A Tiny Game, a Big Thanks
Thank you so much for playing! Your support, feedback, bug reports, and all the kind words mean the world to me and I'm genuinely grateful for every one of you.
This little community we've built together means just as much to me as the game itself. I truly hope Serenitrove continues to bring a bit of peace and joy into your lives, because you've all brought so much of that into mine.
Serenitrove will always be free to play. If you'd like to support something meaningful, consider adopting or even name a sea turtle through the Oceanic Society: https://www.oceanicsociety.org/adopt/adopt-a-sea-turtle/ (or contribute to any other wildlife-focused organization you care about). If you do, feel free to let me know, it would truly make my day!

I had played the game close to its initial release and just came back to it kind of randomly and was delighted to find it was still receiving updates. Very nice project!
I have now completed all the content (minus winning the jackpot and maxing focus levels, cause idc about that lol). I might do another playthrough rejecting the leatherworker at the start just to see how much of a difference it makes (also read in a comment you haven't had someone beat nix farfields in hard mode, so that might be an achievement to try and grab)
A couple bits of feedback from my playthrough (I restarted my save file when I came back):
-Diamonds are extremely strange in terms of progression, their rarity and pricing makes sense before farfield gets unlocked but after that they remain a strange roadblock. I forget if it was for an extra light or extra power upgrade but getting the 15 diamonds for it was such a hassle that by the time I got that particular upgrade I had enough "rarer" resources from farfields to immediately unlock the next 3 or 4 steps of progression along that upgrade line.
-Cobalt and vermillion both seem extremely abundant for how much of them you need, with copper/iron/gold/titanium I think there's a very good balance of initial scarcity, following abundance, and scarcity again once you start running low on quartz and realize they can still have some use through selling. Cobalt and vermillion suffer pretty greatly from not being sellable. Getting your first few pieces is very difficult and rewarding without farfield upgrades in general but once you get a single farfield tool you can quickly get much more than you need and it's sad to consistently ignore these initially precious metals while titanium still has some decent value.
-It would be nice if more tools had niches to fill. It's interesting that the diamond pick still has some use in the very end game, and it would be nice if other older tools still had some incentive to be present later on. Maybe even just some awkward quests for special resources needed for endgame progression or just achievements for using inappropriate tools would be nice.
-I wish power progression was a bit more spread out, currently the spike from 5(6?) to 10 just feels too extreme and while you don't actually get it all at once you spend such a comparatively long time stuck at the max level pre-farfields so once you slightly get going there you get whiplash rocketing forward. Even though the final upgrade wasn't trivial to get it also wasn't that painfully necessary to survive as the previous ones.
Overall I love this game and really appreciate the work you've put into it. My wall of feedback comes purely from a place of love <3
Welcome back! Thanks again for playing and for the kind words! I try to keep updating regularly to polish the game and fix any bugs. At this point though, the game feels stable and bug-free, so I've been focusing more on QoL improvements and localization.
I agree that diamonds are one of the more difficult resources to balance progression-wise. I've done several playthroughs myself, and it often comes down to rng. In some runs I get lucky with slots/treasure chests or diamond spawns, and they end up feeling almost trivial. In other runs, I've had the exact same experience you described, where diamonds become a major bottleneck and I spend a long time actively hunting for them. I'm still looking for a good solution to reduce that rng dependence, possibly some kind of exchange system. I've considered lowering diamond costs before, but I don't think that's the right approach since players with good rng would end up finding diamonds even less meaningful.
As for Cobalt and Vermilion, part of the reason they become so common is Griddle. Their spawn rates in Farfields are mainly designed around Griddle's survivability. I also try not to add too many pre-Farfields ores to Farfields, which leaves me with only two metal types to work with. But I do agree they lose a lot of their value once you've progressed a bit. I'll be adding the ability to sell Cobalt and Vermilion to Bits & Bobs in a future update, and I'm also considering introducing a third metal ore to Farfields to help balance resource distribution.
Regarding older tools, I think it's quite common for early-game gear to be phased out as stronger options become available, but I like the idea of giving them more niche uses. Special achievements tied to older tools could be fun.
For power progression after unlocking Farfields, there were two approaches I considered. The first was to continue progression at a similar pace, where training Power 7 would take as long as (or even longer than) reaching the pre-Farfields cap. The second was to treat Farfields as a new chapter, where players basically go through an early-game progression curve again, with faster initial upgrades before things become more demanding later on. I went with the second approach because I felt players would be more excited to start exploring the early Farfields layers and mechanics sooner rather than later.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. I'm always grateful when players dig into the game this deeply ;), and comments like yours are incredibly valuable for helping me improve it.
P.S. Rejecting the Tanning Rack (Hardmode) is intended more as a challenge run than a fully balanced progression path. There isn't any progression balancing built around it, so it's extremely difficult. As far as I know, nobody has beaten Hardmode Farfields with Nix yet, and I'm honestly not sure it's even possible in the current version.
no es facil
¡Está genial que hayas llegado a la capa de magma tan pronto! Intenta subir tu dojo al máximo y, si tienes Winterheart (Corazón de Infierno), te vendrá de maravilla. ¡Mucha suerte!
gooooood 💖💖💖💖💖💖 but I want android version 😭
This is one of the best digging games i've ever played, hands down!
This definitely deserve 1000+ downloads :D
P.S. What programming language is this written in? (This has html/js vibes, that or its PHP which I doubt)
By the way, I'm having a bit of trouble exporting my JavaScript projects to a .html file, to be published here. How do I do that?
Thanks again for making this awesome game! :)
Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying the game :)
Serenitrove is written in HTML and JavaScript. No PHP involved since the game runs entirely on the client side.
If you're trying to upload your HTML/JS game to itch.io, you'll need to include your index.html file along with any JavaScript, CSS and asset files your project uses. Put everything into a .zip archive and upload that to itch.io. The main HTML file needs to be named index.html for itch.io's browser-based hosting to work correctly.
Good luck with your project and thanks again for playing!
Thank you for the tips! :D
Is the Viridian Drill supposed to use 2 stamina? All it saves is your S key.
The forced 2-digs-down effect is actually intended as a drawback to help balance the Viridian Drill's high vertical digging power in the early game.
Hi scoot, love the game I've almost finished the entire game in a week except for nix😭 do you have any tips for unlocking him?
Hi, thanks for playing! To unlock Nix, you'll need to carry a Quartz cell all the way down to the Magma layer and then dig it up there. Hope this helps! I try not to spoil things too much :)
I've never thought of it that way, thanks!
me encanta tu juego, es muy bonito
Muchas gracias por jugar y por tus amables palabras! Me alegra mucho que te haya gustado.
I absolutely adore this game. My one issue is how long it takes to gather Leather. As far as I can tell, it’s one leather per delve, but I need to keep using it to repair my boots and stuff.
I’m making good progress and all, so I’m not really complaining, it’s just the yield feels really low.
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you're enjoying the game.
As for Leather, even getting 1 Leather per run is usually enough to keep up with boot repairs. One helpful tip is to avoid repairing every time you return to the surface. Since repairs have a minimum cost of 1 Leather, you'll get much better value by waiting until your durability is lower before repairing. Footwear durability lasts quite a while (losing about 1 durability per 10 digs).
If you're still running low on Leather, you can also try spinning the slot machine for a bit. The small wins can occasionally give Leather.
Hope this helps!
REACHED WATER, is there an end to the water?
Congrats on reaching water!
No, there isn't an end to the water, as it marks the end of the first half of the game. Once you reach it, you'll unlock the Headgear slot, the Signpost (which lets you access the second part of the game), and the upgraded Flask.
Reaching water with each turtle also unlocks that turtle's unique cosmetic headgear.
thanks, I'll make sure to work for the second part to reach it
Super cute game! I'll be coming back to see how deep this lil' 🐢 can get!
I love the game, but I struggle with the relics as I always break them.
Thanks for playing! If you're having trouble with the relics minigame, you could try equipping the Relicbinder's Chisel, which gives you 4 extra extraction attempts. The general rule is that when the ping is soft, click somewhere farther away like the opposite side, and when the ping is strong, click around that area instead. Hope this helps!
Thank you! I will try this!
I broke the music :[ multiple sounds over each other.
That can happen sometimes if the music is still loading while tracks are being switched quickly. Refreshing the page should fix it.
coollll
still can't get past the magma, my max depth is 400, any tips??
If you're having trouble getting past the Magma layer, make sure your Dojo upgrades are maxed out first. Relic powers also help a lot, so try to unlock those if you haven't already. Then use your best pickaxe.
For the darkness, keep your torch on at all times in the Magma layer and use Mageflare Runes every 7-8 digs down. For the Burn debuff, Winterheart and Magmawalker boots are both very helpful if you have them. Hope this helps!
thanks scoot, love the game
aauuugguguhuaaaaaaahhhhahhhhh pt2
Congrats, reaching Deepwater with Nix is the toughest challenge in Serenitrove so far :)
Great game, but I don't think I can use the visual thing on the iron helm on mobile tho, I tried clicking the headgear visual effect on the surface and in the soil, and nothing worked :(
Thanks for playing!
I tested the iron helm visual on both mobile Safari and Chrome and it's showing up correctly. This is what I see on my mobile with Visual Effects on and the iron helm equipped:
I got far enough into the upgrades and got the 100 Quartz machine that I wondered what Excess Copper would be for, then since I was avoiding them, realized it’s what consumable items are for! Heh.
At first when I saw this (the gameplay) ii didnt like it but gave it a try. It has a nice nieche to it. Good game (like how you added block physhics too!) And maybe I cant be talkin cuz ive only made it to sand xd. Also are you able to interact with the album player and that japanese house?????
Thanks for playing and for the kind words! You can click on the structures to access them. Hope this helps!
Nice game but progression takes to long
Thanks so much for playing! Serenitrove is designed to be enjoyed over multiple sessions, whether you're on a break, commuting, or just relaxing with some free time. I've always wanted it to feel like a cozy take-your-own-time kind of game rather than something players need to rush through. I'm really glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate the feedback! :)
any chance of you posting this on steam?
I'd love to, but unfortunately it isn't possible without a major rewrite of the game. Serenitrove is a browser game built with html and js, and bringing it to steam would require rebuilding it in a game engine for better compatibility. Since it's a free-to-play game, I feel itch.io is the best fit for it right now.
ok nice :)

If you save then delete your file, can you put your save back in?
As long as you've exported your save and stored it somewhere safe, like a text file or notes app, you can restore it anytime. Just copy the saved data, select "Import" in-game, and paste the save data back in.
If you'd like to confirm it works first, you can also try running Serenitrove in a different browser or an incognito/private tab, then import your save there and see if it loads correctly.
Thank you!
coollll
Love this game so much!! Finally reached deepwater with Nix using Mycelial boots, Regen sigil and Sanguine signet.
Now trying for the Pebble Final Form and Toxin Relationship achievements :D
Thanks for playing and congrats on reaching Deepwater with Nix! That's the most difficult challenge in the game so far. Final Form and Toxin Relationship are definitely easier to complete than Nix's sigil unlock.
Glad you had fun, and good luck! :)
nice game. Is this a remake of some older game? It felt strangely familar to me
Thanks! Serenitrove is not a remake. The overall approach is new, though the core idea of digging has been done in lots of other games over the years. Many of them focus more on automated drills, machines, or mining systems, while Serenitrove takes place in a fantasy setting with turtles.
it was not meant as an offense - I really like it. I had strong deja vue regarding as if I played something similar mabe on C64. the digging mechanic and the relics retreival.
No worries, I didn't take it as an offense. Honestly, hearing that some aspects of the game feel similar to older, more established games actually reassures me that the game is heading in the right direction. And I'm really glad you're enjoying the game!
Lovely game. I really enjoyed playing it! <3 Keep up the great word :) Two quick ideas for potential achievements:
a) "strike at the heart" - mine 60 core fragments in one run (possible with the shield stack sigil and enough power and stamina. Not super hard when using the sigil, but impossible otherwise i think)
b) "lightning speed" - reach water within 60seconds (can be done in 27secs using griddle, the vermilion pickaxe, the rollerskates for the extra stamina, the violetheart pendant and the regen+1 sigil. A bit of luck, ripping the double flask on the descend and holding downwards will do the trick)
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Love the "strike at the heart" achievement idea. I'll test it further and see if it's achievable consistently. "Lightning speed" is a great idea too, but I generally try to avoid time-based achievements or mechanics since one of Serenitrove's core design goals is to stay away from time pressure gameplay (aside from the furnace, which feels fine in that context).
Really appreciate the suggestions though, and I'll definitely look into the core fragment one further :)
Finally hit the jackpot!!!
Congrats! I couldn't help but notice you've capped your Copper Ores. You should smelt them and maybe sell the Copper Bars for some extra Quartz :)
I'll be sure to try that out! Any tips for progressing further in the farfields?
For Farfields, if you've just unlocked it, try gathering some of the early Farfields resources first and focus on training at least 1 level in the Dojo. From there, try crafting some beginner Farfields tools, footwear and accessories. Also, make sure to pay attention to each layer's special effects. Farfields introduces more unique mechanics, so adapting your strategy to each layer is important. Good luck!
Nice digging sim!
I got at this point three times :(
You might want to swap out the Ladders for a stack of Mageflare Runes, since they're really useful in the deeper layers and make it much easier not to miss any restore cells (use them every 5-6 digs down). You might also want to swap out the Diamond Pickaxe for Titanium Pickaxe, as the chance of a free dig is more useful if you're trying to reach water. If it still feels too difficult, you could leave the achievement for later and focus on crafting the Signpost first. With late-game Farfields stats and equipment, you'll be able to breeze through the Fashion Statement achievement easily.
Im playing on browser and I cant figure out how to repare my golden drill, theres too much ontop of it, anyway this can be fixed? (great game btw!)
Hi thanks so much for playing and I'm glad you're enjoying the game!
About the repair issue, do you mean some UI elements are overlapping and blocking the repair button? Could you share a screenshot so I can take a closer look?
here ya go!
From your screenshot it looks like you're trying to repair the Viridian Drill, which is listed under the Iron Drill. You should be able to scroll down to see the rest of the repairable tools.
Oh sorry, should have clarified. My main issues is that it wont let me scroll down.
No worries! Are you able to scroll in other parts of the game, like the Lorestone or the Bits and Bobs Sell tab? Also, could you let me know which browser you're using?
What altar corresponds to what turtle? It's hard to remember which ones I've finished.
Thanks for the feedback, that is a great point. I will add unlocking hints on sigil slot hover in the next update.
For now, the sigils follow the same order as when you switch turtles by clicking on them, starting with Scoot as the first sigil on the altar.
Hii!! Has anyone really completed the game?? Ive managed to get all the hats and 9 sigils. But getting it with Nix seems impossible...
Hi! Yes quite a few players actually! We had some discussion about this on the Discord and a few strategies seem to work well.
The most recommended setup is Violetheart Pendant, Regen Sigil, Ironhide Greaves or Snowboots, and plenty of Mageflare Runes for the Shimmera and Umbra layers. In the Subsoil and Gravel layers, collect every Quartz you come across.
Once you reach the Underbark layer, focus on digging straight down and only grab Quartz or restore cells that are close by. Digging horizontally there can use up your shield stacks quickly. Try to balance shield stacks vs stamina.
Shield stacks fully prevent Gravel stamina damage and reduce Toxin detonation damage from 20 to 5.
In the Umbra layer use a Mageflare Rune every 3-4 digs down.
Hope this helps!
What about in hard mode?
So far no one who has shared their progress here or on our Discord has managed to reach Deepwater with Nix on hard mode, though it is possible someone has done it without posting about it.
Hey Scoot, I've been wondering for a while, what does Serenitrove mean?
does it mean a trove of serenity? Thanks!
Serenitrove is a mix of "serenity" and "treasure trove". It means it's a relaxing experience where you dig for treasures.
this game is acaully peak tho like what
This game is great to play in the office while work is slow!
Though I did manage to make it to the bottom with Reeler but I did not get a hat for him and now I feel bad for him being one without his own hat!
Thanks for playing! If Reeler reached the water but did not unlock his hat, that definitely shouldn't happen. I will take a look and see if something changed in the recent updates.
Edit: I ran a few tests with Reeler and his hat seems to be unlocking correctly on my end. If possible, could you share your save here so I can take a look?
Hii and thanks for the reply! Should I just post the export code? :)
Update: I tried it again and nothing received this time either! See my screenshot.
If I'm blind and have already received his hat, let me know x
You've already unlocked Reeler's Propeller Cap, you're missing Scoot's hat :)
Oh god I'm a pinecode! I thought the propeller hat was for Scoot! Thank you :D
You're welcome, and honestly, I should be thanking you. You made me realize the headgear unlocks needed some kind of hint system so players wouldn't have to guess which ones they were missing. That's now been implemented in the latest 1.1.8 update :)
SCOOT I'M BACK!!!!!
oml I haven't played this in so long it looks so good now!!!
wow... I haven't played since 1.0
Edit: wow you guys have a wiki now! so happy! :)))
Welcome back!
Thanks! A lot has changed since 1.0 especially with the 1.1 Farfields update. And yes we have a community wiki now :) Enjoy the new updates!
Is the water infinite or does it end and then the game continues?
The water is technically the end of the zone, and you're supposed to return to the surface once you hit water. The core gameplay loop is reaching the water with each turtle, unlocking new achievements and headgear, and then progressing into the Farfields zone.
how to obtain a furnace
You'll have to go slightly deeper to unlock it :)
i love gambling
What are the odds for the jackpot machine thingy?
I think it is rigged....
I love gambling
There's a 1 in 593 chance to hit the jackpot, with a pity system that gradually increases the odds the longer you spin without landing a jackpot. So realistically it's about 1 in 150-200 spins.
