Mason’s Sincerity

He threw a terrible, ugly fit today.  He’s been doing that more frequently lately.  We are moving him to a different class at school, but that is almost a different topic.  Ultimately, he’s been overly emotional and easily upset these days and today’s melt-down was a doozy.  Honestly, though, I paid him very little mind and let him exhaust his fury alone in his room.  He rejoined us when he regained control of himself.  I don’t know everything he said in his rage, but it must have been terrible, because later today he gave me this:

This sweet pop-out card was a complete surprise to me.  I really appreciate his honesty and humility.

We had a conversation in our home just today with a different child about how careful we must be with the things we say.  The conversation went well.  Our words, whether we mean what we say, or not, are SO powerful!   I was reminded of James Chapter 3, so I looked it up and appreciated reading the holy words:

1 My brethren, abe not many bmasters, knowing that we shall creceive the greater condemnation.

2 For in many things we aoffend all. If any man boffend not in cword, the same is a dperfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the agovernor listeth.

5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and aboasteth great things. Behold, how great a bmatter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the atongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8 But the atongue can no man tame; it is an bunruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith acurse we men, which are made after the bsimilitude of God.

10 Out of the same amouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a afountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good aconversation his works with bmeekness of wisdom.

14 But if ye have bitter envying and astrife in your hearts, bglory not, and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16 For where aenvying and bstrife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17 But the awisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and beasy to be intreated, full of cmercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without dhypocrisy.

18 And the fruit of arighteousness is sown in bpeace of them that make cpeace.

The Picture Worth A Thousand Words

We were on a walk.  Caden was wearing his necklace, found some glasses, and was holding his nuts.  His shirt says “Voted BEST DRESSED”.  Oh, and his theme song of the moment:  “La, la, la.  I got nuts.” (Sung to ‘Tonight, Tonight’ by the group Hot Chelle Rae.)  Yes, Son, yes you do.

Man, I love this kid!

Owen’s Cage?

Owen figured out how to open Cass’s cage.  He climbed right in with her!  Gross, I know!  He loved it, though, and I have had to drag him out of there a few times.  Now, we secure the rabbit’s cage with a different clip—one he can’t open.                                               001002003

And these photos are what happens when Caden grabs the camera.             004006007009010

A picture of a picture.  Why not?015

It’s called abstract art, right?

The Corner

When our boys (read Caden) misbehave, we sometimes have them stand in the corner for a time-out.  Owen has watched his brother do this many times, and has taken to trying it himself.003

One day, Owen had climbed on top of the table one-too-many times, so Jarom put him in the corner for his own short time-out.  We were so amused by Owen’s reaction.  Funny boy!

The Davey’s Came to Play

Mark and Kristi took Brandon up to BYU-I for a few days a few weeks ago.  They all stayed with us Saturday night and Sunday night and then Kristi, Mark and Brandon took off Monday morning, leaving Michelle, Ashley and Jessica to play with us for a few days!  And we had a great time! Our kids were supposed to be in school Monday through Wednesday (fall break was Thurs and Fri), but since cousin time like this is so rare we let them miss school Tuesday and Wednesday.  I can assure you, they didn’t mind.

We checked out the rabbits and chickens.  Michelle loved helping with the chickens all week.  I think she needs a few of her own.DSC_0715DSC_0718

We took a nice, long walk around our neighborhood.DSC_0721DSC_0724DSC_0726

Notice Caden’s box?  He wanted to wear it on our walk.  I should send this one into Huggies, eh?                                                      DSC_0731DSC_0736DSC_0738

Mason and Brandon wrestled.             DSC_0744DSC_0745DSC_0749DSC_0753DSC_0754DSC_0755DSC_0756

Tasty, Michelle?  DSC_0757DSC_0758

I wish we had an opportunity to take pictures like this one more often.DSC_0773

I think Hailey’s facial expressions in the next several photos are so funny!DSC_0783DSC_0784DSC_0785DSC_0786

SO sweet!  DSC_0788

I love all the love!                                         DSC_0789

Such cute buddies.  Mason sure loves his big cousin Brandon.DSC_0792DSC_0793DSC_0794

The next Tuesday while Mark, Kristi and Brandon were up at BYU-I, we met up with Jordan and Nikki Hummel at Jordan’s parents’ home.  There are big hairy dogs to snuggle…021024

Chickens to observe…026

and two horses that the kids got to ride!  Horses still make me quite nervous,028

and Caden was WAY too close for comfort in this picture.030

Nikki and I have decided that Caden and Dallie are going to get married after Caden’s mission.  Maybe? They really were holding hands.  I caught just the last nano-second of it.033

Yes, I am actually climbing into another horse pen.  The things we parents do for our kids…  Just consider this me getting back in the saddle.034036

Owen didn’t ride that day, since neither Jarom or I wanted to actually get on a horse.  Owen found another way to get injured, though.  040

He stood up in that green chair, it collapsed, and he smacked the back of his head against a sharp rock.  Sad smile053

I think the girls would have ridden those horses all day.  See me in there?  SCARY!!!042043

Looking good, Michelle!  She handled Noki great!047048

Doesn’t Jessica look so little on big Red?  She looks so natural, though.055057

Ashley rode Red too.  I was so impressed with these girls!  They really handled the horses so well!058061070

The next day we went for a hike.  It wasn’t a long hike but it was fun. And it’s literally less than five minutes from our home.071072073074076077078

Wednesday afternoon, Jarom took the kids (minus Owen) to the rec center to swim.  They said it was super fun.  I took a super fun nap.

Mark, Kristi and Brandon came back Wednesday and we were all able to celebrate Jessica’s birthday, which was really the next day (driving day).  DSC_0796DSC_0798DSC_0799DSC_0801DSC_0804DSC_0806DSC_0807DSC_0811DSC_0812DSC_0814DSC_0815

This is Jarom plucking a hair from Jessica’s head.  He said if he was able to break the burnt match with her hair, she’d have even more luck… or something…DSC_0816DSC_0817

The burnt match head broke off.  DSC_0818DSC_0820DSC_0826

Cousins!DSC_0827

Now Owen is in the picture, patting Michelle’s hair.  Hehe!DSC_0830DSC_0834DSC_0836

Anna spent the night with us too, on her way home to California.  We had a VERY full house!  Truly, though, we love being able to have so many friends and family stay with us.

The time flew too quickly, like it always does, and left us craving more family time.  How we love our family!!!
