Alex's 5th Birthday--the preparation & family celebration

This year Alex decided to have a Medieval Knights Birthday Party. We don't always do "friend" parties around here, but Alex has made some close little friends this last year, especially with his preschool group, so we decided to do it up big. I made these fun invitations and then rolled them up like a scroll and tied them with ribbon. Alex LOVED delivering them to all his fellow knights and princess friends.

Alex had a birthday coupon for Red Robin restaurant, so his close friends Cayson and Lily came with us a few days before the big day for a little "mini-celebration."

Sebastian had his first lemon wedge!

Alex practiced all his "knight" moves and taught Sebastian how to ride a horse.

Then we decorated and had our traditional birthday breakfast family celebration with Sandy and Robert.

All of the heartfelt sibling gifts were very sweet!

We love you with all of our hearts Alex! We are so proud of what a tender-hearted and loving boy you are. You are a precious treasure that we will always hold close to our hearts.

Isabelle's Farm Field Trip

We went to a farm I have never been to for Isabelle's field trip this year. I was impressed with the quality of the program and how well organized they were. We started out with a hay ride through some beautiful, hilly countryside on the farm property.

Then they took us to a barn with stadium seating, where the farmers were very engaging and informative. The kids were able to see them shear a sheep and milk a cow (she even sprayed some milk into the crowd of kids). They got a rooster to crow and they took little squealing piglets out of a playpen and explained how they adopted a few each year and had to keep them in the farmhouse for a while to feed them through the night. They had the kids participate by shaking a bottle of cream to make butter. They had a mama goat and her baby up on a walkway above them. They explained that it was the kid's first time being up there, and we all about had a heart attack when he fell halfway during the presentation. He was not hurt though! They really did a fabulous job!

Sebastian really loved this dog that was part of the audience!
After the presentation we had a picnic lunch and could walk around to the farm buildings to visit the animals. It was a little chilly and muddy, but we still had a great time!

Backyard BBQ

Who says you need grass, a deck or even a BBQ pit to have a cookout in your own backyard? We certainly don't! We had a great time after a family run in April cooking some hot dogs and roasting marshmallows out back.

Sebastian loves hot dogs!
Sebastian could just barely get up in this little camp chair. It was so cute!

Everyone loved it when he tried to blow out the fire like a candle. He brings so much joy into our family!

After marshmallows the kids took us on a nature walk through the back of our property along the little river.
 It was a beautiful evening!
