pici

Over the weekend Matthew and I went to check out this little pizzeria cafe in Beverly Hills. The name caught our attention because Pici refers to a hand-rolled pasta that we discovered on our honeymoon. It's a regional specialty of Tuscany and we've been dying to find it since we've been back home. Turns out the pici was authentic and delicious, and the pizza was just as good!

{I spy Matthew!}

I love hanging out with Matthew over the weekends and going on little dates. Can you believe that yesterday marked 6 months of being married?!  I seriously can't believe that a half a year has already flown by. It's been amazing and so wonderful and I'm really looking forward to our first winter holidays together as a married couple. I can't believe Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away!

I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoy this Monday!

happy veggie

The other night Matthew and I decided to have a midweek date night. My fave! He LOVES pho soup and so do but it's been hard to find a good veggie pho in LA. Most of them have beef in them I think. Anyways, we were researching places and heard about this amazing veggie pho place a couple miles from our apartment called Happy Veggie. Let me just say I was one happy veggie :)

The thing I love about pho is that it's so customizable. No two are the same, unless you leave them how they are served. They bring you a big plate of bean sprouts, basil, and different sauces to make it your own. Matthew's is always super spicy and mine is pretty mild in comparison, but still really good. Noodle soup is just so yummy and good! Gets me excited for fall and winter!

I hope you all have a happy happy weekend!

mother dough

Matthew and I have been dying to go to this new pizza place in LA called Mother Dough. We heard about it before the wedding but we were so busy we weren't able to make a date of it. As soon as we got back from Italy we went here for one of our first meals out. It's traditional Napoli style pizza and it reminded up so much of the pizza we had in Positano, maybe even better! We were dying over the delicious burrata salad with this slightly spicy vinaigrette and the classic margherita pie. For dessert we got this heavenly chocolate mousse with lavender sea salt caramel sauce. deeelish! If you're in LA you must must go.

We loved it so much we went back the next week with my parents. Can't wait to go back again!
 {I seriously crave that salad on a daily basis}

Have a lovely first weekend of summer!
After a couple days off the apartment search Matthew and I are starting it up again,
hopefully with more success than before!
What are your plans?

i heart date nights

I love when Matthew and I have date nights! It's something we can both look forward to all week. It seems like we haven't been out to dinner in awhile since last weekend we were busy with Halloween and the week before that I was in Pittsburgh. So this was much needed! Matthew had a Blackboard Eats deal for a sushi place around Mid Wilshire. The staff was so friendly- they gave us a free little appetizer of okra with ponzu sauce, funny key chains and took a "Polaroid" photo of us to put on their wall. It was really sweet! Buuut with that being said {and to be honest}, it wasn't the best food and I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Unless, of course, you had a coupon for 30% off like we did! It was still have to have a little night out though!
When we were leaving the manager said, "See you Tuesday!" which made us think maybe he had us confused with someone else! But then a waiter walked by while we were almost out the door and said, "See you tomorrow!," so I guess they were just being friendly!

This time change is nice on one hand because you get an extra hour of sleep, but if you stay up late {like I normally do!} it doesn't make a difference! I'm determined to get to bed early and catch up on emails and blogs tomorrow! Did any of you forget about to "fall back" your clocks? I usually do!

excuse the poor photo quality..taken on my little Canon

a nighttime bbq

Matthew is lucky that his apartment was a pretty cool roof. There's a communal bbq, a table and chairs, and a jacuzzi {although I've been a little nervous to try it out!}. The other week we had a little bbq for our shrimp and cheese quesadillas. I took these pictures of the views, and while they're not very professional, I kind of like them the way they are.

I know I'm going to look back on these pictures and think, "this was summer!" That's one thing that's frustrating about seasons. We spend so much time looking forward to it and once it's here we can't stop thinking about the one coming up. And then when it's gone we miss it! I'm definitely guilty of this too! Recently I've been thinking about leaves falling, Halloween costumes, gray wool tights and boots. Nevertheless, I'm going to try to stay in the season as much as I can, despite the fact that our fall is supposed to be pretty summer-like. Oh the joys of California living..

look book: date night!

Saturday night I took a break from cooking and Matthew and I went to one of our favorite restaurants in LA, Angeli. {I blogged about it here}. It was nice to go out just the two of us and enjoy some yummy pasta and pizza. Unfortunately the lighting was difficult to take pictures with but we shared an appetizer of Burrata with Fresh Peaches, Farmers Market Tomatoes and a tomato vinaigrette, Linguine with Sicilian Almond Basil Pesto with Tomato, and a Pizza Margherita. It was so good but I wish I had room for dessert!

blouse Forever 21, skirt Urban Outfitters, shoes Aldo

I love the mix of blacks, whites and golds in this outfit! And the ruffly polka dot top is one of my favorites! I was hoping it would compliment the tired ruffles in the skirt without overpowering it.

Happy Wednesday everyone!!
{I was about to say Tuesday..wow this week is flying by!}

pool shark

Here's something you probably don't know about me: I'd consider myself to be kind of a homebody. I love hanging out with friends but sometimes it takes a lot to motivate me to go out. {My couch is just so comfy!} I just hate the crazy, loud places with girls falling all over themselves and music so loud I can't hear myself think. Not to mention the ringing in my ears that ensues for hours after I've left the place. {Hm this makes me sound so old!} But on this one Thursday night Matthew and I just needed a little break. There's a small neighborhood bar nearby that has a pool table, awesome wallpaper and a great laid back vibe. It did the trick!

He doesn't like this picture but I think he looks cute!

take 1...take 2

We made the pool lesson a little educational! And I tried not to get upset when someone erased it 5 minutes later!

If you haven't entered my giveaway yet for the Perricone MD Summer Survival Kit go do it!! I'm drawing the winner later today :)
