Originally it was the cuts, and I put words between. And then suddenly I thought, I know, I'll put the same amount of dashes as the words have. ANd now I've kind of forgotten what the original words were although I might be able to figure them out :) But that's kind of the point I guess...the scars left behind.

Yes, very interesting. You let the reader know what's going on, but without spelling out what 'she' said. Or whether she said it out loud at all.
