The show celebrates Brazilian Bossa Nova and Latin music, blending samba, tropical jazz, and classic rhythms inspired by artists such as Sergio Mendes, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Carmen Miranda, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, and Celia Cruz. (Mon, Aug 24, 8pm) Artur Meneses (Blues-Rock) at Maui Sugar Mill Saloon located at 18389 Ventura Blvd in Tarzana. Catch a live set by this Brazilian-born blues-rock singer and guitarist. based in Los Angeles, California. He has released six albums since 2010, with the most recent EP, AM/FM, being released by Black Hill Records. American magazine Guitar Player said about Menezes: “His playing is a distinctive blend of fiery, hard-rocking blues that at times borders on shred, combined with an ability to effortlessly switch gears into swinging, jazz grooves.
(Sat. Aug 29, 2026 at 6:00pm) Grand Performance Finale presents Afro-Brazilian Bloco Obini, Son Rope Pera, and QVLN, a mix night of Brazilian and latino music. This long-awaited show will serve as the grand finale for the 40th summer season. To close out the night, Son Rompe Pera will astound audiences with their energetic brand of cumbia. (Thurs, Sept 10 at 8pm) The Sergio Mendes (60 Years of Brasil’s 66) at Regent Theater located at 448 Main Street, Los Angeles. A massive anniversary performance by the legendary bossa nova icon band, and now leader by Sergio Mendes wife Gracinha Leporace. This is a rescheduled event from September 4. (October 9–11) The International Samba Queen & King Competition returns with workshops, performances, and cultural immersion in Brazilian samba. Participants will train with renowned instructors including Nilce Fran, Kellyn Rosa, Karla Moreno, Wallace, Gustavo Siqueira, Marcio Rei do Giro, and Angelique Starks. Registration is now open for this experience celebrating samba technique, performance, and Carnival culture.
(Sun, Nov 8 at 11am) Formula 1, Brazilian Grand Prix Live at Trademark Brewing in Long Beach. For those fanatics of auto racing, watch the Brazilian Ground Prix with SOUND ON. Doors open one hour before the green flag. Outside food is welcome, however outside beverages are not permitted. Pitchers of beer are available during the race, TVs everywhere! Family friendly and free parking is available with 100+ spaces.

(Sat, Aug 15 at Noon) Santa Barbara Elks LoFri to Sun, Oct 2 to 4 at 10am, Avocado Festivadge 613 Music Fest is celebrating 125 years of serving the local community with an open-air festival on its grounds – FREE! Live music plays on two stages, while food and drink come from the lodge’s BBQ crew and a wine, beer, and spirits garden. Some 30 vendors sell crafts and local goods, and there’s a hands-on crafts station for kids. Proceeds support charities for veterans and children with disabilities.
(Sat, Aug 15) Ferragosto in L.A, FREE! Italy’s midsummer celebration of food, family, and community comes to Culver City with a lively street fair hosted by Pasta Sisters. Browse stalls selling gelato, cheese, salumi, and olive oil, then stop by the beer garden or catch a pasta-making demo. A DJ and live band keep the party going, while kids can hit the face-painting station, photo booth, and craft tables.
(Tues, Aug 18) Moonlights on the Beach presents FREE film on the sand in Long Beach! Summer is rife with outdoor movie-screening options from rooftops to cemeteries. That’s in addition to the year-round options at the Paramount Drive-In. But nothing beats watching a movie on the sand with the sound of lapping waves nearby. Bring a blanket or low chairs and a picnic dinner (or purchase food from the food trucks on-site) and sing your heart out at the Grease sing-along at Granada Beach.
(Fri to Sun, Aug 28-30) Fiesta La Ballona at Veterans Memorial Park in Culver City, CA. Admission to the three-day community festival is FREE and features live music in two stages featuring regional bands from salsa to spanning rock and local dance troups; carnival rides and food vendors – including Brazilian catering Sabor da Bahia, beer and wine garden. (SAT-MON, Sep 5–7) Fiesta Hermosa in Hermosa Beach, returning for Labor Day Weekend. The longtime South Bay tradition comes back with a refreshed, more locally focused edition featuring the Makers Mercado, Love Local Stage, The Garden, Food Fair, and Mini Carnival. Expect three days of beach-town energy, local shopping, live music, food, and plenty of reasons to spend the holiday weekend by the coast.
(Sat, Sept 19) Central Avenue Jazz Festival, FREE! Los Angeles played an essential role in the development of 20th-century jazz. Musicians like Dexter Gordon and Eric Dolphy grew up around Central Avenue, while legends like Art Tatum and Jelly Roll Morton were drawn to the area by its wealth of live performance opportunities and recording industry presence. This annual festival pays tribute to that golden era with stages outside of the still-standing Dunbar Hotel, which once served as home base for visiting artists like Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton.
(Fri to Sun, Aug 21 to 23) Super Girl Surf Festival, FREE! Summer would not be complete in Oceanside without surf competitions, but few are as big as this one. It’s billed as the world’s largest female surfing event, and more than 150 surfers will be catching waves. The festival features other competitive sports, including volleyball and flag football, plus networking through workshops and a speaker panel. In honor of the festival’s 20th anniversary, about 20 bands and artists will perform at the Junior Seau Amphitheater. Oceanside Pier.
(Sat, Aug 22) KPBS San Diego Book Festival, FREE! From the quaint beachside bookshops like Artifact in Encinitas and Jane & Evie’s in Oceanside to the funky unpredictability of North Park’s Verbatim and Hillcrest’s Bluestocking, there are many places in greater San Diego County for bookworms. This second annual festival brings a slate of authors, entertainers, and booksellers to the USD campus for a celebration of the printed word.
(Sat & Sun, Sept 26–27 at 10am) Lemon Festival in the Girsh Park, Goleta – FREE! Lemons might not be the kind of fruit you pluck from a tree and bite into, but they’re one of the most versatile accents in cuisines around the world. Whether squeezed over fish or baked into a tart, lemons have transformative powers. This annual festival’s pie-eating contest, classic car show, locally made lemon ale and wine, and live performances ensure a weekend of citrus-themed delights.
(Fri-Sun, Oct 2 to 4, 10am) Avocado Festival in Carpinteria – FREE! Expect 60 bands across three stages during three days of festival! This is one of the largest free music festivals in California. The lineup spans original rock, country, folk, and cover bands. This year, the festival celebrates 40 years on the coast in Carpinteria, a city whose avocado industry has thrived for nearly 100 years. The event opens on Friday with a block party and continues on Saturday and Sunday with arts, crafts, and commercial vendors; food vendors; and more than a dozen nonprofits. All proceeds go to the Carpinteria Education Foundation and the Future Farmers of America.
(Sat & Sun, Oct 17 and 18 at 10am) Pismo Beach Clam Festival – FREE! The traditional festival is celebrating 80 years of shucking, and kicks off with a parade on Saturday morning, ending at Pier Plaza, where live bands perform, vendors hawk goods, and kids jump in bounce houses. Commercial and food vendors, a beer garden, bounce houses, the Kids Clam Rescue (an interactive learning experience for children of all ages), and a ticketed clam chowder cook-off round out the two-day fest.

(Fri-Sun, Sept 25 to 27) The 2026 Ohana Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California. Curated by Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam band), this three-day, all-ages festival features rock, indie, and alternative music alongside pro surfing demos and environmental advocacy. By the time we published this festival the line up was not announced, but usually features high-caliber rock/alternative acts, and a pretty cool vibe!

Every Summer one of the greatest things in California is the Free Outdoor and Indoor Music Series in different venues/locations in the golden state – live music and dance FREE to the public is offered during the whole summer every year. Here bellow we cover mostly of these events in Southern California – or at least the best ones!
LOS ANGELES COUNTY
The Summer Sessions Free Outdoor Concert at the Getty Center in L.A – Each year the series presents a diverse lineup of musical talents, many of whom mix and match musical traditions and genres. The series showcased a myriad of musical styles, from hip-hop, blues, and rock, to Latin boogaloo, Afro-Peruvian jazz, Mexican cabaret, merengue, electronic beats, Indian rhythms, and even Algerian trance music. All concerts are free and no reservations are needed. Concerts take place from 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center. www.getty.edu
Summer Series Culver City Music Festival – The Culver City re-development agency and the City of Culver City Presents every year the Annual Culver City Summer Sunset Music Festival. Listen to a mix of Jazz, Samba, Bluegrass, 60’s Rock and World Music at the Culver City Hall Courtyard. Bring a blanket, chairs and a picnic basket and get ready to dance the night away with your family and friends! Summer Series at Fisherman’s Village – Located in beautiful Marina Del Rey in L.A area, Fisherman’s Village offers Saturday concerts from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Summer Series at Burton Chace Park – The Free Marina del Rey Summer Concerts are held in a beautiful waterside setting at Burton Chace Park. The series features Thursday evening classical concerts showcasing the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony, with Frank Fetta, conductor and guest soloists. On alternate weeks, Saturday pop concerts star celebrated musical entertainers. You are welcome to bring a picnic basket full of your favorite foods! Summer Series at Pershing Square – Pershing Square is an outdoor concert and event center located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It hosts an array of free programs for the downtown community such as Swingin’ Wednesday, Lunchtime Concerts and Salsa Sundays. Summer Series at Japanese American National Museum – Located in Little Tokyo near Downtown Los Angeles, the Japanese American National Museum is proud to present the 1st & Central Summer Concerts. Summer Series at California Plaza – Grand Performances presents free performing arts that reflect the best of global culture and inspire community among the diverse peoples of Los Angeles. The Summer Series at Los Angeles County Museum of Art – LACMA, have admission-free jazz concerts that are presented on the Los Angeles Times Central Court usually between 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. These events feature the art of jazz as practiced by outstanding jazz artists from Los Angeles and elsewhere. The museum has so many things to do at no charge and is really fun for the whole family! www.lacma.org It is located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, between Fairfax and La Brea. Summer Series at Hollywood & Highland – Hollywood and Highland presents Wine & Jazz Tuesdays in the Central Courtyard. City of Beverly Hills “Summer Nights” – The city of Beverlly Hills offer the Concerts on Canon summer season which kicks off in 2024 with Pride Night!
