a little of this and a little of that
I've been tagged by Megan...
10 years ago:
I was a Senior at Taylor High School...applying and receiving acceptance letters from college. I was gearing up for graduation and probably one of my favorite summers of all time!
Things on my to do list today:
• Take Mason to his 6 month checkup, even if he is going on 8 months in a few weeks
• Look for a new comforter set for the Master Bedroom
• Pick up mail that was sent to the Hotel rather than the house
• Take a nap
What would I do if I was suddenly became a Billionaire?
• Tithe 10%
• Pay off Adam's student loans, build our dream house and a vacation house
• Invest and save most of it for our future and our children's college
• Travel all over the world
Three of my bad habits:
• being way to anal about stuff, yes it is my flaw
• watching one of my shows on dvr, when i should be doing something else
• staying up late when i know i have a baby who likes to get up at 7am
Five jobs I have had:
1. Senior Project Manager at Probstfeld & Associates
2. Marketing Analyst at IIR
3. Waitress/Bartender/Certified Trainer at Red Lobster in College
4. Nanny
5. Client Services Coordinator at The Spa at Cinco Ranch
Five things people don't know about me:
1. I still have every card/note/letter I have ever received and I occasionally go thru the box to walk down memory lane
2. I despise the snooze button. It shouldn't even be allowed to be on an alarm, it's annoying to hear over and over again, especially if you don't have to get up. We don't use it in our house anymore
3. I wrote in journals all thru high school and college and now I blog
4. I am ambidextrous, except when it comes to writing, then I'm purely a lefty
5. I still keep in touch with my first grade teacher Mrs. Stebbins.
okay, now I tag these people: jill, summer, kathleen, grace, kelli, lori, allison, and lindsey

breaking out
Every night before I go to sleep for the night, I venture into Mason's room to make sure he is covered up and say a prayer over him. Last night, I followed my routine and walked into his room only to find him like this...
Immediately, I grabbed my camera because it was too cute not to capture this moment. Somehow in the middle of the evening, his leg became wedged in between the bars of his crib and he didn't even fuss about it. On top of the fact that he maneuvered it over his crib bumper. Right after I took the picture, I put his leg back in the crib and he didn't even stir.

sweet spirit
I'm sure many of you have heard of Beth Moore and Living Proof Ministries. I was a part of a couple of her biblestudies and throroughly enjoyed and learned so much about myself and more importantly my relationship with God. I came across a blog that she writes with her two daughters, Amanda & Melissa. If you get a chance ladies, check it out. I was brought to tears as she talked about a mothers love and her daughter's wedding. The link is under Blogs of Interest.

decor
My creative juices have been in full gear since we moved into the house. I really want to paint the walls and add some color to the place. All the white walls remind me of the apartment and a little color will go a long way. I also want to change the color scheme of our living room, but first I need to decide on the colors. We have espresso brown leather couches that are currently accented with cranberry colored pillows from Kirkland's. While the colors aren't bad, I think we need a little lighter color to accent the darkness of the furniture. Any suggestions? Once I decide on the color, I plan on making new throw pillows for the couch. Either I will start from scratch or just make pillow shams for the current pillows. The color of the throw pillows will help me decide on the paint for the walls.
I love decorating. Ever since I was a little girl, I would rearrange my bedroom furniture every couple of months. I have been meaning to add to the decor in Mason's bedroom for some time. His theme is nautical and I have come across many nick knacks that would be perfect for his room. Instead of purchasing some of them, I thought I would make it part of a craft project. What better place to go for crafts than Hobby Lobby, only they don't have one in Bakersfield. So instead I headed to Michael's.
As I strolled thru the aisles, so many different ideas flooded my head. I had to remind myself not to get side tracked and to stay focused. I came across sa couple of pieces that would look great in his room and decided I needed to get to work.
I still need to paint the captain's wheel, but I'm hoping to finish it this weekend before Adam returns from his business trip in Cancun. The anchor and the wheel will hang over the crib. Before Mason was born, I purchased wooden rowing oars and cris-crossed them with a nail. I finally put Mason's name of the paddles and that will go over the dresser. The only thing missing in the room is an old life preserver. I found one in Houston and will have to pick it up next time I go home. My personal touch to the life preserver " U.S.S. Mason"

Chicken Marsala
Thanks for all the Anniversary wishes. We had a wondeful day. Adam actually finished his work day early and made it home around 2pm. He & Mason ran some errands together so that I could do some things around the house. It was nice to have a little alone time.
That evening I made dinner for the two of us. I was going to wait until Mason was down for the night, but Adam didn't have lunch and I knew he wouldn't mind an early dinner. I made yummy Chicken Marsala. We thought about going out to eat with Mason, but I wanted to keep Mason on his schedule, especially since he hasn't had much of one with the move this last month. It is really easy and only takes 30 minutes total to prep and cook. I know alot of you have little ones or just need a quick and easy meal to make, so I included the recipe below.
Chicken Marsala - 4 servings
4 Bonless, skinless chicken breast havles or boneless, skinless chicken tenders will work too
1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 pepper
2 Tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
2 cloves of Garlic finely chopped (I used 2 Tablespoons of chopped garlic out of the jar)
1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley or 1 Tablespoon of Parsley Flakes
1 cup of sliced mushrooms (I used the entire package)
1/2 cup of dry Marsala wine or chicken broth (I've always used the chicken broth)
Hot Cooked Pasta if desired
Flatten each chicken breast half to 1/4 inch thickness by gently pounding between sheets of plastic wrap or waxed paper. Mix flour, salt and pepper. Coat chicken with flour mixture; shake off excess flour.
Heat oil in 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Cook garlic and parsley in oil 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add chicken to skillet. Cook, turning once, until brown. (I sometimes turn it more frequently to evenly cook it) Add mushrooms and wine/broth.
Cook 8 to 10 minutes, turning chicken until chicken is no longer pink in the center. Serve with Pasta. Pour broth/wine with mushrooms over entree.

Two Beautiful Years
At the wedding rehearsal
Praying with Pastor Alex
Aunt Tabaitha & Uncle Adam with our ring bearer and nephew Jared
Maid of Honor & Bride
First dance as husband & wifeTwo years ago today, I married my best friend. It was a gorgeous day for a wedding and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Although it went by quickly, I made sure to take in every moment. We were very fortunate to have so many family & friends to share our day with us, as well as pictures from that day. My dad alone took over 700 pictures and I know my mother-in-law took close that herself. Our photographer captured several precious moments that warm my heart every time I look at the pictures.
Happy Anniversary Babe! I knew you were special from the beginning and I am so thankful to call you my husband. You have given me unconditional love, encouragement, support, a hand to hold, someone to worship with, and the most precious gift of all, a son! I love you honey!

First Celebrity Sighting
Do any of you remember the Cingular commercial with the triplets? Last night Adam, Mason & I decided to take a break from unpacking and go out to eat. We had received a gift certificate from The Olive Garden and decided we were in the mood for Italian. As soon as we walked in the restaurant, I spotted one of the Karshner Triplets. I'm not exactly sure which one it was, but I told Adam that I thought it was one of the triplets from the Cingular commercial. Adam vaguely remembered the commercial and said he didn't know for sure, but I was certain it had to be one of the guys. After we were seated, he was seated at the table behind us with his date. Small world, especially in Bakersfield.

Today Adam decided to google and see if I was indeed correct and sure enough, all three of the triplets live near by and work in Bakersfield. Actually, the work the Holiday Inn Select in downtown Bakersfield, where Adam had a meeting last week, as servers, assist with conferences and film commercials.

Peace & Patience
Ok, if you read the previous entry, you know how crazy and hectic it has been at our house lately. Honestly, I can't complain too much, because all in all we are blessed. Coming into this move to a new state, we knew it wouldn't be easy and we were ready for the challenge.
Everyday I pray for two major things in my life, peace and patience. As a mother and a wife, peace and patience are required. The Lord has blessed our family with the most adorable baby boy. He is a very well mannered for a baby, always has a smile on his face, and knows how to make his mommy and daddy laugh. However, that doesn't mean that motherhood is easy.
My life, in my opinion, seems to work better when I know what lies ahead and everything is organized and in its place. Trust me, I realize that life doesn't work that way and if it did, then God wouldn't be able to teach me and allow me to grow as a person and spiritually. It has been a struggle to let go of my control issues and be open to change. Moving to Bakersfield meant leaving my family, friends, church, basically my comfort zone behind and going to the unknown. With open arms, I welcomed this change and God opened my eyes from the beginning showing me that this was the path we were to embrace and take as a family. I am so glad I did, because walking in His path and following His plans for you rather than your own, is more rewarding in the long run.
My friend Kelli, wrote about Peace in her blog and after reading it, a light went off.
She was doing a Beth Moore study and when she read Isaiah 48:18, God's word hit her HARD and it did the same for me.
"Your peace would have been like a river" And Beth said these two things "He described a peace that can be retained while life twists and turns and rolls over boulders.... To have peace like a river is to have security and tranquility of heart and mine while meeting many bumps and unexpected turns on life's journey through change."
This last week was hard and I pray for peace on a daily basis, but I never realized that God can't bring peace without a little chaos. I always assumed that peace meant that everything would go smoothly and all would be calm. No, that isn't what He means at all. I needed to embrace the challenges of the week and react to them with a tranquil heart. Thank you Kelli for sharing your thoughts, because it is exactly what I needed to hear.
Also, the same applies to patience. How can we ask for patience, if we have nothing to be patient over? Mason is my patience! Being a mom and a wife is the dream I have always wanted. I honestly feel that it is MY PURPOSE in life to be the best mom and wife I can be to my family. It is where I feel the most challenged and rewarded.

It has been a VERY HECTIC week in our house! Quick recap:

* Received the DREADFUL call from the movers letting us know they won't be able to come today. (all major freeways leading into Bakersfield were closed due to the snow and ice in the mountains the night before)
* Decided to do all of our grocery shopping.
* Went to another hotel for Monday night. (Adam had a dinner meeting that night for work, so it was just Mason & Mommy)
* Tuesday morning, woke up early and checked out of the hotel.
* Went to the house and waited for the movers. (Adam was gone from 7:30am to 10:30pm for regional meetings and a company outting)
* Tuesday morning realized that the only thing we forgot to do was set up the Gas...
* That meant no HEAT or HOT WATER!
* Called Adam to share the news that they wouldn't be able to come out until Thursday afternoon. (I did cry by this point)
* Bundled Mason up and tried to entertain him, while the movers unloaded all of our furniture and boxes.
* 165 boxes later, the movers left and it was just Mason & me the rest of the day.
* Decided to tackle the kitchen first.
* Tuesday night at 10:30pm, Adam tells me that his boss told him to take the next day off to help his wife. (I was speechless when he told me)
* Wednesday morning the gentleman from Dish Network came to setup our cable.
* Mid morning I realized our phone line wasn't working and neither was our internet.
* Called ATT and the repair guy couldn't come out until Thursday.
* Unpacked most of the living room boxes.
* Thursday morning the ATT rep fixed our phone line - no charge!
* Thursday afternoon...WE HAVE HEAT! (It gets into the upper 20s at night to low 30s)
* Thursday unpacked all of Mason's room, did laundry, ran and unloaded the dishwasher.
* That night we unpacked our bathroom and took hot showers and went to bed .
All of this, while taking care of a baby that is almost 7 months old is alot of work. I am so glad it's the weekend and Adam will be home to help. Don't get me wrong, he helped alot when he was home, but it's a lot of work. We have accomplished alot and yet still need to organize and unpack the guest bedroom, hang pictures and start decorating.

big week
Our time in Houston is coming to an end. Tomorrow afternoon, we fly back to California and will join Adam in Bakersfield. It was big week for Mason and for me. It was the first time to travel with Mason alone and I definitely had my hands full, but things went smoothly with little complaints.
He had his first ear infection and he made sure it wasn't just some ordinary ear infection, it had to be a double ear infection. On Wednesday, my sister gave Mason his first haircut. He had what I call a "Donald Trump comeover". We didn't need to cut alot, but just some off of the top. I made sure to save all the strands for his book and take pictures. Luckily, my sister is an experienced hairstylist and had no problems with the little wiggle worm.
Thursday morning, I woke up early and put Mason on the bed with pillows all around him, while I reached for a clean diaper. When I turned around, he was pushing the pillows to the side and crawled for the first time. It wasn't just a slight crawl, he moved forward 3 times. I was so excited and so sad at the same time. We knew Mason was getting close to crawling and were hoping it would be delayed a week, so that Adam wouldn't miss it, but sure enough Mason decides to crawl when I least expect it. I don't think he even realized what he did. He only moves forward or backward a couple of times, so by the time we get back to California and in the new house, he will be in full force. I'll need to start baby proofing everything.
