Postcard

I liked the shapes and geometry of this view and wanted to share them with you. The view of the garden near the church of Christ the Savior in foreground; the bridge over Moskva-river leading to the Church to the right; the red brick buildings of Red October ex-factory behind the bridge, the President Hotel in the background. Plus greens everywhere.

Michurinsky prospect

Sunny crisp midday in the suburb (not sure about translation - I mean Moscow 'bedroom districts" in contrast to busy centre). This suburb called "Ramenki", located in the west of the city and considered prestigious place to live in.
Moscow was founded and developed on the hills. This hills scenery is so pleasing for "I would like to have wings" viewers like me.
But. Few days already there is no wind. Do you see this romantic light-lilac haze around the buildings? It is smog, best friend of any big city in the absence of the wind :-(

Don't miss your chance to enjoy autumn park before weather turned to rainy!

Moscow river

Last Monday was so great that even Moscow river looked blue in the center of the city! It can be counted next to miracle, I believe.

If you take a ride on a ferry wheel, you'll see the city from an unusual point of view. This is Sokolniki park with apartment buildings and hotels behind.

Going out of city

There is always a mistery about railroads. It's like an endless expectation of something exciting to tempt you every time you go by.

Sunset

Doesn't it look a bit African to you? You know, those famous pictures of giraffes and baobab trees silhouettes against the setting sun? It feels something similar somehow.

I don't know what cause such reddish effect, must be smog or dusty air, but the view is magnificent!

Find a crow

Can you see the crow in this picture? I bet it was posing for me!

In winter park (Sokolniki)

Well, it seems that spring is not in a hurry to settle in Moscow area. Although days are significantly longer now, no total snow melting has been noticed yet. I desperately hope for weather turning warm and spring-like soon.

Landscape with chimnies

This far from scenic view or its variety have to observe most residents of my neighbourhood. Those chimnies are nearly 250(!) meters high and belong to Heat and Power plane located nearby. That plant is one of the biggest in Europe, it provides with electricity and warmth the north-east part of the city and really is something to be proud of. But in the meantime the plant have a noticable negative effect on local ecology, and people living nearby suffer from everpresent dust and terrible humidity. It's great to have such a monster to supply all your needs but why not move it away from the people?

Monochrome landscape

Well, in fact, this is coloured photo but it looks exactly like black&white one. That's the peculiarity of Moscow winter: it makes everything seem monochrome.

Winter sunset

It's been few days now since weather turned really wintry and frozy: the temperature is about -10C, and now and then sun shows in the sky. I took an opportunity and went to the nearest park named Losinyi Ostrov (means 'Elk Island'). I really enjoyed my walk among snowy trees, taking deep breath of crispy air.
And here is a photograph for you.

Wednesday, 5 November 2008

It's getting colder over here. The temperature is slightly above freezing, and sky is winter-like. Most trees are bare by now, though you can still find green lawns somewhere.

P.S. Another version on my extension site.

Another photo of Tsaritsyno park. This one shows new constructions (bridge and fontain), as well as old buildings (on the background).

Tsaritsyno

And here is Tsaritsyno park itself. It was rather abandoned for a long time but a few years back there began a great reconstruction. Ponds were cleared, trees and bushes partly cut to give way lawns, palace (which stood half-constructed for 300 years!) was completed. Except this palace thing and elimination of hundreds trees, park was really improved.
