McIlheran: It's Easy To Write With Blinders On

Simple question: Who are you going to believe, McIlheran (conservatives would never use swastikas!) or your lying eyes?

The answer to this simple question, and much more, can be found at folkbum's.

That's Responsible Journalism

First came local wingnut Kevin Fischer calling the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources the "Wisconsin wing of the Nazi Party"href> after the DNR took steps to protect a portion of the Wisconsin Dells - land and views that are in the public domain - from encroachment by a condominium development. Now comes Fischer's latest Nazi comparison, again at the expense of the DNR. In a recent blog entry, Fischer referred to the DNR as "Gestapo-like"href> due to their attempts to enforce regulations covering cranberry growers.

Now I know this kind of speech is protected under the First Amendment as well it should be, and I know this is just Fischer's attempt to stay relevant and bring eyeballs to his quaint little blog, but someone - maybe even his boss, State Senator Mary Lazich - ought to explain to him what's in good taste and what's not.

illyT has morehref> on the Fischer situation.

They're Just Writing To What They Know Best

Well, the title is how I would answer the question put forth by James Rowen:

Why Do Some Commentators Trivialize Nazis?

James goes on to tell us how everyone from Fischer to Wagner to Rush Into Limbo throws around the word so much that the horror that should be connected to that term has lost a lot of its potency. It is especially scary when one considers the adage about those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

The History Of The World By McIlheran

Our good friend Brawler has pointed out some of the fallacious thinking of Patrick McIlheran, who called Stalin and Hitler liberals. But as we all know, as mighty as the intellectual powers of Brawler are, he is but one man. And even someone as capable as the Brawler can't move a mountain of bull manure at one time. Sometimes it will take him two or three. And we all also know that only McBride, and maybe Sykes, can produce more manure than McIlheran.
So, the Brawler continues moving that mountain with his usual irrefutable, well-researched line of reasoning in this post. As an added bonus, he has pictures:

I'm just glad Brawler is on our side.

Jawohl, Frau Bucher

Frank Rich, a columnist at the New York Times, took things too far by using irresponsible rhetoric, comparing the Bush administration to the Nazi Gestapo. While Whallah is no fan of Bush, his administration, or any of his policies, such as torture, it would be more conducive to fight those issues on their own merits, without the hyperbole.

McBride, as did many others, took offense to the article. But it is not clear if it was due to the offensiveness of the article, or professional jealousy. Not only did she rightfully criticize the article, but she took it too far herself, by comparing those against Bush's administration to the Nazis. And let us not forget that it was Frau Bucher herself that compared Democrats to bin Laden, for which she has yet to apologize.
