Kids and cake and presents, oh my!

*fyi: the pictures loaded backwards, so the picture I wanted last is the first. Oh well, enjoy.

He did end up blowing out the candle on his own.

Garrett and Caleb

Mary Glen and Canon

My big 2-year-old boy! (Daddy forgot to tuck in his undershirt. It was from his first birthday, hence the onesie snaps.)

Owen enjoying the spread.

Before the big party began.

Curious George cake!! It was delish!

I cannot believe Garrett is 2! Even as I watched him play tonight, I just couldn't believe it. This afternoon, along with ours and Garrett's friends, we celebrated his second birthday. Our house is empty and we are staying with friends so we had the party at one of our post community centers. It was great, lots of room for the kiddos to run. We only had two hiccups: a) we lost 4 Curious George balloons to the palatial ceiling in the lobby area and b) the Sprite blew up on me as I opened it! So fun!

Happy Birthday Party Day, Garrett!

Our baby's 2!

December 11, 2009

So, here's the then and now. He was being so cute this morning while watching Curious George. Right now he's being a bit of a grump. So far I've gotten him to say something that resembles "happy birthday" but I'm not sure he fully gets it.

So, Garrett, sweet-boy...Happy 2nd Birthday!! We love you!

Whole lot of movin' going on

A rocker, his guitar and a nanny walk in...
Oh, you've probably heard that one before.

Papa Barkley and Garrett at a Fall Festival in Beaumont.

Garrett really liked Grandma Seholm's piano.

I apologize for not keeping up with the blog lately. The past month has been nuts. We made a trip to Texas to drop the dogs off ith the Seholms and Barbara, Garrett and I made a viit to Hood to check out housing. Mom came back with Garrett and I a few weeks later. Mom was here for Garrett's official first Halloween which was an experience!

Erik and I have been getting the house ready for the movers to come...which is SO surreal. It's bittersweet...being able to go somewhere new, somewhere near family, but at the same time we've grown to love the people here. This was Erik and I's first home together. I'm excited about being back in Texas, but will miss our friends dearly!

It's just so strange to be leaving. :)

A weekend in Chi-town

Erik and I on the roof-top terrace of our friend's condo.
downtown Chicago

with our friend Andy at his condo

Navy Pier

Garrett posed for the picture.

From the old SNL skit.

my pumpkin

He had a blast...

I put the wrong picture up...the one I meant to put up had me smiling...

pickin' apples

We went up to Chicago to visit Andrea and Patrick this weekend. We always have such a blast when we visit them. On Saturday and Sunday, we went to their favorite apple orchard / pumpkin farm, Kuiper's Family Farm; went to Navy Pier; downtown Chicago; had THE best Chicago pizza, Giordano's; meet up with my friend, Andy (from my music biz days) and checked out his new condo. The other fun event included Garrett mastering the art of escaping his pack-n-play...long story which now includes him escaping his crib (insert loud thud). Oh boy…

Oh so thankful...

It's not quite Thanksgiving, only barely Fall but I had to share these pictures I took of Garrett this afternoon. Granted I'm the momma so I'm more enamored with my child than my audience, but he's just so darn cute!

Garrett's hero...Curious George

My smiley boy at lunch.

The pumpkin a local artist carved for each of the kids.

Water boy

"Mamaa" - his favorite word

George's rocket!

My camera was too slow, so you can't see Garrett's true reaction.

This was one excited little boy...Garrett that is, not Erik. Although Erik was pretty excited too. :)

It's George, or "Gege" as Garrett says

Curious George and Curious Garrett

Dad, let me down so I can go play...

Garrett was obsessed with this elevator. He was throwing elbows (I hate to say) when other kids tired to play with it. Needless to say he loves elevators.

Visiting CGs apartment building

The monkey of the moment.

Disclaimer: You must know first: Garrett l-o-v-e-s Curious George. Here are the pictures from the Curious George Exhibit at the Magic House (St. Louis Children's Museum).

We've known about this exhibit since about March and it just opened this past weekend. Garrett had a great time. And as parents, it was fun to see him enjoy something so much.

Garrett's second reaction to CG.

His first reaction...sorry they loaded backwards...

Home Sweet Texas Home

Erik got his newest assignment and we're headed back to Texas. We don't have all the details yet but know we should be back in this beautiful State by the end of the year! We can't wait!!

Tan-Tar-A weekend

Our family on the pontoon boat we rented with two other families.

Garrett fell asleep on me during the boat ride. Protecting my baby from the cold.

You'll notice the grip he has on that Froot Loops box, even while sleeping.

Captain Erik skippering the boat.

Erik, Garrett and our friends son, Joseph (he was quite taken with Erik)

This past weekend, as a family, we went to Tan Tar A Resort for a marriage retreat in Osage Beach, MO. It was a free weekend (food, lodging, CHILDCARE!!!!!) We had a wonderful time.

Our handyman!

My mother (Nana Sue) bought Garrett a tool set recently complete with tool belt, hard hat, etc. It's become one of his recent favorites! Hopefully one day he will be good at making something other than messes!! :)

Take me out to the ballgame...

Me and a player I don't remember.

The All-Stars game was played in STL this year and Erik really wanted a picture in front of the sign.

I'm not sure how this one ended up in b&w. Sometimes Garrett plays with the camera and we never know what he actually does to it.

Oddly enough, there was just enough space between the wall and my seat for Garrett's stroller, so little man had his own (reclining) seat!

Our view.

Score board at Busch Stadium

Not a huge fan of the peanuts.

Family photo op!

CPT Smith, Arvidas (our friend and foreign officer from Lithuania) and Erik. Arvidas brought the scarf he wears to sports games in his country. This was his first baseball game, he had a blast!

The Seholms at the Cardinals vs. Padres game!

Saturday was military/Fort Leonard Wood Appreciation Day at Busch Stadium. We had a wonderful day and Garrett did suprisingly well considering he didn't take any naps. We hope to make it to one more game before our time in Missouri comes to a close (hopefully!!!) I think the Seholms love baseball!!
