A little taste of regular life...
Picking chores
Gotta love the town spirit we've got going on. The activities during Round Up Week are endless.
We got our rodeo tickets in January. Little did we know both boys would be at FSY that week, so they didn't get to come. But maybe they lucked out? Because as bad as the smoky air had been, the wind picked up and was almost worse. We were so wind whipped and coated in arena dirt by the end of the night! I think my favorite part was the patriotic drone show at the end.
Our ward put together the cutest float. And then the wildfire smoke rolled in and painted the world in sepia tone. We jumped in and participated, never the less.
I hope that we didn't all just give ourselves lung cancer. But our float won second place! And the patriotic cowboy vibes were amazing. We love living here!
Though our numbers were few, the four of us on this hike had an absolute blast. I felt like I was showing the kids what my old summer memories looked like. Climbing trees, playing in forts, adventuring a little bit; it was such a joy!
I think this is my favorite event of Round Up week. The music is fun, the food is cheap, and the atmosphere is so fantastic for the kids. With both boys gone to FSY, I told the girls they could invite the school friends they haven't seen over the summer. I assumed most would be out of town or busy with their own families, but no. I ended up taking 12 girls to the park for the evening!
I know a bunch of them ate cookies, rolls and soda for dinner. But lack of nutrition aside, they loved dancing and playing the carnival games! I loved sitting in the shade, listening to music, and letting a few summer hours pass me by.I have very complicated feelings about trek. There are a lot of things I don't love: the clothes, the melodrama, my personal lack of spiritual fireworks. But there are definitely good things about trek: honoring our ancestors, getting away from cell phones, bonding with the youth, walking with Jesus.
All in all, we had a very great trek this year. I'm grateful Trey and I were able to go together. We spent a lot of time talking to all different groups of people. Conner and Weston were there, but we hardly saw them. They had some great times and some grumpy times, but overall they were glad they went.
