Hello family and friends from the sunny and hot lands of... Russia???
Yes, it is HOT! We have been having a heat wave in Saratov right now and the temperatures are only climbimg. We have heard that it should mellow out in the next couple days and stay around 30 C which is pretty nice. We had a great week this week and just continue to love doing missioanry work.
We of course had some adventures this week while tracting-- including almost becoming brides to a nice armenian family with two sons but we'll save those kind of stories for after the mission...
We have a "progressing contact"-- someone we see often and talk to you but they haven't become our investigator yet, who we saw this week and gave us about 30 minutes of fashion advice. I was feeling pretty good about how I looked that day-- i mean I had straightened my hair, had on what I thought was a cute skirt and cute top and did my makeup, but I was wrong. She is a middle-aged mom who we talk to frequently and she is AWESOME! We love talking with her because she is just so open and easy to talk to. She immediately told me my skirt was terrible, my top was okay, my hair was better but my makeup was a nightmare and she wasn't even going to talk about my shoes (have to love the missionary comfort shoes). I just laughed and laughed and asked her what I should do with the makeup and what kind of clothes I needed-- she proceeded to tell me how to do my makeup etc. It was great. We then were able to talk to her a little about the Gospel and offer her a movie-- Together. We set up a time to meet next week to give her the movie about families and talk a little more about the Gospel-- I just hope I look a little better;) But we had a great time getting to know her and about ehr family. She is so interested why two young girls from America would leave everything and ome to Russia to walk the HOT streets. We were able to tell her why we had a DESIRE to come and share the GOSPEL with people and how we knew it was true.
We also had some great inactive visits this week. We can meet with inatives at 8:30 any night and so have been trying to find some to work with in our area that will let us come and do a spiritual thought with them and this week we found some! It was such a miracle. Both of the women we found from contacting and just running into them on the street. Both were not on our ward lists and we were so happy we found them. One of them made the comment this week that they felt like they had been lost, that no one knew about them etc. It was so great to meet with them, talk about the blessings of coming to church and invite them to come. One of our ladies came to church and really enjoyed it and we are so excited to keep working with her!!! So the Lord really does bless us and give us everything we need for success.
I love the Gospel and am so happy to still be here in Oktyakbrasky with these AMAZING members! I am excited for another week of missionaring and look forward to meeting more people this week and sharing the Gospel. Go share you testimony with someone and help someone feel the love of the Savior. I love you all!
I also have to give a big THANKYOU to President and Sister Bennett. I klnow that everyone says their mission president is the best and the love him etc. but I can say without a doubt that MY mission president is the best. I have loved being able to serve them and will be sad to see them go this week. They are an amazing example of dedicated service and especially of love. Their love for the Russian people and for missionary work is inspiring and has changed my life. They have helped me become a better person, have a stronger testimony and know who I am. I am so grateful for their unselfish service and their time they have spent here-- even when it means listening to missionaries like me "whine" (thankyou Elder Sly). We will miss them but I know that they will continue to serve and that Sister and President Sartori will also be amazing and wonderful and we are excited to get to know them!

Hidden Talents and a Big Fluffy Rabbit
Family and Friends!
Well first things first, "c dnome rojdenia tebe" or in English, HAPPY
BIRTHDAY SARA!!! YEA for Sisters. I'm almost certain that sitsers are
the best thing in the world and I want to tell everyone how much I
love my sister and how happy I am that it is her birthday! She is an
amazing example and an even better mom! I love to watch her with her
kids, she writes me every week and gives me inspiration and love, she
is a great wife, she knows how to cook like a pro, she is beautiful,
she is nice and funny, and I LOVE HER! Thanks Sara for being such a
great sister, for supporting me on my mission, and for being such an
incredible mom. You are doing a great work and I look up to you!
Well this week was good as usual. How can it not be when you live in
Saratov, Russia. Monday was filled with a HUGE hail strom and wind
storm after burning heat which was a lot of fun. Luckily it was P-day
so we were inside and just watched it all from our windows. Tuesday
was also really really HOT but hey, how can I complain, it's not -40.
Looking back on the week, I tihnk we can defintiely say that Friday
was a day of miracles! We had a lesson with an investigator at 7:30 in
the morning-- WHAT? And had a good talk about Faith and read from the
Alma with her about seeds. She gave us a HUGE bag of strawberries from
her Dacha and so it all just seemed so fitting. We also had a REALLY
successful night tracting. We were able to meet a great family and
talk with the mom for a long time and hopefully we will be able to
meet with them sometime this week. We found out that my "hidden
talent" (roommates-- I hope you're reading this) is talking to
Grandpa's. I can't figure it out but they seem to like me. So of
course we had some good discussions with a few grandpa's-- I think it
might be that i'm on their age level;) We also ran into an
investigator in the park and that was great. It was so fun to see her
adn we set up a lesson with her for this coming week.
We had an AMAZING lesson this week with one investigator about the
atonement and had some of our amazing members there to help us. We
were able to role-play the atonement story by Elder Packer about the
man who takes out a loan with a creditor and can't pay it and so his
friend helps him. We all had parts and so it was really great to do
the story and then discuss why it was so important and what it can
give us NOW. The atonement is such an intersting topic and I think as
every missionary can say, has become more and more intersting on my
mission. It is just something we will never be able to understand as
long as we study the Gospel but the more and more we know about it,
the more and more we see what a miracle, gift and blessing it is. It
was great to be able to talk to our investigator about it and our
members that were with us.
Sunday night is always a little hard because there is a little lack of
energy and focus (you know P-day is in like 3 hours and your'e TIRED
from the whole week of missionarying and Sunday is just always
stressful as a missionary). SO we decided to knock a podezd but had no
success. People were either not home or just didn't want to talk and
so we were feeling a little low. We walked through the park and
sitting on a bench was a... rabbit!? How can you not be curious. So I
stopped and said, "why do you have a rabbitt" and started talking with
the mom that was standing there. Well turns out that it is their pet,
they don't like cats and so they have a rabbitt, and it was AMAZING!
We talked to her for a really long time and we were able to share a
little about our church and give her a Finding Faith in Christ DVD
which she said they will watch as a family. She was in the park with
her two kids and so we had a great time talking to her and her kids.
They are a FUN family and she is fantastic. We had an interesting
discussion about moms. She is trained as a nurse type person and
finished schooling and even worked for a little bit in a hospital but
she decided that she needed to sit at home with her kids and raise
them. She doesn't work right now and she says sometimes it's hard
because people think she should work but she doesn't want to because
of her kids. I was able to share how my mom was such a good example
and also sat at home with us to take care of us and I tihnk it is a
HUGE sacrifice and harder work a lot of the time than going into the
office from 8-5. "Sitting at home" means you are always "at work" and
you are in charge of who your kids are. It is so important to raise
your kids and help them to develop in faith, Christlike attributes and
help them nurture their testimony. It is a great work and like I said
I am so proud of my sister and sister-in-law, cousins, aunts, grandmas
and mom who made that decision to put aside a career and take care of
their kids IT IS IMPORTANT. So it was a GREAT night and made Sunday
night go by really really fast. I also have to say that I petted the
rabbitt. I'm a little against animals, I don't love cats and dogs can
be OKAY but I don't go and pet them etc, but I decided I needed to pet
a rabbitt-- how can you not. I pet him and ended up sitting down with
him and peting him for like 15 minutes and feeding him Cheetos. It was
amazing. I loved him-- he may be my new favorite person in Russia
becasue he was so soft, calm and peaceful. I don't know what's really
happened to me but it was fun. Maybe cats will be next....????
(secretly I hope not). I guess we can that this week I found two
hidden talents, Grandpas and rabbitts-- how could life be better?
But all in all it was a good week.. We continue to be amazed by the
Lord's ability and willlingness to bless us and to help us out here as
missionaries. This is a great work and we need to do it. People truly
need the GOspel and the blessings it brings into their lives and their
families. I love you all and hope you have a great week. Continue to
see the Lord's hand and blesssings in your lives and go pet a
rabbitt-- I highly recommend it. I love you, the church is true.

Piroshki Polychili Pyatorichka! (Piroshki Received a 5!)
Family and Friends!
Well another week gone by in the mission field. I know that I say it every week but it is so weird to think that already another week is going by. With the warmer weather, the days seem to move a little faster and the weeks go even faster. It could also be that I've been on my mission longer and longer but who knows. This week was good and filled with AMAZING people and lots of fun!
P-day last week we got permission to go to REAL the WalMart of Russia and had a great time there! It was AMAZING to see a whole grocery store and have so many choices. I fortunately bought a new scarf and a new skirt so that was also fun.
Wednesday we had a great lesson with an investigator and were able to talk about the blessings of the temple. It was a fantastic lesson and fortunately the member that was with us has been through the temple and was able to explain why she loves going to the temple and what it means for her. The saints here in Russia make such great sacrifices to go the temple and I absolutely love to hear their testimonies about it. Our member is preparing to go to them temple in July and they save and save and take a week off of work to make the trip to FINLAND! She is an amazing example of dedication and service to the Lord. As members in the USA we have to make sure we are also making sacrifices to go to the temple and do the work that so desperately needs to be done. We should never take for granted the ease and luxury of going to the temple and try and do everything we can to be there more frequently. I LOVE THE TEMPLE and am so excited to be able to go when I get back. if you have the chance this week, GO to the temple. We are so blessed to have it in our lives and in the case of many people in the US within an hour driving time.
And now for the big news... UI had learned how to make piroshki or little fried rolls with potatoes in them from my companion Sister Stolyarova. She always made them for SIster Bennett when we had conference and since we had conference this week I knew that I had to "fill her shoes". I decided I would try and make some piroshki, although I had never done it by myself. But I tried and... they turned out really really good. After I had made them I thought I would take a few to our hazaika Valentina, so we took them to her house. About two minutes after we left she came knocking on our door. Gave me a huge hug and a kiss and said they were AMAZING. She gave me "5" (how they get graded in Russia on exams and things-- its the highest you can recieve) and told me that my future husband is going to be TOLSTI (fat). It was definitely a compliment to have a Russian Babushka, who has been eating piroshki her whole life, tell me mine were pretty good-- so it was a good day!:)
WE also had a great lesson with her this week and I was able to show her my family history and tell a few stories from that and invite her to fill out a chart for her family. She was really excited and so we are also excited to see how it turned out!
Conference was Friday and it was absolutely and totally wonderful!!! I absolutely loved it! We were able to talk a lot about the atonement and what it means for us and also have a testimony meeting. It was great to hear the testimony's of all of the Elder's serving here in Saratov. They are amazing and so strong for the work they are doing and how they are growing and maturing. I love the BENNETT's and am so sad to see them leave but I know our new president and his wife will also be great. They have done so much good work for this mission and for the church here and they are amazing. Their spirit and love has deeply blessed and touched my life and has made me a different person! I love them and will miss them but they too need to see their family, move on and start serving somewhere else. We all have a work to do, no matter where we are.
Well I have probably bored you all out of your minds-- this seems really long so I will wrap it up. Go to the temple, do some missionary work and remember how much the Lord loves you! i love you all! Thanks for the mail, support and prayers. The church is true!

Kiev = LOVE?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! To the best mom in world!!!! Who always writes me, loves me and prays for me! I wish for you money, love, and fun on your birthday!:)
HELLO from the balmly lands of... RUSSIA?
Who knew that Russia had warm weather but we are definitely enjoying it and LOVING the sun here! Whoever thinks that Russia is always cold is not right because the summers here are HOT and SUNNY! I am working on a sweet missionary tan with the good old sleeve look and closed toed shoes...mmmm....
Well missionary work in Russia is, as on missionary says, "ON FIRE!" This week was fantastic and we are so thankful for all of our blessings and our opportunity to be working here right now. I guess we'll just start first things first... KIEV!
We had a FANTASTIC visa trip to Kiev this week ( it is so much easier and shorter than the trip to Lithuania) and although I didn't ever actually leave the airport it was nice to ahve a little "vacation" from missionary work. We flew to Kiev Tuedsay morning and returned late that night but all in all it was really realy good and really fast! In the Moscow airport on the way there we ran into 2 missionaries returning home to Kiev who had been serving in the Ikaterinburg mission. They were really great to talk to and interesting. They had served faithfully and were excited to return home but just kept reminding us that as I said earlier, the missions in Russia are ON FIRE! The work here is going well and we are so exctied to be a part of it. We just have to keep working hard, praying in faith and having patience and the church will grow and grow and grow!!! IN the Kiev airport I met some fantastic babyshki (grandma's) from California. I was in the airport and didn't have a companion on the trip (against the rules--- probably--- I did have 6 Elder's to keep me company) so I decided to talk to someone. I walked around listening to see if anyone was speaking English and I found a cute group of Grandma's. They had been traveling aruond Russia and the Ukraine for a few weeks and were heading back home. It was fantastic! Of course their names were Ethel, Shirley ad Ann-- love it. It was really fun to talk to them (in English) and explain what I was doing in Russia etc. We had a great conversation and it was just great to meet some new people. They had heard of the church and so i am hoping that when they see missioanries in Sacramento California they will be more inclined to talk to them;)
We had some great lessons this week and met a lot of REALY REALLY great people! Sister Stolyarova and I had met a young girl on the street in FEBRUARY and have been trying to meet with her for... a few months... 3!!!!! I had almost given up hope but decided to call one more time and... she wanted to meet. We met in the beatufiul park adn she actually brought her friend who was also intersted. We were able to talk a lot about the importance of a living prophet and the blessings the Gospel brings into our lives. She is amazing and we are really looking forward to working with her more this week. Her friend was also great and they had so many good questions about prophets and the need for one today on the earth. We are so blessed to know that we have a prophet who guides us, gives us council and helps us to return to our Heavenly Father. It was such a miracle that we finally met with them and we absolutely loved being able to talk to them.
We also have made some friends with the peopel on the streets who are either selling KBAC the famous Russian drink or sunflower seeds or flowers. I love being able to talk to them as we contact and we have fallen in love with a really cute lady from Armenia here who is interested more and more in our church. We were abel to find a Book of Mormon in Armenian and share it with her and she says she has been reading it everyday. It is just another testimony to me that Heavenly Father has really prepared peopel EVERYWHERE to accept this Gospel and all we have to do is open our mouth! We also have to be patient, like with our new investigators. It just takes time sometimes to work with people. We can't always expect instant results. So overall it was a great week and we are really excited for another week of "missionarying". Our last conference with President and Sister Bennett will be on Thursday :( We are really sad that they are leaving in less thana month but it will be intersting to see what a new mission president brings. Go do missionary work! Invite your friends and neighbors to activities and family home evening and just OPEN YOUR MOUTH! Even if it's in the grocery store line, people are ready and need the Gospel! I love you all! Thanks so much for the letters and emails! They are truly amazing and important for missionaries. Have a fantastic week and know the church is true!
