Overheard

While driving the cub scout carpool. (I can't believe Daniel is in scouts! I think that makes me feel older than almost anything else so far.)

Friend, Eli: I think they should give out toy Yodas with every Toyota. And these cars should all be green.

A nice discussion followed. Eight years old = Star Wars on the brain!

Sarah: I'm all ready for high school.
Mom: Oh, really?
Sarah: I'm serious. I know so much about penguins. When I bring home my penguin book you're going to be amazed.

Amazing.

Swimming with Sharks

We had a wonderful day on Friday. Spencer took off a half day and we went to La Jolla Shores down by the Marine Room. We snorkled with the leopard sharks that come to the warm waters each summer. The water was warm and clear and we took this video of the swarming sharks. We had all the kids in the water on boogie boards. We would snorkle and let them know when to put their faces in the water to see the sharks. Very fun!

We also brought the kayak. At one point we had six kids on the kayak riding waves. There were multiple capsizings, but no major injuries. We were having so much fun that we didn't notice it was getting late until the sun was setting. Beautiful! We finished off the night at In-n-Out Burger. We sat outside and enjoyed the mid-80's air.

Zoo Fun

The zoo has a new elephant exhibit that includes huge animal sculptures for the kids to climb on.
It's funny because all the pictures I posted I realized were of fake animals. We really did go to see real animals, and enjoyed watching them. The big statues just make for better pictures with the kids I guess!

Spencer was almost crushed. It was a close one.




There was a hulu hoop contest and Sarah was determined, but lost out to an older girl.

The skyfari! Instead of trekking miles across the park to see if the polar bears were awake, we took a ride through the trees. Daniel wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but lived to tell about it.
Melanie loved it and Spencer said she was laughing the whole time.

Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July!

I know that it has been forever since I've posted! We had a crazy last month of school and summer has been wonderful but busy. Spencer was out of town the past two weeks and got back last night. We were all so happy to see him.

We had a fun 4th of July with family and friends, though we missed Dad and both Grandpas. My mom remembered Sister Hinckley telling about reminiscing with her family and President Hinckley didn't remember what they were talking about. She exclaimed, "Oh, you weren't there!" and laughed. We miss our busy men, but life with the kiddos goes on!

We were so happy that our friends and family would come over to celebrate the holiday!

Jen brought over a bag of clean empty syringes that make GREAT water guns! Some serious water fights ensued. Melanie liked playing with them too.
