Happy Birthday to my Girls!

It has been WAY, WAY too long since my last post, I know. So many family members remind me often of exactly HOW long it has been since my last post;-) Today the weather was not to be missed. We soaked up as much Vitamin D as we could for the day and I snapped away with my camera. As crazy and busy life gets with three little ones, I had a few moments of pause this afternoon and realized that I am having so much joy in this journey of motherhood. I need to capture these fleeting moments before they pass.
These are a few fun pictures of my birthday girls "modeling" today, and 2 from the pumpkin farm. This last week we celebrated Cameryn's 4th birthday and Sophia's 1st birthday. Happy Birthday to my two girls!

Christmas Morning

Hilarious. What do kids do when you yell "pose"? They're learning;-)
Christmas Eve and their new Jammie's and slippers.

These shots are of the kids coming down the stairs Christmas Morning at first glimpse of their Santa gifts. I hoped to capture the excitement of the moment well.

They really wanted a train table. Yes both of them. Santa, unfortunately was stuck in New Foundland with a broken C-130 and made it home just in time for Christmas. Santa and his helper "Uncle Scott" (I didn't call you elf ;-) !!! Spent most of Christmas eve building the train table. It was finished two days later.

Signs of a good dad: Saturday morning manicure/pedicure.
Girls outnumber the boys now, and although Brock grew up with mostly boy household, he's handling it pretty well. Either that or he's just waving the white flag! Our Table setting for Thanksgiving included a turkey that the kids and I made the day before. We gathered leaves and pine cones, used an old pumpkin from Halloween and raided the craft closet. It was really quite fun!
We had a delicious thanksgiving that included two new recipes this year: Carmel Apple Pie and a Twofer which is a combination of pumpkin on the bottom and pecan on the top. Both will be showing up at next years feast! YUM!

My Mom isn't happy with me!!!

Ok- I'm not going to lie, its been a long year for the Burkhardt family and one I am happy to see to end! We have high hopes for this coming year and of course it wouldn't be the Burkhardt home, if we weren't busy.....I mean, running around like chickens with our heads cut off (funny image, right!?). I have LOTS to blog about. I took last year off, and I've been looking over our pictures and remembering stories, and gosh darnit, they just need to be shared. I'll be doing some "recap blogging". I am now getting DAILY reminders that I need to post pictures since she has school off this week. Ok- Mom, these are for you!

Cameryn showing off her ballet moves. She is such a "type A" ballerina, and one of the only girls in her class that actually dances. I love it- toe turned in, knee in the front and stiff arms- her first passe, and ready for her winter dance recital. Yes, we bought her flowers!

I caught Cameryn
reading to her sister
My girls watching the Nutcracker Ballet together for the first time. Cam loves watching this movie and has reenacted or danced several scenes for me several times. While sitting on the couch, she'll say, "Mom watch", and start shaking her shoulders and humming. That is couch dancing ;-)
Somehow Brock has always pulled out the 1st smiles in our kids. No exception here. The proverbial balancing act that has caused many a mom premature heart attacks. He tries to get each child to balance earlier and earlier. Sophia is 2 1/2 months here, a new record. And to any of you mom's out there who have had Brock balance your child, I sincerely apologize for any resulting heart conditions.

That is all for today. I'll post a few more pictures tomorrow ;-)

The Lucky One's

I originally wrote this during the summer, and found the draft. I like it and don't know why I didn't post it. Here is a recap of a random day in June:

Today is the first day in a long, long time that we've had a down day. The kind of day when you can relax. There are no appointments, therapist visits, schools, nothing to do but what I want to do. The weather is a cozy overcast, that kind of weather that makes you want to stay inside and read with your kids. The dishes are done, there is one load of laundry in the wash, dinner is planned, the house is generally clean, and the kids are getting along and not getting into trouble upstairs.....I think. (Maybe I should check again.) I've been waiting for this day for YEARS!!!!
I think I'm feeling, contentment, peace. It's been awhile.

Let me give you a little morsel of my day yesterday.
Get up and have a meeting with prospecitve kindergarten teachers to decide the best placement for Pearce next year. Drive to speech therapist to drop off the darn papers that won't fax correctly. Pick up the kids from Brock and head to the new house to choose carpet and paint. The house is empty (no furniture, nothing, we only signed 3 days ago) the painter is out buying paint, and I lock the kids and myself in the house and let them run free thinking there is really no way for them to get hurt. Not even 10 minutes later, while I'm comparing whites, Pearce comes screaming down stairs because Cameryn found the bug repellent in the garage and sprayed Pearce in the eyes. 20 minutes of tears and a soaked and striped down Pearce we have peace again for a minute. Then we leave the new house to get home (an hour away and through 2 giant rain/lightning/thunder storms) to meet the ABA therapist, who I found out at 6 pm wasn't coming, because my phone doesn't register messages until hours later. We go to swim lessons and I get a headache just watching Pearce from the bleachers. Lessons are in the 3 ft end of the pool and he is so excited he doesn't stop moving the whole entire lesson and a life guard is assigned to watch him, specifically, while the teacher works with the other kids in class. He goes under a few times, but is happy as a clam to keep trying. Then we get into the parking lot and he defiantly won't hold my hand while crossing the street and decided to play tag around the car and almost gets hit. We have a BBQ that night and make s'mores for desert. "Pearce don't touch the BBQ it's hot and you'll burn yourself". Pearce: "Ouch, mom that's hot". Repeat 3 times. Cam where are the graham crackers? "Right here mom", "the box is empty Cam". Pearce: Mom look, I can climb like Spiderman. Pearce get off of the fridge.

We were picking out light fixtures at Lowes and Cameryn was crying, Pearce "broke" his leg again and I'm definitely on my last nerve and I decide, they need either a time out or hugs. And I realize I do too. I need a time out or a hug. We had a big cheesy family hug, and Pearce wouldn't let go....and he wouldn't let go.....and he wouldn't let go. And I got a little teary. He really, really needed a hug. Maybe, just maybe he's having just as bad of a day as I am.

Pearce just grabbed the scissors, and gave himself a hair cut....and my day has started, again.

Beautiful Baby Sophia

I love beautiful photographs, especially when they involve babies. There's just something about the two that make you say, "ooooohhhhh, how cute!", and you can cherish the moments when they are so tiny over and over again. These were taken when Sophia was one week old and still so sleepy. Baby number three has been wonderful so far, and I am soaking up every moment that I can. I love that we have these photographs to capture such precious fleeting moments. Enjoy!
She may possibly disown me one day for subjecting her to the pom pom beanie, but seriously how cute is that?!!

She's Arrived!

Sophia Marie Burkhardt

Wednesday October 6th, 2010
7 lbs. 14 oz. 21" long

Finally our little Sophie has arrived!

A quick recap of the story- Tuesday evening I started having contractions which happend to be on the same evening Mark and Ann (Brock's parents) were arriving from Florida. They pulled into the driveway at 8pm, and we went to the hospital around midnight. The contractions were slowing so I agreed to an induction on the condition that I'd only feel it for 1 cm and we had a "great" anesthesiologist. He never showed up! No doctor, no midwife. I did have a nurse who could only say "don't push". Unfortunately, her priorities weren't at the top of my list. She came very quickly, and thankfully both of us are recovering and happy at home.
