Flippin' Your Fins

So, I always thought it was pretty cool that Ariel gets to flip her fins and hang out in the grotto all day,

But today as I was looking up information about Club 33 (Disneyland's exclusive and very expensive private club),

I came across these pictures:
Mermaid tryouts in the '60's for Disneyland Mermaids at the Submarine Voyage!

I want to be a mermaid for a day!  I can't imagine what you would do all day basking in the sun, but it looks relaxing enough and at least these fishies have some company.  A little girlie chit chat while working on my tan?  I think I could manage.

I guess Disney may have been the first to do this but I know that there are underwater Mermaid shows now.  You can check on out in Vegas, or if you want a real show, go to www.weekiwachee.com.  Simply Amazing.

Tatt-ews

So, I found this very funny.  I saw this in my Sephora email a few weeks ago:

Ha!  They actually sell concealer for tattoos which I think is a great idea and I feel somewhat satisfied that people pay $25 for it!  Suckers.  Not only are you stuck with that awful tattoo, but now you have to pay to cover it up!  When working at Disney I remember seeing a few mermaids covering up with foundation for the day and I have always been glad that I have never had to worry about that.  Disney would love this stuff.  No cast member can have a visible tattoo no matter what department they work in and with all the tattoos these days, the casting gets a little more tricky.

The thing is.... I don't get tattoos.  Call it commitment issues, call it self righteous, call it whatever you want.  I just don't get it.

I NEVER had the desire to get a tattoo.  I get that some kids (or adults) do it to be rebellious, but I was more of a double piercing girl (believe me I fought my mom on this one for a long time).  I didn't even dare go near my belly button.  I just couldn't understand why someone would want to draw on themselves... FOREVER.  In elementary school or junior high when I would draw something on myself, I was always relieved when it came off.  I just got sick of it no matter how cool it was.

My husband and sister think I'm ridiculous for whatever reason (sidenote: sister has a tattoo and husband does not, but always says he wants one).  There's just nothing about a tattoo that's classy.  But let's assume that you'll never be a pearl/suit wearing, high profile, important charity founder or whatever.  My husband argues that tattoos are "sexy" despite his constant mocking of my friend's tattoo.  I argue that between a tattooed girl and an un-tattooed girl of equal looks, I would always choose the latter.  I just don't know how that could be sexy... FOREVER.  I can honestly say that I have rarely seen a "cool" tattoo and I have NEVER seen one that I could live with for the rest of my life.

There is NO tattoo that would be compatible with every mood, every outfit, every occasion, every phase of life.  There is just no such thing.  In fact, most the people I know that have tattoos want them removed but again, $$$ (not to mention pain).

Also, and this is my main point, I don't understand why people my age (or older) STILL want to go out and get a tattoo.  Haven't you changed as a person to know that your tastes will change, you situation will change?  Is there some weird need to grasp onto teenage years or rebellion?  Because I get teenagers getting tattoos.  They don't want to obey, don't know their place in the world, want to be different, feel a need to bond with friends they won't even have in 5 years, or get drunk and obtain a lifelong souvenir on spring break.  Could that possible describe people like my husband?  I just hoped that we were all past that.

Anyone?  Can anyone explain this to me?
