life

Life just keeps moving forward doesn't it? I sometimes forget that I have my blog still and that maybe I should be good about posting to it about the goings on in our crazy family.   Let's see, Xanen is 17 and got his drivers license. Poor kid is a bit nervous about driving, so he has only gone to the base and the gas station by the house.   He has started looking for jobs, but I think because it says he does marching band people probably look at it and throw it away :(  This will be his last year of that, he is a senior this coming year and it is super crazy to think that he will be 18 in less than a year and getting ready to move on.  Sniff sniff, I have been trying not to think about it.  Brennan turned 14 and was able to go to his first dances at school and at church.  He is still struggling a bit with church stuff since he has been bullied a lot by a few kids in our ward and because of something that happened in November.  He is a good kid, but I worry about him and pray that he knows how many people love him.   Over all it has been eye opening to many people, especially those who assumed that it was all in Brennans head and that he was a bad kid, some have shown true compassion for him and let him know that they love him, others have shown their true colors and that has been super sad to deal with.   Hazel is 11 and is a girly girl. She loves dressing up, makeup, crafts, she is taking piano and singing lessons, she graduates from elementary school next month and goes to middle school next school year and will also graduate from Primary this year. She honestly is my messy kid,  her whole side of the room is trashed and she hordes everything LOL she sure does keep me on my toes.  Elyse is 9, in 3rd grade and doing amazing!! Her teacher this year has been awesome and sure has helped with Elyses's reading.  She now wears glasses and looks super cute.  She is also taking piano and although she tells me she doesn't like it, I think she does. I have caught her practicing, even though she says she doesn't like it LOL
Tom and I are also a year older. ;) we are just counting down the time that he can retire and we can pick a permanent home. That is a lot scary considering we have lived this lifestyle for awhile now.  I am busy with PAC (think PTA but NM style) Primary and everything else I do.  Tom is trying to help out a 4 H group, is crazy busy at work and helps me with everything I do. I sure do love him.

Since my fun in March, we have kept busy.  All the kids passed their grades in school and graduated to the next one. This year we will have a Junior, 8th grader, 5th grader and 3rd grader. My babies are getting so big!!! The oldest will be able to get his liscnese in a few months, it has been interesting driving with him. I am not as patient as I thought I would be LOL. The kids got out of school and we enjoyed part of Memorial Day weekend here at home so that we could spend time with Tom for his birthday.   We had planned on starting to drive that Sunday, but something kept telling me to stay that day, so I did.  I am thankful for that prompting because on that Sunday I found out that a dear sweet friend of mine from our time in California had taken her own life.  My heart still aches for her sweet family.  Monday we started out our adventures and stopped in Colorado Springs to visit our friends at their store.  We always love to see the Wildernesses and eventually Tom will be able to make the trip with us and see them as well.  We made it to WA in 3 days of driving, the first night we stayed in Evanston WY, the second night we made it to Ontario, OR.  I just didn't have it in me to drive 13 hr days.  One of our stops in the middle of Wyoming at Little America, we actually ran into a friend from Okinawa!!!! It was so fun to see Shannon Rios and her kiddos.
We enjoyed our time with family and got to have some time with cousins.  I got to go to the New Kids on the Block concert with my sister in Portland OR on June 6, my mom watched the kids while we went down there, did some shopping, went to the concert, etc. It was amazing being able to have a sisters trip.  The Concert was fantastic, it included Boyz 2 Men and Paula Abdul.  Tons of women our ages dressed like teenie boopers.  It was just as fun people watching as it was singing and dancing along to the music.  We rode the train from our hotel to the concert and back, I can see how that can be a very interesting ride LOL.  We actually saw a gal that I went from K-12 with on the Train on the way back from the concert (small world I am telling you).   We didn't get any shirts or anything at the concert, they were crazy expensive!!!  So was the food!  The next day we did some more shopping, visited the temple grounds and went to Ikea, we didn't get home until after 10 pm, but man it was worth every minute getting to spend it with my awesome sister!!

I got to see lots of family while I was home, including my two great aunts and some of their kids, got to meet my parents friends from their time in the Air Force, got to see 3 of my best friends from High School and have dinner with them, got to go on a movie date with my dad and two siblings, band concerts of my nieces and cousin, football game for my nephew, celebrated my moms birthday, went shopping with my dad for my moms birthday gifts (everything was giving my dad dirty looks LOL um no people, this is my dad LOL ), spent the weekend with my grandparents, spent time with my uncle and his family, got to see my aunt and her family, visited Tom's brother and his family, saw my college roommate on the way to WA, visited my cousin on the way home from WA, visited another cousin while we were in Portland at his restaurant, made a quilt at my moms, watched my sweet Keiko enjoy the freedom of running around my parents yard and playing with her friend Henry, going to church and seeing so many friends there, taking my kids to On the Record and letting them go through all the music they had to offer,  I'm sure my list could go on and on and on.  I am thankful that we were able to make this trip.  Family is special and you never know what the next year will bring, when we were in Okinawa it was hard to get home and see everyone, so now that I can drive and take the kids, I feel it is very important to make it happen.  The only down part was that Tom wasn't with us, we had to leave him and the cat home. :(  We did make it home on Father's Day to spend a little time with him.

We got home just in time for my to hit the ground running.  I am a key spouse for our unit, so the first day I had a meeting to go to.  Then onto a Primary meeting for church, right back into swim team practice.  (Brennan made the HS swim team, he will be in 8 grade this year, he is super excited and doing really well).  We have been slowly but surely working on getting the house dejunked, but it seems like we have something going on all the time.  Swimming and a movie with friends.

Tom ended up needing a root canal, so we had an impromptu trip to Lubbock, then that night we went to see Firehouse and Winger in concert here in Clovis.  It was a fun concert, I especially loved hearing the amazing ballads by Firehouse ( you know you want to look them up and see what they are)

We went to Dragging Main, it is an event here in Clovis that goes on for a week and ends in people Dragging Main in their old cars and walking down main street and checking out the vendors.  We got to have some free BBQ for military families, saw lots of awesome cars, Brennan even got to ride in one.  Always fun to go see the community come out and support these events.

Fourth of July here in Clovis is always awesome!  We started out our day with breakfast at the church, we went swimming with some friends, then headed over to our friend Diana Elliots house for dinner and fireworks.  She is 84 and amazing!! The kids loved listening to her stories and emjoyed watching her throw pop its.  We also went to the church and watched the city fireworks from there.  From 6pm on here you get a good firework show from all over. It amazes me how much people spend on their fireworks here.

Xanen was able to go to youth conference at Texas Tech in June, he always fights me on going to things, but he always has a ton of fun going to them.  Thank goodness he has made some friends from other wards that he gets excited to hang out with when he goes to different events.   He over all had fun with his friends, but said the year before was much better.  I don't think he realizes how much work goes into these things.

The boys ended up not going to scout camp, they decided that since it was just them going from our ward that they would rather spend time as a family, so we had a blast! We went to Lubbock one day and got free slurpees at 7-11, free food at Chick Fil A, free books at Barnes and Noble and then went to see Despicable me 3 and Cars 3 at the drive in movie theatre, we took one of Brennans friends with us and I think everyone had a great day! Both movies were cute and I am glad that we could have our kids experience something that both of us loved to do when we were kids.  The Drive in is awesome, it has a 50's diner, a play ground and even plays the old clips from the drive ins.

This week we are enjoying our last not too crazy week of summer, Xanen starts marching band camp next week and we pretty much won't see him until November.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Concert with Salvage and Sparkle

While at yoga class one morning a few months ago, my friend Alisa walks in and I ask her where our friend Lisa was, well she was out in the car trying to score Garth Brooks tickets.  I told her to tell Lisa to get me one, she did and then scored 3 tickets for this amazing show.  Very excited for the concert to come, we got a hotel, planned out a few things we wanted to do and all of the sudden the day was here!!  It was Spring Break week for my kids, which this year included Drivers Ed for the oldest, so after I got him off to school and made sure the others would live without me, I had a curbside pickup at my house and off we went for 2 days of adventure!!!!  My two friends run a business called Salvage and Sparkle, they make all kinds of fun stuff, know where all the good places to shop are, etc.  I knew it was going to be a fun few days.

We started our fun with a stop at the BBQ place right across the line into Farwell, Texas. (it is only open on Thursday mornings and Friday evenings), next stop was Sudan Texas to take pictures of some old abandoned buildings.  I think they were worried that I wouldn't have fun doing this, little do they know that I come from a family of random photographers and have learned to find beauty many places.  We had fun taking shots and being amazed by the things people just leave behind.  We spent the rest of the day shopping looking for the perfect outfits to wear to the concert. (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, the Mall)  We checked into our hotel (which thankfully was just minutes from where the concert was being help) and got all dolled up and ready to go.   We could start getting into the venue at 6pm, so we had a little time on our hands and went to the Walmart across from our hotel. It makes the walmart here in town look like a complete dump. We start driving towards the concert and there are people everywhere, but lucky us, they opened up a part of the parking lot across the street from the venue and so we got some pretty dang good parking.  We got in line to get in, they "checked" our purses (I seriously could have snuck my PB m&m's in LOL) and then we got in line to get some souveniours. (I got a very comfy sweatshirt and a hat!!) Next line was food, since we couldn't bring anything in with us, a bottle of water was 5 bucks, as was all soda/lemonade.  We made it up to our seats, only to find out they weren't our seats because they number their stuff funny.  We met a cute little girl who LOVED Garth Brooks and was thrilled to be there.
The concert was getting ready to start and I was checking on my phone to see how much it had recharged, when I noticed a ton of missed calls from my friend Stephanie.  I knew she was at the concert as well and I figured she was just seeing where we were sitting.  I texted her back hi and then got an amazing text from her,  "we have an extra front row seat ticket, do you want it?" .  I asked permission of my other two friends, I felt bad for ditching them, they told me to run, so I left my 5 dollar lemonade and ran!!  It ended up being FRONT ROW CENTER!!!!!  What an amazing experience!!!!!  Stephanies friends had been chatting with one of the guys who works for Garth Brooks and he ended up giving them the tickets for the front and they had an extra one since there were only 3 of them!! Anywhere I would have sat it would have been an amazing concert, but how lucky am I that I was able to be that close and enjoy the show even more?  It was a long concert too!! There were 2 acts in front of him, then he started about 8pm, Trisha came out in the middle and sang a few songs, then Garth came back out and it all finally ended at 1130pm!!  My ears were buzzing, my throat hurt from singing so much and I had a huge smile on my face.  Finding Lisa and Alisa at the end was fun LOL but that worked out because it gave all the crazies time to get out of the parking lot LOL and out of the bathrooms as well.  I am so thankful to have had this amazing experience to to see such an awesome show put on. If you ever have the chance to go to one of his concerts GO!!!!

We got back to our hotel room about midnight and crashed. Up nice and early the next morning for another day of marathon shopping, my feet were soo happy when we got in the car and started driving home LOL But we had tons of fun, found lots of cool places to shop at, fun stuff to buy, had great food!!! (Panera Bread, Olive Garden, Chick Fil A)  Our very last stop of the day was at the same BBQ place we started our trip with, we each took home some yummy food to our sweet husbands.    So thankful that I met and have become friends with these two amazing ladies, they were scared I would be an uptight snooty person and make the trip horrible, good thing for them I was just along for the ride and enjoyed myself LOL

Welcome 2017, catching up

Welcome 2017.  The NM Burger family had a good Christmas Break and have been keeping busy.  One of my goals for this year is to keep up with my blog.  Mostly in part because my kids love the books that I have had printed out that have all the stories and pictures in them from this blog. What a great way to be able to look back and share things with them. The end of the year is always crazy and I honestly can't remember the last time I wrote and actually posted anything on here.

Xanen's marching band won all their competitions that they went to. Both sets of grandparents were able to come and see him perform, which was fun.  They went to Amarillo, Lubbock, Albuquerque, and Las Cruces for their different competitions.  They are gearing up now for their trip to San Antonio TX to perform at SeaWorld and the Alamo. (I'm excited because we are going to go watch them and get to see a bunch of our friends at the same time)   These kids in this band here in Clovis NM put a ton of work into the program.   They start out doing summer camp, the first week is 8 hr days 7 days a week, the next week is 12 hour days 7 days of the week.  When school starts they go for zero hour, and end up doing practice for about 3 hrs every morning, they also have practices after school somedays and on the weekends.  They perform at the football games, which are fun to go to. It is funny to see all the people there cheering on the band and then most leave after the band is done.   Marching band here is not for the faint of heart, but Xanen seems to love it, it has given him a place to belong, something to do that he loves and keeps him out of trouble in a town where there isn't much else to offer him.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zPk5UeF5tI   This one is to the performance that he did as a freshman, (2015)  that year there were so many kids that he was lucky to even be on the field as a freshman.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsAzCeSViyI  this is the 2016 season performance.

We are so proud of him for sticking with it. It makes a lot more work for our family to get him to be where he needs to be, but it is helping to shape him as the amazing kid that he is.  It can be expensive to have a kid in one of these programs, but so worth it.
He has also decided he wants to look into welding as a profession, thankfully the school has a program and he is in the beginning part of it to see if he actually likes it. I hope he does. I think he will be awesome at it.

Brennan: he decided he wanted to try going back to public school (I think I was too boring for him).  He is dong wonderfully and is making friends.  He is growing into his own person and still trying to learn the does and don'ts of some things, unfortunately some people just don't get that he is a normal 12 year old and gets crapped on, sometimes even at church. It is hard to watch him go through that and to see him struggle with it.  I know one day it will be over, because hey, look at his brother who went through the same kind of struggles.   He loves to read, is super smart (if only he would turn in all his homework he would get even better grades), he loves to learn, loves to laugh, loves anything pointy (knives, axes, etc) and learning about them.   We had his friend go with us to the movies and it was fun to hear their banter and know that someone gets all his jokes (I get them, but who wants to have their mom as their only friend at this age LOL )  He does his own laundry and strives to have a clean room (yeah it is never really clean to mom or dads standards, but he is working on it LOL)  What he wants to do in his life changes from day to day,  he loves to cook so thinks maybe a Chef would be fun, he loves to work with things, so maybe welding or a machinist.  I know whatever he ends up doing he will be great at.  Thankful that he is such a great kid.  (I just wish everyone else could see that as well)

Hazel:  4th grade going on 12th, my sweet 10 year old is finding her fashion sense, loves everything makeup, loves anything Harry Potter (reading, wearing, listening, watching), she is a very girly girl. she thinks she is ready to grow up and wants to talk about all the things that come with becoming an older girl, it has been interesting that is for sure.  She loves singing and had a solo at her Christmas program at school and sang with another girl for a program at church. She has a wonderful voice, especially now that she is learning how to use it properly for singing.  She has an ear for the piano and is trying to teach herself some new stuff.  She took lessons for a bit in Okinawa and has used a program here to kind of learn some more stuff with it.  She reads at a more High School level, which sometimes makes it hard to find books for her that are appropriate.  She always has a bag with her wherever she goes, filled to the brim with any treasures she may need or want on whatever adventure we are going on.  I find it a little much when I have to go through her school bag and she has 7 books (in case she gets bored with the one she is reading) 3 notebooks to just doodle in, 10 chapsticks/ lipsticks, what seems like a billion pencils or pens.  (stop laughing my family, I know she is a little me, but I don't remember doing that with my backpack LOL)

Elyse turned 8 this year and with that in our church she got to decide whether she wanted to be baptized or not. She decided to.  We were lucky to have Tom's parents here for the week before the baptism and my parents here for the week after the baptism.  we shared many adventures with them and it was wonderful to have both sets here to celebrate a beautiful day.  She was baptized on a Thursday night, Oct. 20 and we were thankful for our friends who were able to come and for our sweet Sister Elliot who made her a cake (she is in her 80's and has pretty much adopted us).  Elyse struggles with reading a bit and getting things backwards when writing, she has been working hard on this.  I keep asking the teacher for help for her, but nothing really seems to be changing, so Tom and I work worth her here and home a ton and little by little we are seeing improvement.   She loves life, sings and makes up songs, much to the disappointment of her older brothers, she sings VERY loud and hopefully will get to the point where her singing actually sounds like singing and hits the right notes LOL.  I can hear it in there like I did with Hazel, she just hasn't gotten to that point yet.  She loves to do whatever her sister does, they usually play well together and do everything together, sometimes the sister uglies come out and we have to separate them.   She is a little diva and knows how to push her brothers buttons and then cry like she did no wrong, we have caught onto her though, so she is coming up with new ways to get them in trouble. I see the "Grandma Brennan" sparkle in her eyes, the twinkle that says yes I know I am trouble and I love it.

Tom is still serving in the High Priests, as well as a calling as a ward missionary, Boy Scout Council member  and apparently permanent primary sub. (he is my go to guy when people don't show to do their callings).  He has found a love for woodworking and has made a few projects, I just wish we had more space so that it isn't such a chore when he does find the time to be able to go out and do something.  He is busy at work as usual and right now enjoys the people he works with. We shall see what happens when he changes jobs again.  He also loves making modifications to his car and is always looking for something new to do, he calls it his zombie apocalypse car LOL

Me? I am in the Primary presidency for our ward, it keeps me busy and I enjoy working with the kids and the other gals in the presidency.  It is a lot of work and a ton of behind the scenes stuff, especially on Sundays.  I really wish some people would realize just how much it takes out of you LOL I feel like someone ran me over by the time I get home.  I honestly feel right now that I don't get anything out of church, I am just there to make sure that the kids get something out of it.  Sometimes that is hard and takes a toll on a person. I also help out with the PAC  (most places call this the PTA, NM is weird).   I have been asked to help out with part of the spouses group for Tom's work, I am hoping to meet some new ladies and find more people not from our church to hang out with. (don't get me wrong, I love my friends from church, but sometimes it is nice to have a break from it all, I feel like church is all I do). I still have my fabric stash and a pile of all the different crafts I would like to do, someday I will get to them all.  Over all I try to stay sane and try to remember that Heavenly Father sent us to this small town for  a reason.

Hopefully soon I will get on and put on a few pictures of our adventures.  Like going to see Carlsbad Caverns with my parents, seeing Billy the Kids Grave, going to see Phantom of the Opera, seeing concerts and friends, etc.

Halloween

I can't believe it is Halloween today!! We have had such a crazy October that I am happy and sad that it is over at the same time.  Our youngest turned 8 and decided to be baptized, so we had Tom's parents here for a week before the baptism and mine here the week after the baptism. We had a ton of fun with both sets and are grateful that they were able to be here together for her big day.  We also have been through tons of driving to see Xanen perform in marching band competitions. One more to go and then we are done for the season. (I should add that there were quite a few football games in with all of these). Along with my calling in the primary presidency (as of August), which keeps me on my toes and busy, and becoming the PAC treasurer at the girls school and helping out with what I can there, and getting sick on top of all of that, I am tired. A good tired, a happy tired, but tired.  I am hoping to take some time to play catch up on here and share all the things we have been up to. I have been so blessed to having amazing family and friends and am so thankful for all that we have.

June

This year seems to be flying by.  The kids got out of school May 20, that day we started driving on our first leg of our family vacation.  First stop was Tom's parents house in Tucson, AZ.  We got there Friday night, stayed the weekend and left Monday morning.  We were able to see the Desert Museum there in the Saguaro National Forest. It was pretty neat (hot, but neat).  Tom and his dad took the kids to a splash park near their house, I had had enough sun for the day, so I opted to take a nap instead. Sunday took us into a time warp while we attended church with Tom's parents at the Singles Ward. Thank goodness we were only there for the first hour.  They seriously thought that Xanen was there to be a part of their ward!! (He looks older than his 15 yrs that is for sure).  We took a little drive and visited the building site for the Tucson temple.  It is beautiful and I am sure will be well used down there.  Their house is really nice, we enjoyed sitting outside (it was too hot to be inside).  I don't think I could live down there, it is too hot for me and I need grass.
On Monday we headed out with Tom's parents behind us, we met his sister and her family at the Grand Canyon.  It was beautiful to see and the kids really seemed to enjoy looking around. It was fun to hang out with Annalisa and finally meet her husband and cute kiddos.  We ended up driving to St. George in the dark on the very windy roads of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We saw a ton of deer and poor Hazel got sick in the car from the curves. (she has been having trouble with one of her ears and is making car trips horrible for her ).  We made it to St George at 1230am.  After getting in that late we opted to stay the day in St George and site see with Tom's parents and his sisters family.  We went to the Brigham Young Winter Home, The Tabernacle, the Temple, visited the church book store, ate at Cafe Rio (wasn't that great), got cookies at Swig, had milkshakes and fries at the Iceburg, visited the park downtown for the kids to play and for us to meet up with friends.  We tried to visit my grandmother at her home, but the times we stopped she wasn't there, instead she found out we were there and kind of ambushed us at the park when we were meeting our friends. That worked out, there was a big group of us and we all got to chat.  Our friends from Okinawa met us there at the park and it was so good to see Tarina and her family and get to catch up.  After saying our goodbyes we headed back to the hotel and got a little sleep so that we could get back on the road the next morning.

Wednesday started out nice and early, we headed north through Salt Lake City towards Rexburg ID.  We of course stopped at In and Out Burger for lunch on the way. (still as good as always).  In Rexburg we drove around and showed the kids where we lived and looked at how much the town has grown and changed since Tom and I went to school there.  It was fun to see all the things that were there and remember all the good times I had there.  We met up with one of our favorite Oki kids (Nick)  and his new Wife. Their apartment reminded me of our first apartment, it was fun to get to chat with them for a bit and then we took them out to dinner at Frontier Pies (still looks exactly the same inside and the food was still amazing! Especially the PB pie!!). After leaving them we headed to Ammon ID to stay with some of our Oki family for the night, the Fryars. It was wonderful to get to see them. We were so blessed to have so many good friends in Okinawa and I just love visiting with them.  They took us to Orange Leaf for some very yummy frozen yogurt and so that we could see Emi working there.  Their house is beautiful and I loved it.

We got up early (yet again) and headed out the next morning for our last stop for a bit, we got home to Yakima about 4pm. It always feels wonderful driving into the Valley and seeing all the places that I grew up with. The first thing we did was go to my nephews band concert and then DQ afterwards for a treat.

Friday was Tom's 40th birthday!!  We celebrated by having a little family dinner of Papa Murphy's pizza and apple pie. My parents, grandparents and Tom's brothers family came.  It was fun to just sit and chat.

Saturday brought fun in Packwood WA,  we went to their bianual flea market. It takes over the entire town during Memorial and Labor Day weekends.  Tons of vendors, tons of good food and LOTS of walking. We got there at 9 am and left at 7pm.  We went with my parents and we had a blast.  My parents and grandparents each gave each kid some spending money, so the kids had fun being able to spend their money.  I think Hazel found the best deal of the day when she bought an old Mickey Mouse watch for $1 (we went and got a watch battery for $5 and it works perfectly!!).  I was happy eating all the good food, homemade fries with Johnny Seasoning salt on them, elephant ears, frozen cheesecake on a stick dipped in chocolate, frozen bananas, tacos, kettle corn, lemonaide!  I was in heaven.

Sunday was church, it is always fun to go to church and see the people I grew up with, it feels more like home than most wards I am in. We had family home evening that night with the parents and grandparents, they are using the Living Christ as their guide for what their lessons are on. It was nice to sit and chat with them.

On Memorial Day we helped mom and dad a bit with the garden, the girls were at grandma and poppops house.  We took the boys to see the new Xmen movie with Dad, Chuck and Diana. It was really good, I think everyone enjoyed it and I think Mom enjoyed a little quiet at home.  We picked up the girls and then headed to Chuck and Diana's for dinner.

Tuesday
Wednesday went to the quilt shop with Mom and then met everyone for lunch at the Stop and Go. (Elyse kept telling us that she wanted to go to the place with the really big ice creams and the part, only Mom knew what she was talking about). Visited Bimart and a few other places. Xanen went with Jaxon and Phebe to a swim party for church, Brennan stayed the night at Grandma and Poppops house
Thursday Mom's Birthday
Friday- Girls Movie time, went to see Me before You at the theatre with Trin, mom and Grandma.  kids swimming at Kristen's, Dad made dinner in the dutch oven
Saturday trip to Costco for goodies for the drive back, met Mom and Dad at the "dog shack" for some really good mexican food. Went out to Chuck and Diana's for dinner.
Sunday church, visited with Angela, Christine and families, family home evening

Monday, started the long drive home with one less kid. Brennan stayed in WA with my parents for a month. (I sure do miss that kid). We drove to Boise and stopped at Panera Bread for lunch. Kept driving and got to the top of SLC and stopped for In and Out for dinner and then checked out the Super Target close by. We made to to Price UT and stayed at the Super 8 there for the night.

Tuesday drove through some beautiful and not so beautiful country (you can sure tell when you have crossed into NM that is for sure.  We stopped in at the Hole N the Rock outside of Moab UT.  It is a man made cave that a family made, first they used it for a diner and then made more room for a house. It was interesting to stop and see. (Xanen didn't want to go in, he opted to hang out with the dog outside).  We made it home to Clovis about 9pm.  Alburqurque was crazy as usual and thank goodness I was paying attention, the car in front of us barely had any tail lights and we nearly were in an accident. (I hate driving in big cities). We drove through a huge thunder, lightening, rain, hail, torrential downpour for the last part of our trip. It was a bit nuts. Jasper was so happy to see us when we walked through the door. He had actually gained weight, so the girl watching him did a great job.  It was so nice to be back in our beds!!

Tom didn't have to be back for a few days, so we spend some time getting groceries, visiting the library, etc.  On Thursday I had some ladies over for the kids to play and Tom and a few other husbands went shooting. It was perfect and he had a blast. (well besides them all saying Xanen was trying to kill them all LOL)  We had fun with the water/lunch playdate, and it was nice to catch up with my friends.

May 2016

Where is all the time going? It is already May and I feel like it has just been a whirlwind of crazy.  Nothing of big note, just crazy busy!  Tom seems to be doing well at his new job, lots of paperwork and leg work. We shall see how he feels when the new boss takes completely over.
The kids are all doing well. Band season is winding down, just in time to have a short break before marching band season to start up. Xanen is excited for that, me not so much, it is a lot of driving for me.  Brennan is doing well with homeschooling, but has decided he wants to go back to school next year. I pray that it will be better for him.  Hazel is her crazy busy self as usual, she is one smart kid and always has a book and a few projects with her (yup, just like me). Elyse has enjoyed her little dates with Tom and I at school for donuts with Dad and Muffins with Mom, she is growing like a weed and her sense of humor is getting to where the rest of us can understand it. Her reading is way better than it was, but she still has a bit to go. We will be having her tested next year so that she can get the extra reading help she needs. Amazingly she does fantastic when we are reading our scriptures together.
Last month we went to Palo Duro Canyon in Texas with some families from our ward for the ward camp out. It was beautiful!!! We did a little hike, but poor Tom did not fair well on it. He just can't do all the things he used to with his knee the way it is. We of course were minutes from Amarillo, so we went to Target and Chick fil A before heading back to Clovis. (it's the little things).  The boys are working hard on their scout stuff, it has been fun to see them learn new things and be excited about it. Some of the merit badges they find extra boring, but hey they are still learning right?
I started a little quilt group with some ladies in our ward, we are making rag time quilts, so far I have made 2 and have another cut out. One is for me and the other two are presents.  It gives me an excuse and reason to actually be creative.  I have other projects going as well, trying to make sure that I actually finish them LOL.
The girls and I have been going to a hula class, they are loving it, I usually exercise while they learn and then join in for a bit in the end.  They have their first performance next week, I hope that they are ready for it.
I got to teach in RS last week (Tom had to teach for High Priests and Elders Quorum).  I really enjoyed the lesson I came up with, I made it extremely interactive.  I barely had to talk, which is fine with me, but we got to learn a little bit about each other and peoples experiences.

  I am a Mormon Woman.

Even though teaching is not my favorite, I did enjoy doing that one. At least I don't have to teach the rest of the year.

We are counting down the days to when the kids get out of school and we are able to go and visit family. I am very ready for a break, I love the people here, but I need to see some mountains and some green.  We have quite a few fun things planned to do and I hope the kids enjoy it all.
