I keep trying to keep both my blogs updated but it is proving to be a difficult thing. I do end up posting on this blog but it always ends up being so late! But it's better late than never. On Father's Day (June 21st) Jared had a little cough and runny nose so Therin stayed home with him while I went to church with the kids (I know it was Father's day but I had to lead the music in sacrament meeting so I had to be there. But I did make sure Therin got a Big Hunk candy bar the ward was passing out!!) So after church we got home and Therin had said that Jared kept waking up from his nap crying and acting like he was in pain. Therin gave him some motrin and I noticed that he was breathing a little funny but didn't think much of it. We hurried and made dinner and ate but by the time dinner was over Jared was really struggling to breath. I hurried and called the doctor and they said to take him in.
We took him in where they tested his oxygen levels and found that he was not getting enough oxygen. They gave him a breathing treatment and tested for strep throat and the swine flu. The tests came back negative and the breathing treatment seemed to help a little but the doctor was still concerned so they sent us down to get x-rays. After getting the x-rays we went back up to see the doctor (we had to go to the ER to get x-rays) to get the results of the x-ray. After waiting a few minutes to get the results, Jared's breathing started getting worse and his oxygen levels were dropping. They gave him another breathing treatment, which didn't help much, then we finally heard back from radiology that he had pneumonia. We then went back to the hospital, straight to the pediatric unit where they put in an IV and a breathing tube, checked for RSV, and did a whole bunch of blood work. By this time it was 11:00 p.m. and Jared hadn't slept all day so he was exhausted. He wanted to sleep so bad but was woken up time after time by respiratory therapists, nurses checking his vitals, the breathing tube being fitted, etc... Poor little guy was so sad and tired, not to mention me who was a total basket case. Luckily my sister was with me so I didn't have to wait by myself until Therin got there.
Therin finally got there with our neighbor (thanks Todd) to give him a blessing then my sister went home to watch the kids and Therin stayed at the hospital with me. That night was horrible with the oxygen machine beeping every 5 minutes saying that his oxygen levels were getting too low, or the IV machine beeping saying the tube was pinched somewhere, and the respiratory therapists coming in every 2 hours for breathing treatments, and the nurses every 30 minutes checking his vitals. The morning finally came and we waited for the doctor to come and analyze Jared and Therin went home to be with the kids. Jared was still hooked up to the oxygen so we had to stay another night. Therin stayed that second night while I went home to try and get some sleep and send my sister off to girls camp the following morning.
By the third day Jared was looking a lot better and running up and down the halls like there wasn't anything wrong with him. Luckily there was only one other patient (a little one year old) in the whole pediatric area so Jared pretty much had the whole area to himself. The only thing that was keeping him at the hospital was his oxygen levels while he slept......they kept dropping.
By the fourth day the respiratory therapist said that some people put the oxygen detector thing on their own finger/toe to just be able to get out of the hospital. I so wanted to do that except I knew I would get home and be worried the whole time and wouldn't be able to sleep, so we waited and waited. Until finally on the 5th day the doctor said that even though his oxygen levels were still dropping while he slept, he was bouncing back after a little while on his own so he could come home!! Yeah!!! I think Jared was just as ready as I was to get out of there! As much as he loved watching the helicopter take off and land and running up and down the halls with the wagons, he was ready to get home and play outside with his brother and sister! So we took him home with orders to do breathing treatments 3 times a day for a week then go back in for a followup appointment. He did so well that week after the hospital and was running around like nothing ever happened. The followup appointment went perfect and was given a clean bill of health. We are so grateful for all of our friends and family for meals, thoughts, prayers, watching kids, and everything!

Jared not happy after breathing tube was put in.

Kissing the frog with an "oowie" on his balloon.

Jared LOVED having his food brought to him and being able to eat it in bed. Whenever the nurses would walk in the room he would say "food, food."

He loved the play room they had at the hospital and loved being pulled in the wagons

He also loved pulling the wagons. There was this little one that he would stuff with toys then run around the halls pulling it. Mason came to visit one day and Jared pulled him in the big wagon, which Mason thought was really fun!
