Media fall for climate hoax

So much for those layers of editors and fact checkers.

Here's yet another example of The New York Times and The Washington Post copy and pasting a story without checking it.

"In a story posted Monday morning, Reuters declared: “The Chamber of Commerce said on Monday it will no longer opposes climate change legislation, but wants the bill to include a carbon tax.”

Reuters updated the story to acknowledge the hoax, but it was too late: The Washington Post and the New York Times had already posted the fake story on their Web sites. "

U.S Senate denies funds for poverty group

That's how al Reuters sees it. But hey, wait a minute, don't the Democrats control the Senate with a filibuster proof majority? So, in reality, isn't it the Democrats who denied "funds for poverty group"?

But that doesn't fit Reuters narrative and it isn't the only thing they leave out of the story.

"WASHINGTON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - A poverty-rights group that has drawn the ire of conservatives suffered another setback in Washington on Monday when the U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly to deny it access to federal housing funds."

Well, if the "U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly" and that same Senate is overwhelmingly Democrat, it would seem ACORN has drawn the overwhelming ire of liberals as well. No?

"The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which helps poor people fight foreclosures and fix tax problems, has received more than $53 million in U.S. funds since 1994, but conservatives' charges of widespread fraud have begun to impact its reputation in the capital."

"Conservatives' charges? So far 30 ACORN individuals have been convicted of fraud.

"Last week, the U.S. Census Bureau told the group it did not want its help boosting participation in next year's census."

Sullivan, the reporter, just throws that out without comment. Sullivan is trying to portray this as an attack on a poverty group by evil conservatives - and failing badly.

"The Senate measure, which passed 83 to 7 in the Democratic-led chamber, was included in a must-pass spending bill that funds housing and transportation programs for the fiscal year that starts October 1.

"This is an opportunity for the United States Senate to stand up and say 'Enough is enough' just as the Census Bureau did," said Republican Senator Mike Johanns, the measure's sponsor."

Interesting isn't it. Sullivan notes the overwhelming vote against ACORN by the "Democratic-led chamber" but quotes a Republican from the minority. Interesting.

"Republicans say ACORN engaged in widespread fraud during the 2008 presidential campaign when it launched a massive voter-registration drive in minority communities, which typically support Democrats and ended up voting overwhelmingly for President Barack Obama."

The courts say so too Mr. Sullivan as the 30 convictions attest to.

"The group has also suffered an embezzlement scandal involving the founder's brother."

The group suffered! Here again, Sullivan leaves out important details that tell a completely different story. Details like ACORN's decision not to prosecute the founders.

"ACORN more recently has been embarrassed by conservative activists who secretly taped employees in several cities giving tax advice to a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute."

Just giving "tax advice". Is that all they did Mr. Sullivan? What about the smuggling of illegal alien children for child prostitution?

For Mr. Sullivan and Reuters, this passes as journalism. How sad.

Reuters - bin Laden is a militant

That's what al Reuters calls the world's most wanted terrorist.

"Soon, God willing, (we will post) a new message to the European people from the lion Imam who defeated the Americans and tyrants, Sheikh Osama bin Laden," said the pro-al Qaeda Web site which regularly posts messages from the militant leader."

and

"Bin Laden's last message was released on October 22. The Saudi-born militant then urged unity between Iraq's Sunni rebels."

Army, Marines exceed recruiting goals

But what is Reuters headline?

"Army, Marines say they made recruiting goals"

And yet in their report Reuters has this to say:

"Army officials said they had exceeded by several hundred their target of recruiting 80,000 new active duty soldiers for fiscal year 2007, which ended on September 30.

Last month, the Army said it had already gone beyond its retention target of getting 62,200 soldiers to re-enlist for the same period.

The Marine Corps said it had exceeded its goal of growing its ranks to 184,000 in the same fiscal year and now had 186,000 Marines."

Afghanistan - BBC fabricates civilian death report

Taleban fighters?!? Next thing you know the BBC will be calling them "freedom fighters"

"At least 60 Taleban fighters have been killed in clashes with Afghan and US-led forces in southern Afghanistan, officials say.

In the first incident, in the province of Helmand, coalition forces responded to a Taleban attack, killing 50 insurgents, they said."

In the second, in neighbouring Kandahar province, 10 militants were killed in clashes with Afghan troops.

Let me make this easy for you BBC. They're Islamic jihadists. True to form the BBC carries the water for the jihadists. "The statement claims no civilians were killed during the battle, but local people told a BBC reporter that most of the dead were women and children. "

Then the BBC offer up this: "Violence has risen sharply in the last two months, as Taleban attacks on Afghan and US-led forces have increased, as part of their summer offensive. " Actually, its because of the increased attacks we've mounted on them and not the other way around.

Update

Hang on a minute here. The BBC claims "local people told a BBC reporter that most of the dead were women and children." But according to Reuters the place was to remote to get to.

"The Taliban, who are leading an insurgency against the government and foreign troops, could not be reached for comment and because of the remoteness of the region there was no independent verification of the report.

Two residents phoned a Reuters reporter in the south to say that 17 people, 16 of them civilians, were killed in the bombing."

Now the BBC doesn't say how the "local people" told them and it could be they got a call as well. But that raises the question of who is actually calling these media outlets and if the area is so remote, how do they have phones? And if people are merely phoning in, how does Reuters or the BBC know they are local? And does local mean Taliban? The answers really don't matter to the BBC or Reuters because the report fits their left wing agendas.

US Treasury bans another Muslim charity

The govenment should be moving faster to shut down these terror fund raisers.

"WASHINGTON, July 24 (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury Department said on Tuesday it has moved to block financing to Lebanese guerrilla group Hezbollah by banning U.S. transactions with a foundation in Iran and a finance company in Lebanon.

The Treasury said in a statement it was designating the Tehran-based Martyrs Foundation and the Al-Qard al-Hassan finance firm in Beirut as providing financial support to terrorist organizations."

A "guerrilla group"? Leave it to al Reuters to fail to mention Hezbollah is a terrorist organization.
