Best Movies of 2007

Since the end of the year is approaching I thought I would start a 'Best Of' series to add to the blog. For some reason it seems like we went to the movies more this year than normal. Now if you know me you know that it takes a lot for the 'Wood to get into my wallet so without any further introduction I present the 5 best movie going experiences of 2007.

5 - The Golden Compass

We saw this with Erinne's parents and Jake and Olivia. Definitely one to get you thinking and also a great fantasy film that is not just a Lord of the Rings clone.

4 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (IMAX 3-D)

I took Jake and Liv to see this at the 3-D IMAX theater and we all loved it. Erinne is the real HP freak of the family and ended up seeing it 3-4 times. I think this one is my favorite so far.

3 - Nancy Drew

I took Olivia to see this as a Daddy/Daughter movie time and although I was expecting it to be painful we both had a great time. Nothing wrong with a little Girl power....

2 - The Bourne Ultimatum

We tried to revive the Garfield Dinner and a Movie tradition with this film and we more or less pulled it off. While the dinner was not that great the movie was one of the best of the year.

1 - The King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters

Hands down the best movie of 2007. It had it all...drama...comedy and some serious flashback enducing video game footage. Me and Erinne saw this at the Broadway as part of our first annual double feature date night. If you haven't caught this one I highly recommend you check it out on DVD.

ENCHANTED-The Movie

It was a Girls Night Out this evening. Together with Olivia, mom, JoJo, aunt Wendy, Laurie (an old friend from elementary school), Bev, Keigan, Audrey and Kendyl, we saw the 7.30pm showing of Disney's "Enchanted" at the Junction in Ogden. Overall, it was a pretty good movie. It got a lot of chuckles from Audrey. Everytime Prince Edward, aka James Marsden, came on the screen, Audrey just started to laugh. After the movie was over, Bev agreed with Audrey on the hilarity of Prince Edward, though Audrey was laughing so loud it was hard to hear anyone else. It was a nice, little refreshing show and perfect for us to go see. Next Girls Night Out movie..."Alvin and the Chimpmunks". But I think I'll be sick that day; I can already feel it coming on.
Speaking of movies, I'm looking forward to "The Golden Compass" (and for all you who may have seen the article by the Christian something-or-other-league about it being anti-Christianity, read the books first!!!) and "Sweeney Todd". Anyone out there wanting to see Johnny Depp go crazy in the kitchen in ST?

Get With the System

Erinne is not really that thrilled that I have taken to the new Seal album. It is not my typical kind of music and I am not sure if I have ever owned any of his previous material but I am liking this one. High points include:

  • Just Like Before

  • If It's In My Mind, It's On My Face
Not so great:

  • Wedding Day (Duet with Heidi)
Anyway if you want to test drive it let me know.

Rating: 3.5/5

Guitar Hero

Well I bought Guitar Hero III a few days ago and me and the kids have been playing it non stop. This is the first of the series that is available for the Wii so it was the first time playing it almost all of us (Jake says he has played it at a friends house before).

There is something about the game that brings out the rock in you and the next thing you know you are doing scissor kicks off of the coffee table. It has also been great for introducing some of the classics to the kids and it warms my heart to hear Olivia humming One around the house. Some of my other favorites include:

I caught Erinne trying to get a jam going but she will probably deny it if you ask her.
