mission is to be a catalyst for the development of self-supporting communities through cooperative economic development, land retention, and advocacy. We envision sustainable rural communities supported by a network of farmers, landowners, and cooperatives based on local control and ownership.

Barbara Johnson

I am continuing to support former Alaska Cooperative Development Center (ACDC) clients, primarily on a volunteer basis, while seeking new funding streams to sustain cooperative development in Alaska. My current efforts focus on outreach and education about the value of cooperatives and the importance of maintaining state-level co-op development capacity. I’m also working to build partnerships and strengthen local expertise to ensure long-term support for cooperative formation and growth across Alaska.
