St George 2011

Brooks and I took off for St George for a few quick days to get away from our cold weather here in Cache Valley. We went mainly to play some golf and relax but with our great luck, we were only able to play one day. We did get to see a few movies that we have been wanting to see since we never go when we're home. We ate a lot of good food and some not so good food and did a little shopping. I could have shopped more but it's not Brooks most favorite thing to do so we compromised.

For some strange reason, Brooks loves to get the car washed while we are in St George and this year was no different. He not only got it washed twice, he also had it detailed and then took it to be serviced! Because of the detail job, we had to drive home with the floor mats piled on top of our stuff and keep paper under our shoes. When we got to Logan on Saturday, Brooks had the car washed for the third time after driving home through the storms. Just a little obsessive? Possibly.

I thought I would give you a rating on the movies we saw while there. We saw three movies and our favorite of the three was "Unstoppable". We are probably the last to see this but we both loved it! Our next choice was "Unknown". This was just released and it was very good with a couple of twists that you are not expecting. Our last choice was "True Grit". This was good but a little slow and wouldn't be my first choice if you want a good movie and don't go very often.

Here are about the only pictures I took of our trip. I thought the contrast of the mountains were striking! I took this while we were golfing.
We had to drive our ball across this ravine to the green. I made it over but the way back was longer and I couldn't make it. Still fun even with a few lost balls.

He looks pretty happy. I warned him how white his legs were.

Three Funerals and a Ward Party!

You've possibly heard of the movie titled "Four Weddings and a Funeral"? I've never seen the movie so I don't know if it's anything like our last few weeks.

About two weeks ago my uncle died. He was older and was loosing his quality of life and so it really wasn't a sad thing for the family. His daughter (my cousin) was here from out of state to help care for him along with her other siblings. His wife, my Aunt and my mothers sister, was living in an extended care facility. The unique thing about this whole story is that his funeral was to be last Wednesday and on the morning of, about twenty minutes before his funeral was to start, the family was notified that his wife (my aunt) had just passed away. The only way for the timing to have been better was for this to have happened just a little earlier so the two funerals could have been together. So my Uncles funeral was on Wed and then followed by my Aunts on Sat. This was a very special and spiritual time for the family.

Soon after I got word that my Aunt had died, we also got word that Brooks uncle had passed away from cancer. This was expected but more difficult because his life was cut short. He will be missed! His funeral was the following Monday.

Right smack in the middle of all of our funerals, we had a ward party scheduled! It was on the Saturday of my Aunts funeral. I helped Brooks set up for the movie and pick up food and then I took off for the funeral while Brooks stayed for the Ward Party. Those that attended the party had a great time but not many came. What we had originally planned didn't work out because we didn't have any snow so we just kind of threw it all together. We will learn and plan better for the next one and hopefully have better attendance.

Valentines Day

I hope everyone had a nice valentines day. Here are a few random pictures from my week.

Jax and Bryn(Dora) playing the Wii. Molly now calls Brynly "Dora".
Molly came on Saturday for me to babysit her for the day. When she got here, grandpa was sleeping. Molly hasn't been grandpa's biggest fan lately but this day was different. Molly decided she wanted to sleep along side grandpa.

I got some beautiful bright coral colored roses for valentines day from my thoughtful husband!

New Blog

Jaxon and I have created a new blog for him. As you may know, it is private. We did not create this blog for him to just have fun jotting down his thoughts and yes, we realize he is very young. The reason for his blog originally was good, now we'll just have to see what happens.

Jaxon is in first grade and is reading. Although he reads words just fine, he struggles with comprehension. We do not believe this is because of his accident. There are many factors as to the why and we are only interested in helping him. A good friend and former elementary school teacher suggested a number of things that could be done to help Jax to comprehend better. One of the suggestions was to get Jaxon to write his own stories. We have (especially Kara) been doing this with Jax and have seen an almost immediate improvement with comprehension! I thought it would help to reinforce his desire and success with an offer for him to put it all into print and to then print it all into a book. Hence the blog.

We want him protected since he is so young and this is why it is private. It may fail. He was pretty excited at first until it took me a while to get it up and so in time we'll see. I just wanted to explain our motives in case someone was thinking that we were all crazy.
