Forget famous surrenders of the past and ready yourself…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:41 PM Permalink

…for the most shameful surrender in American history, a surrender I do not believe will leave the nation intact.

Congress, both bodies, have so humbled, abased, embarrassed, and taunted each other to the point that compromise is no longer possible. It's like when a younger sibling knows secret(s) about his elders that even the youngster recognizes that were he or she were to reveal those secrets, it would be so great a breach of trust that the family dynamics would change forever, it might take decades to be forgiven (if at all), and the youngster could face complete exile from the family. Most people will innately understand this.

But, in American politics, which USED to be a family united against the world for the good of all its citizens, there is no more family extant. Now it's republicans, who care for only money and power; democrats that try to do what's best for America but are so inept, inane, and such fools that they would ask an anaconda swallowing them whole it they could negotiate to keep their finger- and toenail clippings or, in other words, democrats are so fucking stupid they would rather sacrifice their children to gain the most minute and inconsequential advantage. Independents that caucus with democrats must bear witness to the slow, agonizing death of America. And teabagging-gop-ers would rather just ostracize or execute democrats and independents.

All these political parties have abandoned rank-and-file American citizens and seeks nothing other than complete domination of the country. Each of them have violated their oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and domestic and each seeks nothing for Americans but a rough time and a hard row to hoe.

None of these parties has done anything to uplift the lives of the ill, the poor, the unemployed, the hungary, and those who must choose between a fresh can of cat food for dinner or a half tablet of vitally needed medicine.

They all posture, preen for the cameras (I can already see Beohner, speaker elect, licking his palms and smoothing back his hair so he looks good on the TV), try to come up with the most clever or outright vicious comment to make about those of a different party as they step over one of the two or three hundred thousand homeless veterans, most of whom are suffering a myriad of illnesses from repeated tours of duty in an illegal war entered to feed the ego of whom? gwb and the lying ass republicans who aided and assisted in getting us into both illegal wars.

And don't give me any horse excrement about Afghanistan being a "good" and "just" war. It cannot be just to kill and maim thousands in an attack on a nation that just happened to have a terrorist residing there. If that were so America needs to surrender to itself as all nineteen terrorists were last known to be on American soil.

It's over, folks. We had a good run right up until republicans elected a deity, Ronnie Raygun, former actor, former governor, and trader of arms to terrorists to obtain release of the hostages in Iran. And don't write me any crap about, "Reagan never did that!" It's hard to deny the crime when its perpetrator confessed on national television, isn't it?

The history of American Presidents over the last 60 years:

34th President, Republican Dwight David Eisenhower, served 1953-1961, best remembered by me for America's formerly greatest interstate highway system and infrastructure ever seen in the world and warning about the 'military-industrial complex' danger facing America.

35th President, Democratic John Kennedy, War Hero, inspired a nation and paid for it with his life, Nov. 22, 1963. I was on the third grade flag team; I cried the entire time I lowered, then raised to the top and lowered the flag to half-staff when he was murdered.

36th President, Democrat, Lyndon Baines Johnson, sacrificed any future political activities after assuming the office of the murdered Pres. Kennedy in order to get the Civil Rights Act passed. "If nominated I will not accept, if elected I will not serve."

37th President, Republican Richard Milhouse Nixon, the most famous crook ever elected, brought immeasurable shame to America with the Watergate Scandal, his plumber squad, his illegal taping, and his real feelings that, "If the president does it it's not illegal."

38th President, Gerald Ford, typical republican, pardoned almost all of the crooks in the Nixon presidency.

39th President, Jimmy Carter, worst complaint, "He's so boring!" Kept the nation at peace and living within its means, left office with $600,000.00 cash in the treasury.

40th President, Ronald Wilson Reagan, bargainer with terrorists, armed Iran against Hussein's Iraq, sent aid, weapons and training to Osama bin Laden to help fight against the Russians in Afghanistan.

41st President, George Herbert Walker Bush, family made millions partnering up with the Senior bin Laden, Osama's Dad, but was too bland to re-elect.

42nd President, William Jefferson Clinton, besides his legendary predilection for illicit sex it at least kept him too busy to spend money, left office with hugh surpluses - just like the last democratic president. Strange, huh?

43rd President, George Walker Bush, Nixon on steroids, a crook, a liar, a usurper of the Constitution, warmonger, would be dictator, bankrupted the country. Did I forget anything?

44th President, Barack Hussein Obama, political coward with just enough charisma to get elected, but lacking the guts to stand up for America and Americans, backs down from every fight, and has the smallest cojones I've ever heard of for a Harvard educated attorney. He is the only democrat on this list with no major accomplishments (other than getting elected), he is surrendering democratic American dominance in politics to men far less intelligent than he, AND IT SUCKS A BIG ROOT!

And finally, please note that with the exceptions of Eisenhower and too-bland-to-be-real Bush the Elder, every other republican president has engaged in blatantly illegal acts in contravention of American Law and Treaties, while every democrat serving over the last 60 years may have been boring, may have had dalliances they shouldn't, but they knew how to govern for all, even the least of us, they were not war criminals, looters of weaker nations, they didn't deplete and almost destroy our armed forces.

AND PEOPLE DON'T SEE THIS? FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE!

4,719° it was yesterday in California, and even though my thermometer lied to me shamelessly…

…and did its digital best to convince me that it was only 110º inside the house, I've lived in the deserts of America before and I know heat when I feel it. Besides, when all five dogs have collapsed in various positions of repose on the cool, cool tile of our kitchen floor, reclining beneath the cyclonic winds created by four electric, count 'em, four commercial grade electric fans, it's either become too hot for any kind of activity other than seeking respite from the heat or the dogs are again pulling impractical jokes on me to try and amuse me so that the stress of this superheated air as it peels the skin from my body doesn't feel quite so bad and/or without some modicum of appreciation for their efforts to take my mind off my plight.

This is why I'm not sure how apt is Obama's claim that the gop talks about him like a dog to the cheers, jeers, and screams of whatever crowd he happens to be addressing. I wish he would stop bringing disrepute upon dogs which, thousands of years ago took one look at man and thought, "Oh, shit. Those assholes won't last a century without our help. Look how pitiful and pitiable they are! They can't see in the dark, they couldn't outrun a fat bear heading to hibernate, their hearing is atrocious and utterly lame - can't even hear all those fat, well fed field mice right beneath their feet! - and though they themselves smell awful their sense of smell is so bad they don't realize their social gaffe and discomfort this causes others, indeed, making them prey for larger beasts, and every time they try to growl, act threateningly, waving their spears about and shouting unintelligibly, somewhere a large predator dies laughing. Besides, we'll work cheap, for whatever scraps of meat they want to give us remaining from the hugh beasts we help them kill for food, a place by the fire, an appellation by which we shall be known among our peers, a scratch behind the ears, and once in a while a full-body massage. Why I predict that one day Man, as he is known, will so come to appreciate us that they will allow us indoors, a special place by the fire, and food we don't even have to hunt! I know, I know, but as unlikely as this sounds I do believe it is time to hook our rising star to that of Man, laugh all you want you frickin' hyenas!"

And how do we honor an animal this noble, by citing them as a cause for derision and contempt. Puh-lease! If the gop, republicans, conservatives, religious right, neocons, party of no, teabaggers or whatever they want to reinvent themselves to be and to be called today consulted their dogs they would learn what a bunch of pussy…cats they really are.

Think about it. Dogs come in all sorts of recognized categories: hunting and sport dogs, companion dogs, working dogs, etc., etc., etc., but cats? Long hair, short hair, and no hair. Just like the gop, all flash and pomp and not a working bone or brain in their body, 'cept for that portion of the lizard-like, primal primitive brain that controls the autonomic systems of most people (you know, important stuff like breathing, eye-blinking, beating heart, fight or flight responses), but that seems to have, in republicans, devolved to the point where, incapable of honesty, empathy, and the usual survival instincts that no longer function normally and instead allow only the pursing of their lips and the uttering of a single monosyllabic response to everything: no.

These are the people who would depose President Obama and return us to those idyllic days of illegal and unnecessary wars, the slaughtering of millions and displacement of millions more in their continuing efforts to more efficiently run and manage genocides, once again doubling the size of government and completely blowing out any possibility of ever having a balanced budget, healthy citizens, informed discourse, an adherence to our Constitution which the gop has many times taken an oath to preserve and protect and defend against all enemies foreign and domestic and then gone way out of their way to denigrate the document, call for judges to strictly enforce its provisions, except where it comes to all those provisions providing for the life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that annoy the gop because they empower mere citizens and constituents and endow them with the unalienable rights granted them by THEIR maker, and not the maker, the christian god, the gop desires.

Oh! And pity the poor press! Those poor asses have the unenviable task of trying to portray the country as ready to lynch Obama and return to the good old days of gwb. The republicans are always so ready to point out endlessly that polls are "…merely a picture of how people feel at this moment of time and not accurate in the long term," when the polls are running against them but that polls are infallible predictions of the future when they are running with them. Of course, that is one area where they shine, talking out of both sides of their mouths at the same time, without using their brains and sometimes without even moving their lips! Amazing!

Look! Up in the sky! It's an endangered bird falling dead from pollution! It's an utterly unnecessary and monstrously expensive war plane! No! It's the gop! Able to allow tall buildings to be downed by terrorist-manned aircraft! Spend money faster than a speeding bullet train! More powerful smelling than an aromatic votive! Yes, born on another as yet unidentified planet destroyed by their own folly they have now arrived on earth to repeat their dismal performance, just as on the last planet they blew up with newly designed weapons no one needed anyway!

Whew! I told you the heat does funny things to me, and the heat of yesterday still has its grasp on whatever is left of my enfeebled mind today. I feel like Wimpy from the old Popeye cartoons, "I'll gladly repay you with some literacy Tuesday for some relief from the heat today!"

Ciao, bella ami.

The MSM (sure to be followed by every rightwing, lunatic fringe, mouth-breathing republican or teaparty member)…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 11:32 AM Permalink

…is breathlessly reporting that there may be scurrilous action afoot in that Joe Sestak of Pennsylvania was offered a job in the current administration by the dreaded and despised Bill Clinton in order to discourage Sestak from running for Arlen Spector's senatorial seat.

This strikes me as hilariously funny as I always assumed it was common knowledge that political parties have always sought to have their favorite son or daughter on the ballot and that they often offer any opposing candidate a position elsewhere in the party or with any of the large number of "think tanks" maintained by the political parties for just such a purpose. 'Specially the 'pub-lie-cans, a party with so many conservative think tanks that you might believe that the solution for all the worlds problems is imminent.

Of course though it would be bad form for the 'pub-lie-cans to allow any election to pass without trying to besmirch the reputation of the president or the intent of the democratic party, as well as taking another cheap shot at that most reviled-on-the-right former president Bill Clinton. It's doubly ridiculous when you stop to consider that the worst president and most despised former world leader, former presidential officeholder gwb, has been appearing in commercial pleas for help to gain donations to provide relief to earthquake victims in Haiti or tsunami victims a couple of years ago, with Bill Clinton in a desperate attempt to associate himself with one of America's great presidents [my opinion] to try and rehabilitate his (gwb) image by appearing to be a humanitarian and not the worlds worst torturer, starter of wars of aggression for oil, war criminal supreme, once considered the world's greatest threat to peace, and the number one terrorist of all. Even gwb's daddy appeared with sonny boy and that ne'er-do-well and reckless premature eja…well, you know what I mean…Bill Clinton in order to sanitize gwb's reputation.

So, to recap: it is now either a crime or despicable illegal or unethical act to offer a job to a potential candidate to discourage that candidate from running for a particular office, especially an unpaid position within an administration as we all know how tempting a non-paying job is and how men (or women) will sell their souls to the devil and be absolutely corrupted beyond any hope of redemption for even having heard of such an offer, much less having the non-paying job actually offered.

See:
Utah Republican Sen. Bennett, rejected by party, considering running as a write-in candidate

Sen. Bob Bennett said on Tuesday he's still considering running for a fourth term as a write-in candidate even as Republican leaders publicly discouraged him from doing so.

Bennett failed to win enough delegates at the Utah GOP convention on Saturday to advance to the state's primary election. Conservatives and "tea party" activists rejected his bid. He said Tuesday that some of his Senate colleagues privately have encouraged him to run as a write-in, but he declined to identify them.
'Pub-lie-cans are too cheap to even offer a non-paying job, but IOKIYAR to discourage candidates from running.

A perfect example of why America will never again be…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 1:32 PM Permalink

…considered a friend, ally, a country to be respected or emulated, a defender of the oppressed, or a country of compassionate, kind people striving to improve both America and the world.

See this article from the NYT:
Four people, including a wife of the Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud, were killed Wednesday by what local residents said was a missile strike from an American drone.

The missile struck a house in the remote Zanghra village in South Waziristan about 1 a.m. Wednesday. Local residents reached by telephone confirmed that one of the wives of Mr. Mehsud, the leader of Tehrek-e-Taliban Pakistan, was among those killed. Her name or age could not be confirmed.

Five others, including four children, were reportedly wounded in the missile strike.…

Publicly, Pakistani officials condemn the drone strikes, saying they result in anger and resentment against the United States.
Geez, ya think? Once again, instead of having the military capture or kill the single person whom they are hunting, America has chosen to use the blunt and indiscriminate weapon of a precision guided missile fired from an unmanned aerial drone, which is certain to unleash a justifiable rage and continuing hatred of Americans and the supposedly 'good' intentions of a supposedly honorable country.

To the primitive tribesmen of these desolate areas this simply demonstrates and confirms beyond doubt that America will freely commit war crimes, cross borders at will, and use weapons of mass destruction to slaughter totally innocent women and children while attempting to kill a single man. Oh, what cowards have we become? How can anyone reasonably believe that America is a good nation, composed of people of good will, when America continues to kill and kill and kill anyone who, not guilty of any crime, just happens to suffer the misfortune to be in the area where a suspected terrorist is 'thought' to be?

America, thanks to bush/cheney policies and the continuation of those illegal policies by the Obama administration, demonstrate to any thinking and compassionate person that America is no better, fairer, or concerned with the welfare of its own people than any of the 'evil empires' about which so much has been said. We are becoming a nation of cowards committing one illegal act after another and, morally speaking, no better than the 'terrorists' we claim to be fighting.

Terrorism has won, America has lost sight of every single bit of honor we formerly possessed and we have become no better, and in many ways, worse than those whom we pursue so recklessly and immorally. Indiscriminate killing is murder, and nothing good will ever come from murdering innocent women, children, and the ill and infirm. Especially using a coward's way of killing by using bombs incapable of discerning who is innocent or not.

Headline: Dallas police cut extra protection at George W. Bush's home…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 10:59 AM Permalink

…which leads me to ask, "Why the fook are we paying millions for extra security for multimillionaire former president bush's security? Especially since bush buried this country in debt from unnecessary wars of choice (a universally recognized war crime, making bush a war criminal not yet indicted), insanely reckless borrowing-and-spending, dumping regulations now causing our imminent bankruptcy, expanding the size of government virtually exponentially and who, being a multimillionaire, can afford to pay for his own protection?

See this article wherein it is reported that the city of Dallas is being forced to reduce their end of bushy's security detail for economic reasons:
The Dallas Police Department has cut back on some of the additional protection that the department provided around the Preston Hollow home of former President George W. Bush.

In addition to the usual Secret Service protection, Dallas until last week had stationed one on-duty tactical officer per eight-hour shift on the street outside the president’s home. The estimated cost of that service was $300,000 for about a year, according to police officials who asked that they not be named.

“We just had to cut it,” said one police official, who agreed to speak on the condition on anonymity. “We’re about to layoff people.”

But Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle, who declined to discuss specific changes said, “Our decision on how to deploy people around security issues like this is not dependent on the budget. They’re based on other factors.”…

In early January, police department officials had said that the tab to provide crowd and traffic control at the new Preston Hollow home of former President Bush could reach $1 million a year. The $1 million figure was based on the cost of providing at least two officers per 8-hour shift on a 24-hour basis for one year.
Again I ask, what the hell are we doing paying for the security of millionaires perfectly capable of providing their own security? Hell, I'd even cut off protection by the Secret Service and recommend to bushy that he have Blackwater and others he paid millions in 'no-bid' contracts to take over his security, for free given how many millions they made in Iraq.

It also strikes me as hysterically funny that bush apparently just couldn't wait to abandon his false persona as a 'man of the land, a rancher' and return to being the city slicker he always was. The entire world now knows that bush is afraid of horses so I speculated all along that it was Laura who enjoyed riding horses around the ranch, dodging the obvious piles of equine excrement left behind by bush.

Someone To Watch Over Me

posted by The Sailor @ 11:38 AM Permalink

The Washington Post fired Dan Froomkin, one of the few journalist/columnist writers that wasn't a stenographer for the government. Here are portions of his last column, but I urge you to follow the link and read all of it:
White House Watched

Today's column is my last for The Washington Post.
[...]
I started my column in January 2004, and one dominant theme quickly emerged: That George W. Bush was truly the proverbial emperor with no clothes. In the days and weeks after the 9/11 terror attacks, the nation, including the media, vested him with abilities he didn't have and credibility he didn't deserve. As it happens, it was on the day of my very first column that we also got the first insider look at the Bush White House, via Ron Suskind's book, The Price of Loyalty. In it, former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill described a disengaged president "like a blind man in a room full of deaf people", encircled by "a Praetorian guard,” intently looking for a way to overthrow Saddam Hussein long before 9/11. The ensuing five years and 1,088 columns really just fleshed out that portrait, describing a president who was oblivious, embubbled and untrustworthy.

When I look back on the Bush years, I think of the lies. There were so many. Lies about the war and lies to cover up the lies about the war. Lies about torture and surveillance. Lies about Valerie Plame. Vice President Dick Cheney's lies, criminally prosecutable but for his chief of staff Scooter Libby's lies. I also think about the extraordinary and fundamentally cancerous expansion of executive power that led to violations of our laws and our principles.
I don't understand why the WaPo would fire one of their few employees who got it right. But wherever Dan ends up writing next, I'll be reading.

US 'deeply' regrets Afghan deaths…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 2:39 PM Permalink

Washington "deeply, deeply" regrets the death of Afghan civilians killed by an air strike, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said.

Red Cross officials believe dozens of civilians including women and children died in the strike which targeted Taleban fighters in Farah Province.

The civilians are said to have been sheltering from fighting at the time.

Mrs Clinton was speaking alongside the Afghan and Pakistani presidents who are in Washington to meet Barack Obama.

She said there would be a joint investigation into the deaths.…

A Red Cross spokeswoman said they were investigating the deaths.
Hey! I've got a great idea! Why don't we just stop the indiscriminate bombing that kills dozens of innocent people while we're trying to get one man or a small group of men?

Is our military so depleted from the bush-cheney years that our troops no longer have the ability to fight eyeball-to-eyeball with positively identified enemies (usually the ones that are actually firing at you) and now HAVE to resort to killing by 500-2,000 pound bombs unable to discriminate between men with guns and innocent women, children, and sleeping babies?

America will never be able to wash away the bloodstains of the hundreds of thousands of innocents we have slain.

So there goes the fiction of Green Berets, Navy Seals, Marine Recons, etc. quietly sneaking into a country, killing their target, and then beating a hasty retreat. Was that ever reality or just a darn good movie plot?

"Stop hoggin ' all the blankets, Madoff!"…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 1:32 PM Permalink

…are words that may be spoken by many bush cronies (although they would probably be incarcerated in Spain or somethin')

From the LAT in an editorial:
The Obama administration has deleted the term "global war on terror" from the government lexicon but is finding it more difficult to wipe the slate on some of the dark activities that rhetoric was used to justify. Since his election, President Obama has said he would prefer to look forward instead of backward at charges that the Bush administration used illegal detention and torture to prosecute its campaign against terrorism. That's an understandable political impulse, but it may prove difficult to sustain.

A Spanish court has opened criminal proceedings against six senior Bush administration officials accused of providing the legal framework to allow the torture of prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, among them former Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales, former chief of staff to the vice president David S. Addington and John C. Yoo, a former Justice Department lawyer who is now a UC Berkeley law professor. Several factors make this case likely to move forward, including that it is being handled by Judge Baltasar Garzon, a human rights crusader who issued the arrest warrant that led to Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet's detention in London in 1998. Furthermore, it centers on five citizens or legal residents of Spain, giving that country a specific claim to jurisdiction.…

The Spanish case comes on the heels of a British investigation into whether an MI5 security official colluded with American agents to torture Binyam Mohamed, a British resident held at Guantanamo. The two cases reflect a growing international determination to find outwhether the Bush administration abandoned the rule of law in pursuit of terrorists. We too want to know.

As he meets with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero in Madrid on Sunday, Obama might want to point out that this country's legal processes are at work. The Justice Department has launched an inquiry into whether CIA officials committed criminal acts in destroying tapes of the interrogations of two Al Qaeda prisoners. Last month, the Senate Intelligence Committee opened an investigation of CIA detention and interrogation policies under the Bush administration.
Maybe another republican traitor will bake cakes with files inside for these bastids.

…[lyric from song which title I can't remember. Bill]

These traitorous republicans are just killing me with laughter every day and in every way by the way they ceaselessly harp about Obama, "Taking on too much at one time. He should find one issue and stay with it until it's resolved." These treacherous fools may have gotten used to a half-wit president unable to put together whole sentences (without them being written down for him), whose main function was allowing his cronies to loot our treasury, start idiotic wars, allowing the worst attack ever on American soil by failing to heed warnings (911 is a republican traitor thing dontchaknow?), and who could not chew gum and walk, or even think, at the same time. He always had that, "…deer in the headlights," look about him at every public appearance.

I may not agree with his every policy, but no one can accuse Obama of not being the hardest working, multitasking, intelligent, charismatic president in a long time, and certainly a marvelous orator, whether reading from a teleprompter, or speaking contemporaneously. His ability to take on many problems at once is just what America needs after the innumerable problems left behind by the traitorous republicans and their automaton puppet controlled by the Big Dick. Cheney, that is.

But it is kinda fun to watch the republicans bail water into their boat, sinking it further and further into the slime pit of their own creation. Watching the republican talking heads knocking Obama for taking on too much is rich irony, considering their party bankrupted the country, ruined almost any chance for peace in the Middle East, broke the formerly most powerful military in the world, and made us the laughingstock and least respected country on the planet. Though, I do think Somalia and one other country were lower on the evolutionary scale than the bush bastardization of America, but as a consolation prize the world did name gw bush the world's most active terrorist and tarnishing the "American Brand" of democracy.

It's so much fun watching traitorous scum like republicans dump their old, eat their young, and sink further into the mire.

Hey! That's multitasking!

Ain't it weird that when interviewing "pundits" from differing school of thought…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 1:29 PM Permalink

…the Democratic representative almost always calls for unity of our country and offers several useful ideas about how things may be done with only a tiny bit of cooperation not the current Senate Republican policy of constant obstruction offered by Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority leader.

I am sure that Senator McConnell would hold a filibuster and stall any medical help that would be of direct help to his relatives, even if it were his own mother, if it was proposed or written by the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Senate will find a way around McConnell eventually as the RNC comes to realize with ever greater acuity that their very jobs count on helping the Democratic Party to pass much needed legislation and reforms.

I have always said the Republicans and their "yoyo" policies will insure the demise of the RNC (and possible America for good measure).

And for anyone not familiar with the "yoyo" policy it means this: The RNC has no inclination to help the unemployed (Let 'em go get a job!), the help needed by the infirm poor (Let them eat cake!), creation of universal medical care (Let 'em pay their own way, I've got mine!), and that if you were lying by the roadside, on fire, they could not be bothered to stop and p*ss on your face to put it out (Let him call the fire department with his cell phone). Hence the "you are on your own", yoyo, policies are so divisive and destructive

Ah, yes! Being a Republican while the country crumbles to insignificance around them, while they sip their champaign at a donor sponsored luncheon, where the RNC snatches up tens of thousands in monetary donations in their own self-interest while the rest of the country can go to hell.

I'm sick unto death with these RNC policies that have led directly to the demise of America as we used to know it.

Where does it stop? When will legislative become more than a card to be won at all costs, including burning any/all of the good cards in the deck you don't like?

Another amazing medical breakthrough as U.S. performs first face transplant…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:22 PM Permalink

…from the headlines of the Washington Post.com:
Cleveland Clinic Performs First U.S. Face Transplant
As reported by the doctors there, led by surgeon Herr Doctor Mastercutter, the surgery was complicated, difficult, and not something that the team would necessarily undertake again as it was fraught with danger at every stage of the operation.

"It was difficult enough just to get the patient isolated without the world discovering his true identify as, in this case, the patient also happened to be a high-ranking government official who insisted upon absolute anonymity," said Herr Doctor.

And although the surgical procedure itself is not now new and ground-breaking as in previous cases, the introduction of dozens of security personnel into the operating theater caused all sorts of problems never before dealt with, such as the sterilization of the security staff and making available the attire necessary to enable that staff to remain in a position to constantly maintain security over the patient.

Each doctor and nurse involved were carefully vetted to insure that they posed no threat to the patient while the patient was under the influence of the powerful drugs that allowed the patient to feel no pain but remain conscious enough the keep the surgeon advised as to whether he was in pain or not.

"It was a grueling surgery, one such as I had never undertaken before and one I am ever likely to attempt again, but the surgery was, thankfully, 100% successful," continued the Her Doctor, " and I can now safely report the success we have enjoyed with replacing a face not out of medical need, but to forever conceal the identity of the operations recipient."

When posed with the query as to who would be willing to undergo such complicated surgery for a mere change of identity, Herr Doctor Mastercutter went completely off the record so that he could anonymously confirm, "…[T]hat it is completely confirmed that Dick Cheney has now been transformed into George W. Bush."

Updated headline: "The Last Throws ... "*

posted by The Sailor @ 12:57 PM Permalink

*I totally stole this headline from WTF!?'s Undeniable Liberal. It was so much better & appropriate than mine:
Iraqi reporter throws shoes at Bush, calls him dog

An Iraqi reporter called visiting U.S. President George W. Bush a "dog" in Arabic on Sunday and threw his shoes at him during a news conference in Baghdad.

Iraqi security officers and U.S. secret service agents leapt at the man and dragged him struggling and screaming out of the room where Bush was giving a news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
[...]
When asked about the incident shortly after, Bush made light of it. "I didn't feel the least threatened by it," he said.

Other Iraqi journalists apologised on behalf of their colleague, a television journalist.
Of course he didn't feel threatened, his translator said he called him 'Dawg!'

Oh, and BTW, the "Other Iraqi journalists apologised on behalf of their colleague" statement? Yeah, not so much:
Iraq rally for Bush shoe attacker

Thousands of Iraqis have demanded the release of a local TV reporter who threw his shoes at US President George W Bush at a Baghdad news conference.

Crowds gathered in Baghdad's Sadr City district, calling for "hero" Muntadar al-Zaidi to be freed from custody.
I bet all the sole-less folks on the reichwing will have their tongues flapping about this heel.

Bush Arrives in Iraq for a Final Visit

Question: Can they keep him? Can we PAY them to keep him? They can have him for the low, low cost of just $700 billion.

Welcome to the United Socialist States of America…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:47 PM Permalink

…It took a long time for us to get here. Just think, what if - horrors! - Fearful Leader gw bush hadn't been elected and hadn't been able to destroy a 228 year-old democracy where people actually had individual freedoms in just under 8 short years!

All hail Fearful Leader!

And now the single greatest theft of money from a formerly free state is almost complete. Commandant Paulson has already raided the Treasury (will it still be called a "treasury" when it no longer contains any treasure?) to give away 630 billion dollars to aid Fearful Leader's allies. The Socialist Senate voted to give away another 700 billion to bail out billionaires who are unable to manage their money and created this mess (that's 700B we know of! Who knows how many monetary time bombs are planted within those 420 pages of legislation?) The Socialist House will no doubt pack even more pork into the Senate bill.

All hail Fearful Leader! Long live Fearless Leader!

By my count that's a whoppin' 1.33 TRILLION DOLLARS already and Fearful Leaders pledges to steal spend more billions for every day we peasants fail to meet his demands.

All hail Fearful Leader! Long live Fearless Leader! All kiss the a$$ ring of Fearful Leader!

Do not listen to those several hundred highly respected nay-sayer economists who tells us that this plan of Fearful Leader will not work and is doomed to failure! How could they possibly know or appreciate the Machiavellian machinations of a Fearful Leader who truly believed he could conquer Iraq easily and steal their oil resources for Big Oil for the low, low cost of several hundred thousand deaths, several hundred billion dollars, the displacement of millions of innocent civilians, and the destruction of the finest fighting force ever seen on this planet?

All hail Fearful Leader! Long live Fearless Leader! All kiss the a$$ ring of Fearful Leader! May Fearful leader be known as a god among mere mortals!

And all Fearful Leader's billionaire buddies are helping by selling off stocks at a rate of speed, and in such large amounts, so as to create panic among the masses, knowing all the while (Wink! Wink!) that they will be able buy them back with the taxpayer money being stolen from right under our noses! Why its a win win situation for every billionaire who plays the game; the profits will be well nigh to much to be counted!

All hail Fearful Leader! Long live Fearless Leader! All kiss the a$$ ring of Fearful Leader! May Fearful leader be known as a god among mere mortals! All hail the passing of the Bush Billionaire Bailout Bill brought to us by Fearful Leader!

I am curious, however, and will probably be summarily executed for daring to ask, but has anyone bothered to check our gold reserves? Aren't we supposed to have several hundred trillions of dollars worth of gold stashed away for a rainy day? Or has that ALREADY quietly been spirited away by billionaires pretending to be Alexander Mundy of It Takes a Thief fame?

All hail Fearful Leader! Long live Fearless Leader! All kiss the a$$ ring of Fearful Leader! May Fearful leader be known as a god among mere mortals! All hail the passing of the Bush Billionaire Bailout Bill brought to us by Fearful Leader! Let no man dare ask of Fearful Leader where our trillions of gold have gone!

You will all be tattooed with a bar code and have a GPS tracking device inserted under your skin very soon, giving us all reason to be confident that the new Socialist government has absolute control of where you may go, to whom you speak, write, e-mail, telephone, monitor your movements with powerful spy satellites, and be able to monitor every form of communications known or unknown to man. Freedom will be a passing, misguided form of ancient governments and soon forgotten.

All hail Fearful Leader's wisdom in taking away freedom and maintaining absolute control of the masses!

All hail the creation of the United Socialist States of America!

"Afghanistan is doomed," according to…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:42 PM Permalink

…at least one world leader and several ambassadors.

From the Timesonline:
The official version of the US-led campaign in Afghanistan received a blow today with a leaked report that the British Ambassador in Kabul believes that US strategy is wrong and the war is as good as lost.

The potentially explosive views were published by Le Canard Enchaîné, a respected French weekly, which said that they were direct quotations from a diplomatic cable written by François Fitou, the French Deputy Ambassador in Kabul.

Mr Fitou reported to President Sarkozy's office and his own Foreign Ministry that Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, the British Ambassador, believed that "American strategy is destined to fail" in Afghanistan, according to the newspaper.[…]

“The current situation is bad. The security situation is getting worse. So is corruption and the Government has lost all trust. Our public statements should not delude us over the fact that the insurrection, while incapable of winning a military victory, nevertheless has the capacity to make life increasingly difficult, including in the capital.

“The presence — especially the military presence — of the coalition is part of the problem, not the solution. The foreign forces are ensuring the survival of a regime which would collapse without them. In doing so, they are slowing down and complicating an eventual exit from the crisis (which, moreover, will probably be dramatic)."
Move along! Move along! Nothing to see here but yet another bush failure from incompetence!

Huh? The Great Treasury Heist of 2008…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:16 PM Permalink

…is about to happen and nobody seems to care to consider all the angles.

From the HuffPo comes this excerpt from an article titled, "Fed Pumps Further $630 Billion Into Financial System":
The Federal Reserve will [actually already did. Bill] pump an additional $630 billion into the global financial system, flooding banks with cash to alleviate the worst banking crisis since the Great Depression.

The Fed increased its existing currency swaps with foreign central banks by $330 billion to $620 billion to make more dollars available worldwide. […]

The Fed's expansion of liquidity, the biggest since credit markets seized up last year, came hours before the U.S. House of Representatives rejected a $700 billion bailout for the financial industry.
If they had $630 billion dollars to shore up foreign banks prior to the vote that failed in the House last week, why the hell wasn't that money pumped into to American Banks and financial sectors?

So Congress and the Senate are now snake oil salesmen for the government: Step right on up! Grab all the cash you need! It walks! It talks! It rolls on its belly like a reptile! Come one! Come all! No admission fees required or asked! Not a nickel! Not a Dime! Not a single quarter! Come on down and pick up the billions of dollars you neither earned nor deserved!

Give me a f*ckin' break.

A great paraphrased quote from todays NYT Editorial…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 2:58 PM Permalink

…which, while speaking of Mr. Musharraf makes this statement, one just as easily appropriate to bushco and our elections:
The first challenge is to choose a new civilian president, free from any taint of corruption or complicity with past dictatorships. The presidency must also be stripped of the special dictatorial powers that [Mr. bush] seized for himself, including the power to suspend civil liberties and rule by decree.
Amazingly prescient. And sad that an American President has so much in common with despots.

Another headline shaming America is found on…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:25 PM Permalink

The Huffington Post this morning:
BUSH TO CONDEMN CHINA POLICIES BEFORE OLYMPIC ARRIVAL
Before he goes to the Olympics he will condemn their policies on human rights?

Why not before, while he's there, after he leaves, and every chance he gets?

Because the world would be relentlessly laughing at gw bush for having the audacity to speak about human rights after the genocide he ordered to be carried out to systematically gain control of all that Iraqi oil and doing everything possible to suppress the rights we American formerly enjoyed in a free society by doing his best to see that we are no longer going to have a free society?

I guess once you get that kind of reputation it's kind of hard to speak about human rights with any authority.

The shame of this phony bush game should be called by its real name…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:03 PM Permalink

…BULL$HIT.

From Bob Herbert's NYT column today:
“After reviewing 517 of the Guantánamo detainees’ cases in depth,” [Jane Mayer of The New Yorker] said, “they concluded that only 8 percent were alleged to have associated with Al Qaeda. Fifty-five percent were not alleged to have engaged in any hostile act against the United States at all, and the remainder were charged with dubious wrongdoing, including having tried to flee U.S. bombs. The overwhelming majority — all but 5 percent — had been captured by non-U.S. players, many of whom were bounty hunters.”
We have war criminals running this country that beg prosecution and prison or execution.
The U.S. shamed itself on George W. Bush’s and Dick Cheney’s watch, and David Addington and others like him were willing to manipulate the law like Silly Putty to give them the legal cover they desired. Ms. Mayer noted that Arthur Schlesinger Jr., the late historian, believed that “the Bush administration’s extralegal counterterrorism program presented the most dramatic, sustained and radical challenge to the rule of law in American history.”
This simply takes my breath away.

This column today should be required reading for every citizen, please click on that link and do so.
