Weekend Report
Though I am not a Neo Solider, but I except the title of being their future.

Thursday
After hearing how well the female poets put it down the night before (especially Tee) we began. Being asked to be apart of the collaboration for Women & Their Work was an honor. Exciting enough they (she) believed in me. I, this compulsive poet, was determined to make her (them) proud of me. I took constructive criticism, I became apart of a team to do team pieces. I evolved myself into what I thought I couldn't do, or what I thought was going to be to hard for me to do...but i did it. And so as our last official practice on this day I found myself confident and sure of this team-working with them was amazingly fun! No stress, no worries, more than poetry. Crack jokes...Laid back pressure (does that make sense?). I really got to see how things work and how team work is done (for the most part). And so, it's show time tomorrow. I think we're ready dude.
Friday
I didn't work today, just caught up on some school work, went over some pieces, and put my frame of mind into perspective for tonight. Lay out my shirt, jeans, boots, and hat...walk me through the motions in my mind without the words. And it was time to go. We practiced onstage, outside, and then mingled with the the team from Atlanta. Those familiar faces were much appreciated too. Introduce the "Neo Soul Collective" (I am the collective part-smile). And it was time to do our thing. I felt good about it, I was nervous at first, then came into my own skin...being next to you was awesome. We did that...that damn neo. Ya'll were awesome. The Atlanta crew put it down, and I really enjoyed them. Home girl who do the poetry ROCK THE SHIT outta her pieces-bout tears to my eyes on one. Later, pressures off, and I had a lot of good feedback on how we (I) did. That meant a lot to me to hear. Dinner (southside)-thank ya...was cool and again, you were next to me (the experience has made me feel closer to you). Good nights.
Saturday
Go over that school work and ate the breakfast he cooked. It was time to go out on such a pretty day. Walking to the dumpster is even better with you walking with me. I've been emotional about the thought of me and you...tears always form-you make me happy. Left for Beecaves (just to ride) and see new scenery. David's Bridal for swatches, Kinko's for mom's retirement invitations (just to get some ideas), then back to the apt. Go over that school work, go over those poem, and watch that DVD. Throw on those jeans, that shirt, those boots, go over the motions without the words and its time to go. Practice onstage, in the back, saw some familiar faces (thank you to all who came)...and it's time to perform. On the floor this time, K.I.M did her thang, JoeB I hope we all did your pieces it's justice, and Trey the human beat box was off the chain. David recorded both nights so it's available to see. Introductions, I'm Ebony, the "she's the future of Neo-Soul." Thank you for the experience.
Sunday
Trying to fulfill my resolution, we went to church and got fed good messages to live by. Went to lunch, stop by the in-laws, do that school work, complain to mama, blog those pages, cook that food, and Q that T, say those "I love yous," and thank thy creator.
Until next weekend.

THIN LINE

He wraps “I love yous”
Around your every breath,
With innocent claims of forever,
And I’d never lie or cheat on you baby.
He adores your every kiss.
Stitching loyalty into your mind…
So you got yo man right where you want him…

So then why the f*ck he keep callin me!?
He stay tryin to please,
And I ain’t did nothing but,
Gave him some nookie.
Now he wrapped around short pinkies
And he won’t go away!
I’m just sayin if he yours put him in his place.

And let the record show,
I didn’t even know about you…
Okay well,
Maybe I did.
But shit…
He talked up a good game,
And came through all the same,
Homeboy been payin my bills since ’02.
Look,
I’m sure he still loves you,
But if I was you…
Woman to woman…
I wouldn’t put up with that girl.

So why you mad at me?
I tried to talk about you,
But he never wanted to.
And I figured as long as my lights would come on,
I shouldn’t mess up a good thing.

I mean,
I’m just sayin if he yours put him in his place.

Plus, it ain’t my business what go on between ya’ll anyway.
Look,
I never called your house,
Slept in your bed,
Or even rode in your car…
And I even looked away when ya’ll came to sit at the bar.

Consider me a friend,
Lets make amends.
I’m no threat to you,
And your definitely no threat to me.
So let me put him on the phone,
So you can tell him how you feel.

CHAMELEON
I am always noticed
but outcasted in the same respects.
Pictured as the only spec in the classroom,
I am known as the:
less fortunate shadow,
challenging the intelligence of segregation.
Nominated to fail,
excel,
or comprehend.

Language spoken,
unspoken
My major is English...
without the utterance of Ebonics,
So my name doesn't get called much,
But is often mispronounced.
So I sit,
studiously,
impatiently,
learning how to be that only evil spirit in the classroom.
"What big nose she has,
What strange clothes she wears,
And where are her flip-flops?"

Constant stares at the financial aid,
student loan,
soon they predict-the College Drop Out Kanye West was talkin about.
He was right:
"Racism still alive they just be concealin it."

Still,
Black girls- pull your hair up in raggedy pony tails,
Black boys- throw on those J's,
Put a smile on your face...
And do that dance!
All the while knowing:
Tupac, 50cents, Mike Jones...Who?....Mike Jones trivia.
Along with Black Histories own:
Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, and Rosa Parks studies...
since those are the only type of questions you are expected to know, and answer.
Look down in shame anytime talk of slavery comes about,
even if you proud to be the granddaughter of one.
And for extra credit:
Laugh at your white "superiors" corny ass jokes,
And add a nice touch by suckin his butt.

What about your race!
My race?
Well my race encourages and discourages me in the same respects.
Saying,
"Reach for the stars baby, you can do any thang."
"Live the life of a Nubian queen"
But
Don't forget to be that queen of ass shakin,
money makin-
spendin time on spinnin rims,
Yea they 15's...
But they clean right.
keep a grip on that pig,
cause that's where the ticket is.
You be the best damn puppet you can be.

And after that,
Well after that then maybe things will make sense...
Or maybe I'll be called on.

Weekend Report
It been a long one...
After a Thursday night of practice, acceptance and bonding, I woke up on Friday to go an run some errands. That of which consisted of buying my books, getting gas, and renting movies for David and I later to watch. I had a decision of a wedding dress put before me, and it may have been worked out-I'll tell you guys about it later. Once he got home, we worked out (at the gym Angel...I know how your mind works-lol) then went grocery shopping. David made me laugh by doing his impressions of: Kris Kross, McLyte, and Jet Li. We watched Jet Li's Fearless, and then David challenged me...he thinks he knows Wooshoo! He helped me go over my duties of memorizing a poem or two...though he doesn't do you well Auntie, he sure was trying LOL! Now we await perfection...
Saturday
I awoke to cold weather and breakfast traveling back to the gym to keep up with my resolution. Then we ventured into the world of REGISTRY for the wedding. Our wish list can be found at Target or Bed Bath n Beyond. It was sooo much fun...it felt like a shopping spree, only we returned with nothing but a list of the things that we wished we had-lol. Still, it was fun, and him and I bonded by making decisions together, compromising and acting a damn fool! He cooked us dinner and we watched television...more lave' together. And practiced of a poem...per...
Sunday
No church but we did go workout! After that we decided to go to Burlington to get something for the house, but ummmm we didn't see anything. We got an invite from an invite through Auntie, but he was cautious of the drive so we stayed. Wishing we were there...seafood is my weakness! How was it anyway? Booo to us renting more movies and yeaaaa to us having all this QT to add to our list. I got a phone call from my God Brother and Sister (Marcus & Christeen)...and they promised to be at the July 7th event. Once we got back to the apt we watched My Super Ex Girlfriend...I cooked, and we lave'd. Practiced on the poem...perfec....
Monday
Text messages for me to slap somebody...didn't happen, but made me laugh. We again worked out, this time my body is sore! Too many crunches! With leftovers to eat, we watched Pirates of the Caribbean...which bored me into a-coma! This many days spent with him...a good thing! A phone call from one of the churches sayin that we couldn't have it there...so I guess it'll be at my roots. Disappointed, but not much, we worked on invitations and its wording...pricing, and read emails from my Aunt Billie about her contributing to the wedding fund! She is an angel disguised in human form! Got a DJ...go DJ! The wedding dress decision gets more confusing. Reality TV and tuna sandwiches...a long day, good to know that school has been cancelled! Play UNO...who wants some? So instead of reading over syllabus I (we) perfected my duties of the poem. As soon as you gave me the words I've been determined to learn them. Call it a compulsion, or just wanting to make you proud. Poem...perfected-now on to delivery....
Tagged By Cousin...what the hell I'll play

CATCH UP EBONY DAMNNNNNNN!
WHAT WE DID FOR NEW YEARS! AND YOU?
You are the reason that this past year has been so meaningful. So having a picnic in the middle of the floor, watching movies, and eating chocolate covered strawberries that we made together with Sparkling Cider to wash it down has been the most romantic sentimental New Year's Eve ever.
And though I miss my family, I'm thankful for you being my family. And though you could never take their place, You made me laugh as my sister would, comforted me as my mom would, and treated me like a baby as my brother wood.
Thank you...
So what did you do?
