Best Practise: Sculpting with Glues for Nurgle Conversions

Inspiration is always a driving factor in my quest to explore new techniques in modeling and painting.  I'm constantly inspired by the new plastics that GW is releasing.  However, they don't come cheap so to balance out my addiction for new plastic, I'm always searching for inspirations that are also cheap.  Time is also scarce these days so speedy techniques are also inspiring to me.

I've always been shocked by the painting quality and speed of the most prolific artists on CMON and around the blogosphere.  It seems logical that the people making a business out of commissions would have some of the best techniques.  The key is spreading the knowledge.

Hobby Progress: Nids and O&G

Hobby progress over the past few weeks has reached a snail's pace as I've jumped into a kitchen remodel. With a little bit of time here and there, I've been plugging away at my Savage Orcs, but I've hit a bit of a wall. I'm not satisfied with my current method for painting bone. Here's what I've been doing lately: Paint the bone area w/ Bleached Bone --> hit the area with Agrax Earthshade --> pick out details with Bleached Bone. Simple, I know. I've been doing it for a while now, but it looks too dirty, and not up the the level the rest of the model is (at least I think so). Below is a picture of how it turns out.

I suppose it doesn't look bad, but I just felt a little bit disheartened when it didn't turn out the way I wanted. Also, I have around 50 guys to do this to. It's a little discouraging when you have a pile of dudes to paint and you aren't 100% on how you want to do them. How do you guys do Bone?

Anyway, below the fold I'll show off my Savage Orc Hero, and a couple of Tyranid projects that I've been working on the fight the Orc burnout.

March Blog Update & CSM Rebuild Update

March was an exciting month for the Mandulian Chapel.  We saw our 300th post and brought our 5th author on board.  Crimthaan (Andy) posted yesterday's article and will be a resident Space Marine player and fluff enthusiast.  Now that we have five authors, it will be our goal to get in one article per day Monday through Friday.  Our content will span from fluff to theory/mathammer, terrain, painting, converting, and battle reports.  Together, we share a deep passion and respect for the hobby and the desire to share our thoughts and discuss our experiences.  I hope you enjoy the additional content!

Building City Ruins pt 2

In my last post I walked through the steps of cutting up white and pink foam and building out the shapes of walls and debris. I glued the foam pieces in place and let the glue set for 24 hours. In this post I am going to show you how to bring your city walls and ruins to life.

Its a jungle out there... or is it?

Hi, my name is Kevin (aka grubnards on various 40k boards) and Hyv3 asked if I would like to contribute to the Mandulian Chapel. Since I make a lot of terrain, tinker with conversions, and generally try to get creative with my models I figured I would write a series of article dealing with terrain.

Themed terrain can add new levels to your game.

Tyranid Conversions

A couple of weeks ago the rumor mill was saying that the highly anticipated flyer release was imminent. While I’m always excited to see new minis hit the shelves, especially the long awaited Harpy, I’m pretty sure that the rumor of a flyer release has been around every month for the last few years. I wasn’t too disappointed when I saw that next month’s release would be Warriors of Chaos, but it got me thinking about some of the conversions that I’ve made for the Tyranid units that didn’t have an initial release. Here are some of my conversions.
