Missing Ah Po :)

The grief of loss is the price we pay for the gift of love. - Josh Groban.  Saw this quote in Josh Groban's instagram post when he lost his old dog, Sweeney.  I find it soooo true.  I'm grieving the loss of Ah Po because of the love we shared.  In fact, it's probably the stronger the love, the deeper the grief.  This gave me new eyes and heart to allow and welcome the grief, because it's only the proof of something precious I have and treasure, i.e the love :)  So, the grief of loss is the price we pay for the gift of love.  If I have to do it again, I'll give my all to love again. I'm willing to pay the price again.  And I'm learning to be thankful for both because they only make me human.  Two days ago I made this dish while missing Ah Po - three layered pork with fermented bean curds (Furu) and fucuk.  She used to make this when I was little.  I wasn't a big fan of it because it's sweet, but it just reminds me of her.  Her t...

Gratitude Day 8

1. Thank God my off day fell on a public holiday so I can be home when my sister is home (I barely see her when I'm working) and our whole family can have dinner together.  Also thank God for a good boss who didn't request me to go back work today because it was a busy day. 2. Thank God I'm healthy where I can cook for my family and help out with chores around the house. 3. Thank God for the cool comfy rainy weather. 4. Thank God Ah Po still can walk on her own and go out with us.  Thank God for good parking spaces whenever I bring Ah Po out.  I KNOW these are NOT coincidence. 5. Thank God parents back from Marudi trip safely and heard stories of how they had a good time there. 6. Thank God for parents' close friends esp Uncle Choo Sin and Uncle De Xin family who occassionally drop by our place to hang out with my parents and giving us lots of joy and laughter and good company. 7. Thank God for my cosy craft room and the quiet evening where I can have some q...

Baked Chicken Tonight~!

I worked opening shift today and got to get home early. And so I took the opportunity to cook dinner. As for dinner, I decided to cook something light and healthy - baked chicken and vegetables. When I told one of my partners at work today, he, being a culinary grad, suggested that I baked it with Mirepoix to give the chicken better texture. He got me really inspired~! ^^ And so I prepared the Mirepoix - 60% onions, 20% carrots and 20% celeries. Chopped and laid a layer on the baking pan. Chicken marinated with mixed herbs, soya sause, ground black pepper and olive oil. The chicken is added on top of the Mirepoix and set to baked under 220 degC for 15 minutes (turning after 8 minutes) While waiting for the chicken to bake. I prepared the vegetables. Expecting the corn and potato to take longer time to cook, I boiled them first to get them half cook. And the chicken almost done. I added in the vegetables on top of the chicken and bake for another 8-10 minutes. During the...

蜜瓜希米露 Honey Dew Sai Mai Lou

Been wanting to make this dessert for family since I came back. I learnt it from my house mate when I was studying in New Zealand. Brought the recipe back home and my family has loved it ever since. The steps are a bit mafan but all simple. Ingredients shown as picture below :) And how to put the Sai Mai Lou together ^^ And grandma came for dinner today. Too bad she's coughing and can't eat though :( But mum made an awesome dinner and grandma loves EVERY dish cooked. ^^

Breakfast @ Pandan

Last night dinner we has a lot of eggs left over. So I thought of making some not-so-french toast for breakfast this morning. This is a common breakfast my parents used to make when I was a kid, making me miss my family when I make and eat them. Using my phone, I took a picture of some brothers and sister having breakfast (without them noticing) haha. Oh ya, some of you might wonder where this is. This is the hall where we have our service in Pandan Church. Due to inconvenience going to church in KL, brothers and sisters from the youth fellowship normally stay overnight in church. On Saturday evenings, one of us will cook dinner and Sunday morning's, we normally have bread or maggie. Nothing so special about the food, but I guess its the enjoyment of fellowship and company of each other that makes us come back again week after week. Not-so-French Toast Recipe (if anyone interested): Ingredients 1 loaf of bread 3-4 eggs (depend on the size) Milk (approx. 1/4 cup) Sugar (approx 2 tb...
