Finishing January- New Job & Cookie Walk

Matt started a new job on January 26th at Early Warning.  He worked for them on the zelle app but swtiched in 2021.  They reached out when they needed someone to handle the mobile side of the new Payz app.  He's excited and a bit anxious to take on such a big project.  We are grateful for the blessing of a good job to provide for our family and Matt working so hard to support us all.

I've been busy planning a big event celebrating the books "The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion".  We did a photoshoot to advertise some of the activities we will have at the event.

My sweet friend Lindsay Sherman helped stage the pictures and Angie let us stage them in her cute house!

The boys lined up their whole squishamallow collection.  Olly recently bought the big mushroom- Mooshy.

Mama date to get a shark attack and swing on the swings at Candelight park.

We are all loving when Leo comes over!  He's growing so fast and starting to babble more!

Miles made an umbrella fort!

Our first neighborhood cookie walk of the year was so fun!  Jensen Street hosted!  Charlotte brought Hudson, Marti, Spencer & Leo came.  We had great weather.  I brought out the nachos leftover from our Sunday school party and had brownies and chocolate chip cookies.  Hudson and the Pearce's brought over cookies and Kristin Bowler brought over her leftover ones.

Cute neighbors with their babies!

My favorite part of the cookies walks is all the kids playing together up and down the street.  A game of red light green light broke out!

I love my Friday temple appointments.  Some of the workers know me by name.

Such a good sunrise! Still walking on Monday and Wednesday mornings.  Mostly just Karla early, and Erin Danielson later but somedays we get more!  Arizona in January is pretty magical.

#41 for Erin!

#41 was a great birthday!  It was hard to top my 40th birthday girls trip last year but it was such a nice couple of days!

So many sweet friends dropped off gifts!  I felt so loved!
Leo delivered a card, my Emma Lion Alchemy and Undaunted
pins and a beautiful flower arrangement.
They stayed for dinner & cake!  It feels like a got to meet a new best friend this year getting Leo!

Sweet Angie & Emily came by and got to meet Leo and brought my favorite Godiva chocolate cheecake and kinder bueno.  We went to breakfast another day and I got the new Home & Kind Hostess book.  I have such thoughtful friends.

We decided to let the kids come on our Cheesecake factory date!

They seemed to really like it, but it definitely wasn't cheap.

We split 3 kinds of cheesecake!

Charlotte was slap happy most of the night!

End of August Events!

We watched Spencer Gammon speak in his ward in Lehi, Utah before he left for his mission to South Africa!  We are grateful for technology to watch it, even if we wished we live close enough to go in person!  We can't wait to hear about all his mission experiences!
I'm loving having walking group when the sun is rising! It has been pretty sparse in numbers.  I'll be sad when it stays dark longer soon, but looking forward to cooler weather.

Our sweet friend Michelle Blake retired and her daughter was so nice to put together a suprise birthday retirement dinner at Rosa's.  Kristin, Xan, and I went in on an angelonia plant (becuase Michelle is an angel) and a fun travel bag!

Michelle is going to do retirement so well! It was such a fun party!

We also got to celebrate Kristin's birthday at Spinatos since they were closed on her actual birthday!  It felt almost like old times getting to see each other twice in a month!

Charlotte was thrilled her friend Hudson asked her to the homecoming dance super early- the dance isn't until Oct 18th! She's had fun helping all her friends coordinate their asking & answering- she loves being a social junior!

I love my Fridays at the temple.  I'm lucky to live close to a temple!

My dear friend Sunny Hyatt had the best 40th birthday party!  Her husband Jacob coordinated for all of us to meet her at Lake Saguara for boating & surpise her!  He cooked up the yummiest shish kebobs and other food!  We ate so well and had so much fun!  Sunny is one of my friends who helped me through the young mom years and was one of my best running and babysitting trade buddies.  I intend to keep her forever!  The Millett's were nice enough to let me tag along and bring their boat.  I wasn't brave enough to try wake surfing again in front of a crowd, but maybe next time!

She was so suprised!

Jacob had matching shirts made with her picture on it!  It was the best!

I love when the kids come snuggle and fall alseep on our bed!  Olly still does it occassionally!

August 2025 Highlights

August 21, when Abby, Charlotte and I got home from ministering interviews our first real monsoon storm this year rolled in!  Lots of good lightening, thunder, wind and finally a bit of rain!  We were all out on the front porch enjoying it.  I went in before I got too wet!  I wish we had a storm every day, or at least every week- I love summer storms!  It's the best part of an AZ summer, and it seems like some years we get hardly any.

Mama date to Andy's with this cute Miles boy!  He is gone so long each day 6:55-4:20 each day.  7th grade is a lot with 2 high school classes (Algebra 1 and Spanish 1) but he is doing pretty well.  He really doesn't like piano, but we persist!

I love when it works out for walking group to see the sunrise!  It's been pretty small in August- usually just me and Michelynne and Marti most early mornings.  I'll be sad when it gets later in the year and we're walking in the dark again.

Marti and Spencer came over for Sunday dinner and we took some updated preganancy photos so they could announce on social media, now that they're 3rd trimester! So glad Marti has had a good pregnancy- only more tired, strong sense of smell, and a little dizzy when it's so hot.

We are going to love habing a baby nephew/cousin so close!!

Mom date with the girls!  They were nice and let me meet their teachers and some of their friends at the Mt. View open house!  These girls always keep busy with school work and lots of friends (including some guys!)

Early morning walk with Marti!  I'm so glad to have her so close!

Mom date with Olly boy!  He is doing well sophmore year, almost done with braces.  We've let him do two friend sleepovers at Shane's house.  It's been hard for me to let him try it but I'm trying to trust his judgement and start to allow more freedom in high school.  So far so good.  He loves to be in charge of zone 3 chores and keeps the kitchen so clean- I really appreciate him.

Found this gem at Old Brick house!  I love old books!

Angie does such a good job on my hair! I wish it looked this good everyday!  But I lack the skills and patience to want to spend that much time!

Salad swap is back!  Yay!  This Corn off the Cobb salad from Plumstreet collective was a BIG hit!

Finally celebrated Kellis' birthday- a lovely morning chatting at Tru Bowl my first time there! It was yummy!  It felt so good to get to catch up with some of my favorite friends!  It was easier to have friendships when my kids were littler and we would trade babysitting & playgroups.  I love these ladies!

We also celbrated Angie's birthday with Emily- we did iniatories at the Mesa Temple then shopping at Scottsdale Fashion Square and Last Chance, and lunch at Olive & Ivy!  It was a blast!  I regret not getting pictures!  One reason summer is so hard for me is so many of my friends are too busy or out of town!  Yay for friend time!

First Day of School 2025!

This is our first time ever starting in July.  It was Thursday, July 31st, but I still hope we never start in July again- the summers already go by way too fast!

First Day of School Pictures!

Charlotte-11th grade & driving her siblings to high school Abby-10th Oliver-10th, Miles 7th!

We moved breakfast back 15 minutes to 6:45 because of the switch to a block schedule the older 3 high school kids don't have an A-hour- so 8:15 is the latest they've ever started school.  Since most of the school starts at the same time now and Charlotte is still a nervous driver they're leaving at 7:30 AM for now to avoid the craziest traffic.  They also wait 15 minutes to leave after.  So far so good.

Charlotte has a very challenging schedule this year. Everyone says Junior year is the hardest. She was stressed before school started, but so far seems to be liking the challenge and competition of it, especially Academic Decathlon (AcDec).  She has mentioned she likes AP Language and AP US History (they shorten everything to ApLang and APUSH- which cracks me up).  She also has AP Chemistry, Seminary, Symphony orchestra again (she didn't want to try chamber this year with everything else gong on) and she's a TA for AP Spanish (Olly's class;-). She's having to stay after school several days a week for AcDec, so I am still picking up the twins in the after-school craziness sometimes.

Oliver has a lot of friends in his classes, which is fun.  He thinks AP Spanish will be his hardest class.  He's also in PreCalc, Honors English, Honors Chemistry, Seminary, and welding, which should be fun!

Abby had some friends come to the school, and some friends moved or transferred away. Her group and Olly's group still eat lunch together.  She also thinks AP Spanish will be her hardest class.  She's in, Honors English, Honors Chemistry, Algebra 2, Seminary, Symphony orchestra with Charlotte, and sports, which should be her fun one!  She's loved badminton in the past.  Both Abby & Olly are trying out the first year of the Academies at Mt. View where they choose a focus class- they are in the Engineering and Design Academy so they have a class for that.  Hopefully, the change to Academies and block schedule is a good one, it's hard to be the first transition year for so many changes- there has been a lot of pushback from parents.
Miles is still at Mesa Academy in 7th grade.  It was considered junior high last year, the way Mesa Academy lets them choose their electives and stay an extra hour but it feels more official this year.  He's taking two high school classes- Algebra 1 and Spanish 1 so that's more pressure to get a good grade.  He chose Art and Spanish for his electives this semester.  He'll have Music Theory next semester.  He doesn't have a ton of friends in his classes, but he's got a good group he eats lunch with, and they get together after school to play games online or nerf wars and birthdays.  The first week has been a hard transition.  We leave the house at 7am to meet his 7:15 bus (the Mesa Academy stop moved a bit down the street- to Jensen & Harris instead of at the church at Harris & Hope where it's been for all the 7 years I've had kids going there).  Then he doesn't get home until just after 4pm to start homework.  It's a long day, poor kid, not a lot of downtime. He's gone an hour longer than the other kids.

Miles is getting on at the new bus route.

I made sure to have peanut butter cookies after school the first day!  The kids love our cookie tradition while they tell us about their day.  We're proud of how hard they work in their challenging classes and that they're all learning to be a good friend and have good friends too. We hope it's a good year of learning and friends for each of them.
