Visiting "Home"
We've had another wonderful time home in Northern Virginia but this time it was extra special because we were home for Christmas. I haven't been home since we've been married (4 years). The weather was really pleasant considering its December and Romulo and I even commented that some of the days in Northern VA were like Northern CA days. Sunday the weather was 66 degrees; amazing! There is so much to catch up on from our 2 week trip but I will try to do some a little at a time; plus too many pictures! Tomorrow we fly out of IAD to head back home to SF! I miss home (home in East Bay) and am ready to go back to work (well sort of). It's funny to think that I consider SF as "home" but in fact I really do feel like I'm starting to get roots there. I mean I will always call Northern Va "home" because that's were my whole family is from and still is at but I grew up there and feel that special connection to VA. But now that Romulo and I are out of school and out of that limbo stage of our lives we love the roots that are starting to form in Northern CA.

Reflections
These past couple of weeks have made me reflect on my many blessings. The Lord has truly blessed me over the years and ever since I got married I can't begin to count them. Romulo has to be the greatest thing that has ever come into my life. I know these last few weeks have been tough on him with his back pain and not going to work but he still finds time to show his love for me. For instance this morning after his Bishopric meetings he still came home to make me breakfast even though he was in a lot of pain. And on Friday I came home and found him sitting among piles of folded clothes. I don't know about you but it made my heart smile because who doesn't love it when the clothes are done by someone else. I'm a lucky girl to be married to a kind and gentle man.

Welcome to the Family
My oldest sister, Sarah, had her second child on Friday (12-12-08). Aiden Charles Oliver 8 lbs 8 oz 20.5 inches long and simply adorable. I hoped to have some pictures by now so I could post them to show him off but nothing yet. I did get two pictures text to me and my sister-in-law Molly Kay has some up on her website. Lil'Aidan has a smart big brother, Zander, that will surely help him learn the ropes. Next week I will get to hold this new little bundle of joy when Romulo and I head to VA for Christmas.
If anyone is wondering I now have a total of 6 nephews and 3 nieces.

Ronaldo is another LOUCO
Yes! Ronaldo has joined Corinthians, the soccer team I fanatically root for in Brazil. Most people have heard or seen pictures of probably one of the most popular soccer athletes of all time. He has been elected 3 times the best player of the world (1996, 1997, and 2002), has played 4 world cups (they only happen every 4 years, which makes something hard to accomplish), and is the greatest scorer in world cup history (he past Pele and the German Muller last world cup with 15 goals). I have been a big fan of his since he started playing, and although he is no longer in his prime, he has made his life of shutting up people who thought he was done. In 2000, he had a serious injury on his right knee, in which one of the ligaments simple ruptured as he was running during a game (no hit, no nothing...just ruptured). It was a complicated surgery and possibly over a year of recovery. Since he had already been the best in world twice, was plenty rich, and adding the severity of the injury, most people didn't think he would come back.
Well, he did work hard to recover during the whole year 0f 2001. In 2002, although he had barely played any games, he gave a call to the Brazilian team head coach and said, "Call me in. I am ready for the world cup".
The gutsy coach did enlist him for the world cup and everyone called him crazy, saying that he was wasting a spot in the squad. The result:
8 goals, the world cup title, and the best player of the world prize. He destroyed Germany in the final with 2 beautiful goals.
He began having some more injuries (mostly muscular injuries), but was still able to play at a high level, including another world cup appearance in 2006.
Then, last year, the guy's worst nightmare happened. The same crazy, career-destroying injury happened again, but this time in the left knee.
Once again, everyone began saying again that he wasn't coming back and that he had no incentive to return.
Once again, he spent the whole year recovering.
And once again, his love for the game has brought him back.
Away from the high profile of the European teams, he chose to play for my Corinthians, a team with 30 million plus followers (the "Corinthian faithful" or "fiel corintiana"). I am hoping that he will once again shut everyone up and bring back his best soccer. I know, I know, he is not in the best of shapes, but I think he can get back to it.

In 1996, in his prime...and now....not as much
Good Luck Ronaldo!

The Joys of Getting Old...yes we get Old
After 2 1/2 hours at the doctor's office, X-Rays, and some funny experiences with the Staff we finally got some answers for Romulo's bazaar back pain. He has retrolisthesis on or around his 4th and 5th vertebra with a grade level of 1 along with the disc (near those vertebras) degenerating. I'm no doctor but basically what it is is when you have spacing in between the spine and they should all line up nice and straight but with Romulo one or two of them are off and is touching the nerve therefore causing him pain. For treatment he was told to take some pain medicine and do 12 sessions of physical therapy over the next 6 weeks and see him back in 1 month. And if that doesn't help they will do a MRI and see what steps they would have to take next (i.e. surgery...let's hope not).
Seriously, whenever you spend a lot of time in a doctor's office you tend to get annoyed with every little detail; at least I do. I've had my share of doctor office experiences to write a weeks worth of postings. But I will spare you the pain.
Moving on, when we were finally brought back to the room there was only one chair and the nurse told me to hold on while she got another chair for me to sit in. The funny thing was she called me MAMA. "Hold on MAMA while I get another chair." I quickly looked at Romulo like "What, who is she talking to?" He smiled and laughed. She kept calling Romulo, Mr. Aguilar (with a strong Spanish accent); it was funny why I don't know maybe because she called me Mama and him Mr. Aguilar. I guess you had to be there.
Then when the doctor came in he shook Romulo's hand and then paused and without looking at me asked, "Who is this person?" Um hello I'm in the room you ask me?! I have no idea how long it was until one of us answered because a million comments were running through my mind to respond back and they weren't all nice. But I think I said "Wife!" while Romulo responded with a full sentence of "This is my wife, Lydia." LOL.
After Romulo had his X-Ray and the doctor came in to look at it the first thing out of his mouth was (and let me edit the first word okay), "Dang you are too young for this!" My eyes bugged out and looked at Romulo who was smiling and laughing. In the next few seconds that pasted I was hoping that this doctor would follow up with something reassuring; but nope! Now with Romulo and the doctor huddled around the computer looking at the image I finally broke my silenced and asked "So, what does that mean?"
For goodness sakes all of you people out there who are either wanting to become a doctor or are working towards becoming one please think before you speak. Because I seriously had my whole future flashed before me and I wasn't liking what I was seeing.

December Events: so far!
This past week has been a crazy busy one for us. Romulo was in Seattle again, hopefully for the last time, and I worked in the San Rafael office. (I was asked to work there for a few weeks to help out at that branch.) San Rafael is a beautiful area, in Marin County, but it sure is a long commute for me. In the morning at 5:45 am there really isn't anyone out on the roads so it takes me a good 40 minutes but going home is another story; 1hr and 30 minutes. Ouch! But everyday during my commute home during rush hour I absorb as much of the sunlight/sunset. I try to notice something new that will keep me positive. Like for instance the other day while driving over the San Rafael/Richmond bridge I could see clearly the two other bridges; the Golden Gate and the Bay Bridge. It was so beautiful to see them in the distance and have the sunlight shine on the water. Too bad I was driving because I would have taken some pictures to prove the sights and taken in the scenery better. But I was grateful for that sight because it made me look forward to the next drive home.
So Romulo was called to a new calling in church. He is now the Executive Secretary for the Bishop. He won't be teaching Sunday School to the 16-17 yr old kids anymore. He will miss that calling a lot because he was starting to fall in love with them. (And I think they were starting to respect him, too.)
Last Sunday was the Primary Program for our kids and of course it was an eventful one. The Sunbeams sitting in the front were either playing with the gum they had in their mouths, pulling up their shirts, or trying to walk off the stage. It gave a few laughs. And my kids were amazing, they all knew their parts and for the most part they were well behaved. I did notice one of my little boys falling asleep while they were signing the last song of the program. His eyes were getting really heavy and his little mouth moved very slowly. I could only smile and hope his parents were enjoying it as much as I was. Later on in class I decided that I didn't want to teach them the full lesson because they really did do a great job in the program and thought they could use a break. I gave the lesson in 5 minutes and then we played a few games. During "I Spy" one of my little boys during his turn said, "I Spy something COLORFUL." Laughing, I asked "What color?". "Colorful?" "No, what color be specific?" "Colorful is a color." "Oh, okay." Got to love kids.
Yesterday for some reason I felt the itch really bad to get a hair cut. Its been a little over two months since I had my hair cut and I felt that need to get it done again. But still not having someone in a new area makes it kind of hard to get it done. So, I went to the closest SUPER CUTS and got a $16 cut. I know, I know what was I thinking but it was $16 after all. I'm not dismissing the services they provide there but I don't think in all my years I ever had a $16 hair cut. No wash, no style just a spray down of water and cut. I kind of felt like a guy getting a hair cut, short and sweet and to the point. Just kidding.
Don't get me wrong the reason I'm not posting any pictures is because its a bad hair cut its just because I didn't take a picture; yet. I actually don't MIND it. Sure the bangs are a little too short but nothing to cry over. And trust me in the past I would have cried over these bangs. I would cry over an inch or less. But don't think I didn't run home and tell Romulo not to talk to me for at least an hour or two so I could get settled with my hair. He reassured me it was just hair and that I was strong enough to deal with the cut. What is that suppose to mean; it is a bad hair cut. No, no he just meant there is no need for tears. HaHaHa. Most of the day I was telling myself, "The cut was $16 not bad, not bad." , "The bangs will grow." Later on that night Romulo was kind enough to tell me that my hair was a little Chanel cut and it was adorable on me. That made me feel a lot better because who doesn't want to be compared to CoCo Chanel; I do! So that basically sums up my hair now; short cute Chanel cut. I'll try to post some pictures of it so nobody reading this freaks out; family!!!
Oh and FYI Romulo threw out his back the other night while sitting on the floor Indian style. LOL! I'm sorry I know I shouldn't be laughing but it was late, I was laying in bed and he came to sit on the floor to talk to me. Why he sat on the floor I don't know but it was cute. So when he was getting up all of a sudden he screamed and was "paralyzed" with pain. That's how he describes it. He hasn't been the same since but luckily he will be able to go to the doctors.

Lost for Words!
Some forgotten pictures from our Seattle trip.
I know, I know the giant hand holding a doughnut. I don't know either besides letting you all know that this is actually on someones front porch. Romulo and I were looking for a place to park and started cracking up at the sight of it. Trust me I would never have a piece of art like this on my front porch even if I was the designer. Romulo is certain that its Homer's hand from the Simpson's. I don't know, what do you think?
This drink in the picture has to be one of the best drinks I've ever had. I think they call it the Salsa Drink. It has lemonade, sprite, tons of cilantro and mint, lime, and the secret ingredient a slice of Jalapeno. Yes, yes jalapeno. And let me tell you its to die for. I wish I could capture the taste for you so you all could enjoy it as much as me.
Piroshky, Piroshky bakery has some of the most wonderful warm smelling treats that I've ever experienced. The smell of apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, and bread pretty much sums it up for me.

Thanksgiving 2008
My little sister, Emma, came to visit us for Thanksgiving. It was so wonderful to have her here with us celebrating the holiday weekend. It brightened my spirits up having a family member here. Plus we were able to show her around SF since she has never been here. And she was happy to be here because she was able to eat at Chipotle twice. Here she is texting someone while viewing the Golden Gate Bridge.
Thanksgiving day after the delicious feast we took a well deserved nap and then a drive to Mt Diablo. It was breath taking to drive up the mountain while the sun was setting and taking in the views of the valley from on top.

On Friday, I had to work a few hours in the morning while the Market was open but then was able to meet up with Romulo and Emma in downtown SF. They saw Union Square all decorated and festive. Plus, all the crazy BLACK FRIDAY shoppers. We stayed clear from that. But we were able to see the Financial District (nobody was there which was nice), Pier 39, Coit Tower, Lombard Street, Ghiradelli Square, and China Town. We ate some DimSum in China Town and had some ice cream at Ghiradelli Square. We wanted to stick around for the Christmas Tree lighting at Union Square but after walking around the city for 7 hours we called it quits and it was a good thing because when we were leaving town there was a huge line of cars trying to get into the city.
Saturday, we adventured some more in SF. This time around when we visited the Golden Gate Bridge we viewed it from Fort Point. That night we came back closer to us and ate outside at Cheesecake Factory. The weather all weekend was gorgeous; mid to high 60s. At one point it was 73 degrees. I'm still amazed by the weather in the Winter.

Random Shots
Do you believe in Santa? Macy's wants us to believe! And I believe in Macy's.
I don't know why I'm posting this picture but it spoke volumes to me.
So, you are probably wondering what the heck this is. Right? Well, its OILS and VINEGARS from the store: Oil&Vinegar. I thought it was super cute.
Just for Easton
This post is for my LEGO LOVING NEPHEW EASTON! At the mall they had a LEGO store and I thought of you. Here are some pictures of their CHRISTMAS scenes.

Stories out of Pictures
Saturday we woke up early and headed towards Seattle. We enjoyed the day with great smells, tasting of the local food, sights, and each other.
Looking down the PIKE PLACE MARKET. This was the meat section.
Here is the seafood section.

This door marks the spot for the restaurant; PINK DOOR! If you didn't know what you were looking for you would walk pass this door and say "Wow, that is a peach-pink door". Seriously, we heard this place had some great Italian food so we went on the hunt for it. First off, its down Post Alley, a little alley full of stores, and what not but then when you come to the pink door it doesn't have a sign. The door is the sign! :) By the way, REALLY great food.
Jars full of spices. I just thought it looks really pretty.
These are pieces of organic soap. I did buy from this vendor; 85% organic lip balm. Love it!
Cute little patio with multi-colored chairs. Wish it was warmer so we could have sat out there. (Outside of the PINK DOOR.)
There were a few vendors that sold these pepper arrangements. Plus, there are quiet a few vendors that sell dried flower arrangements. So pretty.

TRUCE
My amazing husband had a surprise for me on Friday morning. He thought after flying in late and seeing a midnight movie that I could use a relaxing massage at the spa in our Hotel; TRUCE! Boy was he right on it. I melted on that table and felt very refreshed in deed. It started off my weekend just right. My husband sure does like to spoil me.
Later on that day, he took me to the building to show me where he had been working all week. Supposedly the top level of the building is where Bill Gate's has his personal office/personal finance department. And the cool thing about it is to get to that level you have to pass the security with your fingerprint. Sorry, your security badge won't work for that level. Only Bill!
This building was by a marina with boats tied up, little cute shops, and restaurants. We ended up eating there and had some great seafood and views.

Project RAIN
Last week Romulo was in Seattle again for a business trip, still working on Project RAIN, and I decided since I've never been to Seattle and have always wanted to go I should go. So, that's what I did. I flew in on Thursday night, Romulo took me out to eat and then it was off to the PREMIERE OF TWILIGHT. That's right people I saw Twilight in Seattle. How cool is that? I mean of course it would have been better if I could have gone to Forks, WA for a day but I figured seeing the movie in Seattle, WA (only 4 hrs away from Forks) was good enough.
Now, with the movie. Oh words can't describe how I feel. I mean does the movie do the book justice; NO! But is it cool to see a book come to life; YES! Was it annoying to hear all the teenagers screaming and yelling; YES! Am I 16 yrs old; NO! Did I feel bad dragging my husband to the movie at 11:59 pm knowing that he had to work the next day; NO! HEHEHE! Did he enjoy the quality time with me; YES! (At least I think so...ask him!)

Do NoT CaLl @ 3aM - pLeAsE
Friday night I fell asleep at 10:30 pm, which is late for me considering I am in bed by 8:30 and so asleep by 9 during the week, and at 3:30 am my cell phone rang. Still asleep I answered the phone and it took me a while to register what was happening.
Me: "Hello?"
Voice at 3:30 am: "Who is this?"
Me: (Thinking: What, are you kidding me, you called me you tell me who you are?...but this is what came out of my mouth...) "It's 4 am in the morning..." (Considering I didn't know the real time it was a pretty good guess.)
Voice at 3:30 am: "Lydia? It's me Luccas!"
HEHEHE my brother-in-law who lives in Brazil. But I don't say anything I just hand the phone to Romulo and let him talk. It took Romulo a while to get it too. I instantly felt horrible how I responded to him but HEY DON'T BLAME ME I WAS HALF ASLEEP...really!
Fast forward 12 hours: Romulo thinks it would be funny to call Luccas at 3:30 am Brazil time. So yeah that's what he did.
Romulo: "Hey buddy, you want to talk NOW?"
Luccas: "What, it's 3:30 am."
LOL! Oh Luccas was a good sport even though he does have to wake up early for a 6:00 am stake meeting for church. OOPS! Now we are EVEN!!!
AI
Today was the first for me when it comes to REALLY supporting the AMERICAN IDOL contestants. I was a fan of lil'David and had to support the Murray High Schooler. So I bought David Archuleta's self titled CD. Who out there bought his CD and loves it too? I love his voice and I'm sorry I'm not one to blab about a person but I love it. So what if he is Mormon and from Murray Utah I like him not matter what.
Also, I am a fan of Carrie Underwood but I haven't bought a full CD only songs I like on ITunes. I must say today was a huge step. Go DAVID!

Cut My Hair, please?
Pure Beauty at the Embarcadero Center was honored today to have Nick Arrojo as a guest. He is the hair stylist on the famous TLC show "WHAT NOT TO WEAR". Romulo and I were meeting up for lunch and when we walked by the store we saw a crowd of people gathering around the door and inside the store. When I looked in there Nick was cutting away on someone and showing the crowd tips on hair. Oh to be in line to get a hair cut from him?! I felt like I was brushing shoulders with Stacy and Clint themselves. Hehe, maybe not. But still it excited me. Plus it gave me something interesting to blog about. (Always looking for things to blog about...)

"I like how we're just wearing it around..."
My adorable, Europe explorer co-worker Allison and I went on a shopping spree lunch today. We had to check out the Shoe Pavilion store on Powell street because in 7 days they will close for good. So sad, so sad. But we didn't find anything and as Allison put it,"They all look like hooker shoes." Yeah, no deals of the century there. We left and walked across the street to Old Navy. Old Navy was having a UP TO 50% off deal on outerwear. We saw these vintage cute colorful must have coats. We both tried them on and both tried to comment on each other in them but finally I told her I was finding a mirror. So with the coat still on we walked across the store to a mirror. LOL. They were cute but we both felt "like a baby doll" in them. I am seriously thinking about getting it...I know she is going back after work and getting it.
After many laughs in Old Navy we found ourselves in front of Specialtys wanting a cookie. I didn't' see any chocolate chip cookies left so I asked, "How long will it be for the chocolate chips?" Guy at the window, "4 hours!" Allison and I must have had some pretty funny faces or bug eyes because he started cracking up and telling us to CHILL and that he was just only JOKING...OMG! Allison, "Doesn't he know he should never joke to a girl about her chocolate?" How true is that statement?

Sleepless in Seattle
Like I mentioned in my last posting, Romulo was in Seattle for the day on business. But starting next week he will be traveling back to Seattle for 3 days (Monday thru Wednesday) for the next 4 weeks. Nice, huh?
I think so. No seriously, I know it will be hard and all but this project is a great opportunity for him inside PWC. "Project Rain", as it's called, will give him great exposure to the client but also to show PWC what he is made of.
It was funny when he told me about it, it was as if he was saying it with a bullet proof vest on because I'm sure he thought I would exploded and go off on him but I simply smiled and responded very positive to him. Inside and out I felt really HAPPY for him. I knew assignments, projects, etc would be coming his way with work and I knew he would have to travel some but overall I am the one who suffers the lest right. I am the one who will be sleeping in my bed, eating my food in my kitchen, and going to work in my office. Where he will be in a new place, new people, eating out all the time, and sleeping in a hotel. Not that GLAMOROUS. It can get old. Plus I am in control of my reactions and feelings. At least I am trying to control those reactions and feelings. HaHa.
And maybe just maybe I will be able to get a trip out of it. I mean it won't be free and all but at least I can make it a great excuse to visit Seattle with him. I always have wanted to see Seattle. Why, I don't know just one of those places I guess. So, maybe there is something exciting to look forward too...blogging about a Seattle weekend visit.

Oh the Glamorous Life...
What exactly does someone look like if and when they steal something? Really, what/how? This afternoon I had to take a cab home from the Bart station because Romulo is on a business trip (Seattle) for today only and he took the car to the airport. And I swear that the ride home felt much much longer than it usually does because I was in a cab. And of course I didn't have money with me so I had to pay the fare with a credit card and it seriously was the hardest thing for the driver to accomplish. I'm sorry but how many times does it take for a person to verify that the numbers on the credit card are correct and that I am the owner of the card.
For me it would be like this: Can I please have your drivers license and credit card? (Verify name with credit card, the license picture with ME in your cab car, and look for the signature to match the one on the back of the credit card.)
Well, I won't bore you with the little tiny details that annoyed me but during the 3rd time around of verifying me with the credit card and the credit card to his system he said "Well I just need to make sure because we wouldn't want this card to be a stole one. And you don't look like a person who would steal something but you never know." You know I respected him for verifying it because I wouldn't want my card to be stolen but PLEASE I've been in your car, in front of my apartment for 10 minutes now...can we please!
No worries, I was quiet, polite, smiled, and told him what he was doing was fine. But now that I am sitting in front of my computer blogging about nothing I am still pondering that comment. "You don't look like a person who would steal..."

Second half of the Pigeon Story...
Hi, this is Romulo, and yeah, that was funny... I did mess up the whole leaves instead of feathers, but those things just happen. I am not the only one, though... this is the full conversation:
The previously posted portion of the conversation:
Romulo: "Wow, the LEAVES are really messed up."Lydia: "What LEAVES?" (Looking around for leaves on the sidewalk.)Romulo: "The LEAVES on the pigeon."Lydia: "OH, the FEATHERS?"Romulo: "OH yeah the FEATHERS on the pigeon are really messed up."
The hidden portion of the conversation:
(after, of course, a lot of laughter from both of us)
Lydia:"Didn't you know the word 'feather'?"
Romulo:"No, I knew it... sometimes it just happens..."
Lydia:"I don't understand how it happens when you know the right word..."
Romulo:" Well, how come that instead of saying 'Jesucristo' in your first attempted prayer in Spanish, you said 'Jorge Cristo'??"
Lydia: "But I was not speaking my first language!!!"
Romulo: "Neither am I!"
(more and more laughter from both of us)
Yeah....that is the part she didn't mention. Many years ago she was set to go to the Dominican Republic on a mission, and the story goes that she went to dinner with Troy and Sarah. They asked her to try to say a prayer in Spanish....well, you now know the rest.
It makes me laugh when I think of the surprised face that Jesus might have made as he heard her cute prayer... I am sure He has been called many things, but I could bet it was the first time He was called Jorge. :)
Yeah, the "leaves" story is just one more in my long list of hilarious stories about learning the language, and Lydia and I often have a lot of fun with all of them. But it is even more funny when you know you are not the only one....hahaha....sorry, love...

Grey and Cold in SF
SF weather today: grey sky, few sprinkles here and there, and chilly. I must say I enjoyed it because in the past 4 months we haven't really had a day like this so we must be thankful for that. I also enjoyed another lunch break with my husband. He makes me laugh so hard; or maybe I just laugh at him. Oh I hope he doesn't feel that way but I think we LAUGH TOGETHER.
Let me set the scene for you. We were walking up California Street towards my building (101 California) and for those that don't know SF has a lot of pigeons. So we were walking and this disabled pigeon crossed our path. Usually Romulo tries to kick it; I know what your thinking but what can I do. This time we both just looked at it: curved neck, missing a few feathers, and missing some "toes" on his feet.
We both kind of said something about the pigeon and how messed up it looked. Romulo then went on and said this:
Romulo: "Wow, the LEAVES are really messed up."
Lydia: "What LEAVES?" (Looking around for leaves on the sidewalk.)
Romulo: "The LEAVES on the pigeon."
Lydia: "OH, the FEATHERS?"
Romulo: "OH yeah the FEATHERS on the pigeon are really messed up."
I laughed and made fun of him the whole time after that. Sorry, is that mean? But I thought it was a cute story.

"But it's candy..."
-On Sunday, we were sitting in Sacrament meeting and a family with three little girls came and sat right in front of us. The youngest girl, Georgia, came in, sat down and instantly connected with Romulo. She had the rosiest red cheeks, blonde hair pulled in pig tails, and the bluest eyes. She had candy in her hand, Smarties, and turned around and asked Romulo if he wanted some candy. He said no but she asked again, "But it's candy, do you want some candy?". And again Romulo said no. But during all of this she was coughing (just getting caught on the candy and talking at the same time thing). After Romulo said no for a second time she did one last cough and informed us while covering her mouth, "That means I'm sick.". It was the cutest thing. After the Sacrament was passed she came and colored with Romulo.
-Today Romulo and I meet up for lunch. The weather here has FINALLY started to get cold. And when I mean cold its around the 50s...not bad huh considering most of October it was high 60s. I'm getting used to the weather here but mentally I am waiting for the cold and eventually the snow but I know that won't happen. I don't know how to explain it but for me who grew up with 4 different seasons it's hard to understand that snow won't come, the leaves don't really change color, and you can go outside without a coat on in October (mid-day).
So, after we ate lunch (soup in a bread bowl from Boudins) we walked around the Financial District. It was so beautiful. When we were at Embarcadero we saw a group of guys putting together the Ice Skating Rink. That instantly got me excited about Winter! Finally something that associates with Winter; Ice Skating! I told Romulo that we would have to go sometime during lunch but he quickly informed me that he has NEVER Ice Skated and doesn't want to go back to work with a wet bottom! HaHa! Yeah, maybe not during lunch but after work. I will definitely share those pictures if we ever go!
-Do you ever wonder if people think you have an accent when you talk? I do sometimes. I asked my co-worker today if I had one and here is the conversation:
Me: "Do you think I have an accent?"
Co-Worker: "Yeah."
Me: "Oh. So you can tell I'm from the East?"
Co-worker: "No, just someone that's definitely not from here."
I won't bore you with the rest. So, I guess that answered my question.

Memory Lane: Halloween
Halloween 2005
We were living in Virginia for the fall '05 semester and enjoying family time. Here are two pictures that brought back a lot of good memories. And if you can believe it this was Romulo's first go around with carving a pumpkin.
My mom bought three pumpkins and wanted the "boys" aka Easton and Hudson to carve them for her front deck. And I don't really know if Hudson asked Romulo to help him carve or told him to carve the 3rd one but the next thing I knew Romulo was carving. I never thought about him NOT ever carving a pumpkin before. But as time pasted we all started talking about past Halloweens and I'm sure I asked Romulo what he used to dress up as. Well, for those that don't know Brazilians don't celebrate Halloween. So as soon as I heard that I went and got the camera
to fully document this for him. Hudson thought that was funny. So I hope you enjoy memory lane.

Mind Wondering
Forgive me but I need to share some of my daily thoughts. I feel like if anyone reads this they might compare me to Charlie Brown's teacher and how the only thing she ever says is "Blah, Blah, Blah". I always thought that was hilarious that they never had her say anything because that's what I guess children think teachers say.
So here are my random daily thoughts:
-Whenever I am cutting up or washing strawberries I always think of my grandmother because she loved strawberries. She was my fathers mother and we called her MomMom. In her kitchen she had a theme and that was strawberries. Strawberry kitchen towels, oven mitts, pictures, pitchers, cups, etc etc. I love having my mind wonder to those thoughts/images when I'm taking the time to cut or wash strawberries.
-Go to and from work I usually read a book but this morning I finished it and therefore didn't have anything to read coming home. But you know that's okay because I took advantage of the scenery that passes by me every day while I'm riding BART. I love seeing new things or things that I hadn't noticed before. And I never get bored seeing the beautiful Oakland Temple. Its an amazing sight because it pops right out of the trees of Oakland Hill.
-Lately I've been taking any and all stairs instead of the elevators/escalators because well for one thing its good for you and why not take advantage of free exercise equipment right. Well anyway, I've been doing that for a while now and the other day when I went back to work after being sick I just couldn't take the stairs. I was taking the escalator up out of the Embarcadero BART and as I was riding them I could smell something funky. Now my sister Emma thinks I have a highly sensitive nose so I thought well maybe its nothing out of the usual. But surely as I was continuing up I could smell the urine and b.o. smell of the homeless. I laughed at myself because I knew at that moment that taking stairs no matter what it is, is better for your health than smelling THAT at 6:30 in the morning. Oh that will wake you up for sure!!!
-Also when I'm walking around the city either for lunch break or just a regular 15 minute break I've been trying to look up and take in all that is around me instead of head down, feet moving a mile a minute and being all hard. I notice that I am much more pleasant and have a better attitude about life when I focus on the beautiful tall buildings, the sky, and the people that make up this world. Okay, maybe I'm getting a little sensitive here but trust me there is something about looking up and joying this beautiful world that our Father in Heaven has made for us and us humans have accessorized. For example today I was meeting Romulo for lunch and as I was walking I saw the beautiful blue clear sky and popping out in between three buildings was the Transamerica Pyramid Building. It was breath taking.

Visting the Y again!
Well, I'm alone again as Romulo travels to BYU to recruit for his work. Luckily this time he is only gone a day and a half. He will be coming home late tomorrow night. The worse part about this trip is I'm sick at home and the day seems so much longer without him. I'm not sick sick but I'm aching and have pains all over my body and I can't shake it. I don't know what it is that is attacking my joints and muscles but it hurts. It's not the usual muscle pull hurt its like to the bone joint hurt. It hurts to lay, to sit, to stand, whatever it is I'm doing the pain is there. I do feel much better today but over the weekend it was miserable. So, I will sit here alone in pain and wishing the time to go bye fast. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to go back to work and that will for sure make the time fly.
P.S. Romulo is at BYU today and tomorrow but if you don't recognize him its because he is sporting a gotee. I think its so cute on him but hilarious at the same time because of the shaving rule at BYU. Yeah even though he might not be a student anymore I still think its funny he is visiting the campus with one.

When you are a child you never liked knowing that the day would come to an end and you would have to go to bed. I must admit there was a year that I had a fear of going to sleep. I don't really know why I did but I would cry and cry because I didn't want to sleep. So every morning I would wake up with puffy eyes and my feet were dragging all day. But I grew out of that stage and have come to really LOVE MY SLEEP. I love my bed and what joy it brings me to be all warm in my bed with at least 3 layers covering me. Yeah, I know 3 layers but trust me its the flat sheet, a thin blanket and then the comforter. I've always liked the pressure or the weight of covers. Even when I'm hot I have to have some sort of cover on me or else I won't sleep.
Anyway, I have to get at least 8 hours of sleep. So with my job starting at 7 am and commuting at least an hour in the morning I have to go to bed pretty early; no later than 9pm. I mean I can go to bed later but I feel it in the morning. So, I make it a point to be in bed at 9 even if I have the TV on. But this doesn't allow Romulo and I to have a lot of quality time together. He tries to be home at or around 7pm. So, by the time he gets home we have dinner, clean up from that, and then do some sort of activity together which is usually watching TV because I'm starting to get sleepy. But there are times when I'm daring and we go out somewhere or we just drive around the town and talk. But Romulo knows that we need to be home at 9 pm because I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open by that point.
I feel bad sometimes knowing that my husband is up by himself while I'm sleeping but we make the most of it. (Or when I'm asleep he plays his XBOX with Bruno...which I don't mind I like it because he spends quality friend time with another Brazilian.) Well, at least we try. It's funny when you are super busy you get the most done and feel closer to one another. At least, I feel like I've gotten closer to him and love him more because of lack of time. I mean in my perfect world sure I would love to have all day with my husband but I know what we are doing is what we need to be doing. And we LOVE the weekends because its our own schedule and we are TOGETHER all day for two days!
But there is a time of day that is my favorite; bed time. The nights are my favorite because I'm in my favorite part of the house and most nights Romulo puts me to bed. We have this tradition that he takes the covers and throws them up in the air and covers me with them while I'm laying down. His mom used to do that to him and he now does it to me. I've never done it to him. I wonder why just now I've thought of that. Gosh, I'm a spoiled wife. Anyway, it makes me smile and I love it.
I really enjoy when Romulo puts me to bed because sometimes I will ask him to sing to me. I hope I'm not going to embarrass him but I love it when he sings to me because he sings Brazilian songs and it puts me right to sleep. He really has a great voice. :) (Love you Ro.) Or there are times when we just talk and I love those moments because we share thoughts and memorizes. It's such a precious time of the day and that's why I love SLEEPING.

I Pledge
For lunch today I met up with Romulo and two of his co-workers at this cute little Mexican place in an ally. (One of those cute little allies with restaurants and a ton of people; love it.) And we started talking about the Debate last night. We didn't get far into the discussion when Romulo's co-worker, Sima, asked if he was a citizen or not. (Sima is from Holland.) We chatted a little about what it would take to become a citizen and how it would effect his Brazilian citizenship. So long story short we were discussing the test that people have to take here in America to become a citizen. Romulo was making a joke along the lines like I couldn't pass the test if I had to say the Pledge of Allegiance. And with that I asked Romulo if he even knew it. (Sometimes I forget that he isn't American because his English is PERFECT and plus you just forget i don't look at him like that...just someone I love to death.)
He didn't know it but Sima also not knowing it asked me what it was. So there I sat thinking I knew it, saying it so many times during K-12 grade, but in fact I stumbled a little over it. I said it but with a lot of doubt, I didn't know if it sounded right. But after getting back to work I googled it and in fact I was saying it right. I was just not pausing at the right words. Silly me. As I was walking back to work I thought oh my gosh, I don't remember the Allegiance what American forgets that. I felt so bad. But Thanks to Google I was relieved to know that I was true to my country. :)
So for all of you that might not remember it. Here it is:
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all."

Tag Tag Tag!
Sorry Vanessa, I totally spaced this TAG! Here it goes. These are the rules: 3 joys, 3 fears, 3 current obsessions/collections, 3 surprising facts and then tag 3 other people. Leave a comment for the people you tag so they know they have been tagged.
Joys
1. Spending time with my husband
2. Buying the perfect shoes and having no regrets
3. Going home to VA and cooking with my mom
Fears
1. Never living in VA
2. That I will never learn Portuguese and my kids won't be able to speak the language either.
3. That I will wake up one day and find that one little gray hair sticking up. Getting old.
Current Obsessions/Collections
1. My husband's chocolate milkshakes.
2. Working out on my exercise ball while I'm watching recorded shows like Project Runaway, Rachel Zoe Project, and Top Design.
3. Franco Sarto shoes...love them!
Surprising Facts
1. I have never been stung by a bee. (Knock on wood.)
2. I was born at home in record time: 45 minutes.
3. I now have a pink camouflage Harley Davidson bandanna that I wear on my head so I don't have those funny little spots on my forehead after I ride with Romulo.

Picture Tag
Thanks Kimber! I've been tagged to share a picture and tell about it. The way it works is you open your picture files, choose the 4th file and then the 4th picture in that file. My picture is of me bundled up outside enjoying the Christmas Lights at Temple Square (2004). Romulo was taking the picture. (Funny thing is the next picture number 5 is of us together...I was honest in the rules.) We were so excited to be living in SLC, Romulo was doing school at LDS Business College, we were celebrating our 1st Christmas together (married in September), experiencing our 1st Temple Square Christmas, and loving life. It's amazing how time flies and you forget little memories like this one.

No New Update
This posting isn't really about anything important. Nothing really big has happened to report about besides the fact that I punch in and out everyday at work while the Stock Market prices are going up and down like a Yo-Yo and people walking around giving themselves an ulcer.
When I drive to and from the Bart station I like to listen to NPR news; yeah I'm old. Sometimes when I'm driving and listening to the news I think about the time when I thought the NPR news was boring. I was probably 13 and my family and I were driving from VA to UT and we were listening to NPR. We were in the middle of Kansas, so boring and flat, and NPR was putting me right to sleep. I said to myself, "I will NEVER listen to this boring news station." I didn't care what was happening in the news, I was one of those self centered bratty teenagers. Well, maybe not bratty but way into myself. (Who wasn't at that age, right?)
So here I am 13 years later (wow 13) and finding myself actually loving the news from NPR. If there is anything that I've learned in life is never say never to anything.

The Beach
Yesterday afternoon Romulo and I decided to be random and go somewhere. We decided since Santa Cruz beach was only an hour away we should go there. It was so nice driving to the beach and enjoying quality time with my husband. We drove right up to the Boardwalk that they have there and parked. We went to an Old Classic Car Show and then headed towards the Boardwalk. The Santa Cruz Boardwalk celebrated their 100th year anniversary last year. It was pretty cool to walk around and see people enjoying the carnival ride and games. We had to eat a funnel cake with lots of powder sugar on top. Romulo wasn't sure if he had ever had one so I had to expose him to that sweetness! Oh so bad!
The weather was great, not so hot but not cold either. Just the right wind and sun mixture. I couldn't believe it was October and we were enjoying the beach. There were people in the water playing and surfing. We walked around until we found a seafood restaurant to eat at.Weekends that are random are always the best. The time with Romulo at the beach was priceless. (I will post pictures later.)

Happy Birthday Marian
Marian Johns Horn, aka Marian Elizabeth Johns, born 10-4 in the year of 1980. She was the readier, the worrier, and the natural funny girl in the family. She has taught me a lot about life and has been an example to me of "How to endure til the end". She has too many nickname's to write about but I think the most she is called is either Mimi or Mar. She is one of my many hero's in life. She has a beautiful family and has a great testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. She is one of those people that you can confide in and offers an ear and doesn't judge. I love all of my sisters but I think over the years Marian and I have had a special bond. She was the one after all that made it possible for Romulo and I to get together. She was the one who gave Romulo my contact information and she gave me his. She had the vision way before me that I was to marry him. I love her for that. Happy Birthday Mimi! I love you, kisses!
