Summer Walks - 17

It's been quite some time since I've shared anything personal, there's been far too much on facebook and I need now to make things a little more open. The summer walking season has started, I led a walk a few weeks ago on Bosley Cloud here's a photo and you'll see there's an associated album. We had a pleasant after walk drink at the Royal Oak in Rushton Spencer. The walks carry on until July if you want to participate we're open to anyone - drop me a note if you want a north east cheshire walk on Wed/Thursday - we alternate days!

And last night we had another Summer Walk in perfect conditions. This was in the Rainow area, passing through Ingersley vale and ending up at the Robin Hood pub in Rainow. On getting back to Rainow we were greeted with this splendid sunset. White Nancy is the conical monument on the hill (Kerridge Hill) on the left of the picture. Last night was walk number 5 - still no rain - on Gun Hill near Rushton Spencer - the sky threatened but the rain held off! The Flickr album has been updated.

This was Thursday evening walk 4 which started from the Cat and Fiddle on the Buxton road, headed down to Wildboarclough and then to the Stanley Arms. The flickr set has been updated.

Summer walk 3 was in the Gawsworth area ending up at the Harrington arms - with this lovely view through the woods. The Flickr set has been updated.

I led the walk last night, we took the circular walk from the Crag Wildboarclough via Owlers Bridge - you can buy the book containing this walk from the Crag, the walk took us just 90 minutes. A few more pictures are on flickr. This picture was from the previous day when I checked the walk out - the fowl weren't visible last night though maybe I was busier leading!

The Rev Ian Blay, Rector of St Wilfred's Mobberley halted a couple's wedding service when his wife Suzanne ran into the church carry their dog, Izzy, who was unconscious after choking on a piece of cheese. After dislodging the obstruction, Mr Blay gave Izzy mouth to mouth resuscitation, and the bride-to-be father's gave the dog chest compressions. The dog revivied and ran out. The couple were married the following week.

under the title 'You may now kiss the dog'... I bet this is one thing they don't train you in at theological college! I bet Reform are writing letters in protest at inappropriate wedding services.
I see it's all over some bits of the national press but I'd missed it.

Yesterday was the first of the All Saints' summer walks and we had a walk around Rudyard.
Photo album for the season is here. We were meant to end up at the Royal Oak Rushden Spenser - but it was closed - it has recently been refurbished however there was a To Let sign outside so we went on to the Queen's Arms in Bosley and listened in on some of their Thursday evening quiz night.

Macclesfield Youth Club reunion - 17th October

Back in January I wrote:

We're in the midst of organising a reunion of the St Michael's/St Andrew's (aka All Saints) Youth club which met in the tin tab and St Andrew's back in the 1960's/70's/80's.
If you were part of it then and wish to be there for the reunion - no date decided yet (it is very preliminary!!) you'll be very welcome (but probably this year in the warm weather - if we have any).
If you wish to help organise it - that will be even better!
I've created a web page for details of those who will be coming - with as many or few contact details as you like.

The contact page is on that other posting, but to get to it you will need login details from me - just so that contact details aren't splurged across the net!
As you'll see from the subject a date has been fixed Saturday 17th Oct 2009 - maybe with an extension into the Sunday.
There's also a facebook group - where I am currently the only member...it might be a less onesided means of getting information and arrangements out - though you do need a Facebook account.
Having been on holiday I'm now intending to get things moving on this - 3 months to go!

This memorial in the churchyard of St Lawrence, Over Peover (in the grounds of Peover Hall) always seems very Breton to me. Looking at the base, it is in memory of one of the Mainwaring family and erected in the early 20th Century. If it wasn't in such an obscure spot it would, no doubt have had some crying Romish!

Thursday's walk was to Peover Hall well, through the grounds, a little later than we've been in previous years, so there weren't as many flowers out as last year (for example here).

We had a trip to WIldboarclough last weekend with lunch at the Crag and then a shorter than intended walk over the hills. Bluebells are just coming out and then there were some lambs. Here's one with Shutlingsloe in the background.

After this evenings carol service spotted the reflection of the tree in the bank's windows announcing sales and insecurity.

the stained glass of Queen Victoria is a lot closer and having meals beneath her gaze is sometimes alarming!
