Staying Busy

Staying busy is easy to do. Volunteering is the best way to do so. I have been working with Family Search Indexing for a number of years but had to quit for awhile when my other computer conked out. I finally was able to download the program to my laptop and I am busy again. The indexing               program is easier than the old extraction program where you wrote everything out by hand. It is all now done on the computer which makes it much easier and simpler. I have indexed over 15,000 records since I began a while ago and I only started back two weeks ago after a period of inactivity because of my eyes. I have now had cataract surgery and am doing fine. Family Search is collaborating with Ancestry.Com on some records they needed indexed. In two weeks I have been able to index 1900 records on the California, Missouri and Oklahoma 1930 census records. There are many more projects to do including marriage, death and census records.
We began the indexing program when I was serving in the Salt Lake Family History Mission beginning in 2001. It has really progressed since that time and millions of names have been indexed and put on the internet for others to use in searching their family history. I am enjoying working on this and they are wanting other indexers to volunteer. This is simular to the extraction program where you entered everything on paper and then it was put on the computer.

January 1950

As I was thumbing thru some pictures made shortly after I was married 7 January 1950. I came across this picture of me and my mother. This was our house in Kelsey where we lived at the time. I was living in Gilmer and working at Barnwell Drug Store on the square. We came out to visit mother and daddy that day. Mother looks as young as I do in this picture. She never actually looked her age. I don't think she had any wrinkles when she passed away at the age of eighty nine. This picture tells its own story. She always kept herself looking nice and always had her make up on and a nice pretty dress. She believed you should always look your best. She went to the beauty shop to get her hair fixed until she could no longer do it. She wanted her hair colored too. She did it herself in the early years. She passed away the day before Thanksgiving in the year 2000.

Be Thankful, Prepare Every Needful Thing...

Watching the news about the storms today I am thankful we were passed by. There were storms close by on Tuesday and we were all very fortunate. Savannah and Jeremy were very close to several of the storms. It seemed every few minutes they were talking about a storm at Gun Barrel City and Mabank and the storm over the lake was near their property. It is in the same subdivision. We need to all be prepared for these storms. We are taught by Church Authorities to always be prepared for any eventualty, not just storms. I wish I were more prepared.

A Better Day Ahead...

Looking forward to what life brings in the future. I am thinking of some new moves and hope they work out. Moving is a big decision but I have neveer let it stand in my way before. I cannot name the times I have moved in the sixty one years since I married in 1950. It seems moving is always a new start. A good way to clean house and rid yourself of unwanted items and buy more. One day you will surely run out of money if you keep buying too much. I love a change of scenery and being able to plant flowers and paint rooms and rearranging things. I think though I am getting to old. Too much work goes along with moving. I don't know if I could do it again. JUST THINKING.

TGIF

Thank Goodness It Friday!
Friday has always been my favorite day of the week. When I was a  young teenager it was dance night at the old Kelsey School. We looked forward to dancing and then walking home with our favorite boy friend. School was out for the week and then Church on Sunday at the Old Kelsey Church on the hill. We could wear jeans on friday to school. The fashion at the time was one leg rolled up, no one now would do that. They wear jeans with holes now, the more holes the better. We would never have worn  jeans with holes, unless that was all we had. That would be a sign you couldn't afford any better, which was probably true at times.

Miracles happen

Elijah was carried to surgery at about 7:00 AM this morning and was through by 11:30 AM which was record time for this type of surgery. He is doing very well and headed to ICU and can have visitors in about an hour. He is growing like a weed and now weighs close to 14 lbs. Babies with heart problems usually do not grow this fast. IT SEEMS LIKE A MIRACLE TO ME. I watched Jack Jr and Savannah have open heart surgery and I believe things have really progressed since the 1980's. I pray Elijah will continue to progress the way he is doing.

New Beginnings

This is a new adventure for me. I suppose you never get too old to learn. I hope I can learn the ins and outs of this blogging thing. I just finished an adventure by walking in the Tyler Relay For Life on my daughter Cheryl's team. That was quite an experience.
