Beans & plant based protein sources are dirt cheap. Big beef can get fucked
This cannot be stressed enough.
Taking the price of every beef product and averaging their price changes makes the increase in the cost of ground beef look not as bad. When filet mignon costs an extra $2.00 a pound the price will have gone up by 10% to 15%. When ground beef costs an extra $2.00 a pound the price has gone up by 40% to 50%.

Well, the egg problem was solved. Probably was going to happen with or without trump.
Now everything else is higher. One step forward, 100 steps back.
Is it great yet?
I’m tired of winning.
So now we know for certain they did something very specific to reduce the price of eggs (because that’s the example people were using).
So what exactly did they do?
The egg prices were a result of price fixing in an effort to undermine the Biden administration and get Trump elected.
The 3 companies involved were fined ($3.3 million, after profiting 1.2 Billion from it).
And here’s the source: https://apnews.com/article/egg-prices-collusion-settlement-d32b05892541613df3f4e4932109ee0c
The states and federal government accused Cal-Maine Foods, Versova and Hickman’s Egg Ranch of a behind-the-scenes arrangement to “artificially inflate the daily price quotations for eggs” between June 2022 and March 2025. In particular, their investigation found that the companies coordinated on what bids they would submit to Urner Barry Publications, a company that runs an index key to determining how much grocery stores, restaurants and others pay for billions of eggs each year.
Cal-Maine — the only of the three companies that is public and reports quarterly financials — reported a profit of $1.22 billion for the 2025 fiscal year. Under its settlement agreement with the states, the company would pay $1.5 million and donate 30 million eggs.
A slap on the wrist.
They profited closer to $4-5 billion. That $1.2 billion figure was for one year, from the one publicly traded company. The three largest egg producers participated in this for 4 years.
I wish the fines were at least somewhat in line with the profit. There is no negative incentive to bend at the knee.
Was that market just recovering from purges in flocks due to avian flu outbreak? So even with Trumps shenanigans it was still going to drop. I’d have review the timeline though, but that is what I suspect
There was an outbreak with Biden and that lead to one increase which started to stabilize. Then there was either supposedly another outbreak under the orange-doodoo-dodo and afterwards the prices started to stabilize again.
Wait, price of eggs is down? I thought they definitely were high for at least a good couple months
They were up due to bird flu and I think that isn’t as destructive now as it used to be.
I last bought eggs for 99c a dozen. They’ve been down for quite a few months.
I just got a 5 dozen pack from Costco for $7. I remember those being like $20-25 a couple years ago.
