On a roll

The Kadets recovered from their loss last week against Pueblo South and came out ready to beat Mesa Ridge. We won 42-13 making our record 8-1. Nobody can remember Air Academy football having this good of a record in years. We have one more game next Friday and hopefully we can win that one too and have a great seed for the playoffs.

The most exciting part last night that I've been waiting for all season is that Jared made the news! All three news stations were there and he finally got on TV. Jared has gotten quite a bit of celebrity status since becoming the waterboy. When we were leaving the game last night a bunch of the kids and their parents were cheering for Jared and telling him how awesome he does. The announcer even had the crowd yell for Jared again! It's been so fun for him. Here is the link of him on the news: http://www.krdotv.com/Global/category.asp?C=93323&nav=menu552_3 It's the second video titled High School Football Highlights 10/26/07. It's the second game they highlight. Enjoy!

I love tights!

I just had to post these pictures. As you can see in the first picture, Liza is assisting Barry while he draws up defensive plays for their upcoming game this Friday. I love how she has her hand on the computer and the other on the play book. The second picture I thought was just too adorable! I went shopping for Liza yesterday to get her some warm winter clothes and found some dresses. And it wasn't a moment too soon because we got our first snow today. She was definitely in need of some warm things. My favorite thing about the outfit is the tights. I've never been able to buy stockings for a baby. It was so fun!!! Her legs looked too cute in them. It just so happened that I had the perfect pair of shoes that were given to me and she just looked way cute today. I didn't want to put her in her jammies tonight but I knew that it just wasn't practical to have her sleep in her church clothes.

Coming up short....

We had a HUGE game last night against undefeated Pueblo South. It was a disappointing game to watch and with our 4 turnovers we just couldn't pull it together. One of the turnovers was a flubbed snap to the punter that went way over his head and he was tackled somewhere around the 20 yard line. He tried to recover the snap but just couldn't get any motion and was tackled too quickly. Although the silver lining is that we still have a great record that we haven't had in a very long time. Final score: 14-28. Here is a link to the article in the paper today: http://www.gazettepreps.com/articles/yards_210___article.xml/riley_academy.html
Hopefully this loss with motivate our boys to win out. We have two games left in regular season and we should still go to the playoffs. It ain't over yet!

Playgroup and a hike!

Since Jared has been on vacation the past two weeks we've been trying to find things to do so that I don't go crazy. I've come close but luckily Colorado Springs is full of wonderful things to do. Yesterday our ward's playgroup met at Mr.Bigg's family fun center. It's a cheap day, only costing $5 per child 3 and up and I only had to pay for myself for the all you can eat pizza and salad buffet. The kids had a great time playing at "Little Big Town". They can dress up and most importantly, run! It was great to come home with exhausted kids and take naps, mostly because Barry and I had stayed up late Monday night to watch the Rockies win the National League Series. More on that later!

Today I took the boys on a small hike near Cheyenne Mountain here in Colorado Springs. The highlight of the hike was the waterfall called Helen Hunt Falls. It was a fairly easy hike for the kids and it was a beautiful drive up a narrow canyon. The leaves were gorgeous on the drive up to the falls. Upon getting there I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the waterfall. The whole time I kept tell myself that I couldn't believe that we've lived here for 6 years and never seen or heard of it. I'm resolved to find the secret beauties of our area and experience them! And again I came home with tired kiddo's ready for naps! YIPPEE!

Back to the Rockies...we are so excited that the Rockies are giong to the World Series that in fact I'm going to try to purchase tickets for Barry to go. The cheap tix are going for $65. Barry has a bunch of friends that all want to go also. I think it would be a great "man date"! I'll let you know if I can even get the tickets. It's a long shot, but I figure how many times does a person get the opportunity to go to the World Series and watch history being made?

Massive Mastiff

We thought that we'd introduce the newest member of our family, for the week. This is Leah as in Princess Leah (I'm not sure I'm even spelling it right, oh well it's not my dog). She is our neighbor's dog. We are dog sitting for the week while they are at Disneyland. Leah is the best dog ever and as you can see from her sheer size you would never guess that she is still a puppy. She is a Mastiff. I believe she weighs around 90 pounds, that's not even all three kids combined. Payton loves her and it so funny to watch the two of them. Payton will walk right up to Leah's face, which is taller than he is, and say "Sit Leah!" and she does. It's hilarious! Liza is completely fascinated by her in this picture and once again we have yet another picture of Payton not looking at the camera, surprise, surprise!

Also, here is a funny story about Payton yesterday at church. The nursery leaders are trying to assist the kids transition into primary for the next two months so that they are prepared come January. Jared took Payton to singing time but never took him to sit with his class. He then stayed when the rest of his class left to go back to nursery for the day and went with Jared for the last hour. Nobody even noticed. When church was over we went to get Payton and the teacher said that Payton never came to class. We began searching the halls and other classrooms for him. Barry in the meantime found him with Jared and took them to the car. I decided to go and check the car to eliminate that. I then returned to the church only to find the teachers in a panic. I then reassured them that he was safe and with Barry and told them how he managed to skip class. Already we have a little rebel rouser!
Quote for the day: "bless Dad that he can drink his Coke". This was a portion of Payton's prayer tonight!

Better look twice!

Everytime I go to a store someone always tells me how much Liza looks like me. One time I was told that we were genius' because I had cloned myself. It was rather funny. I didn't realize this until my mom sent me a picture of me when I was a baby. Wow!!! She really does look like me. What do you think?

If it's FREE, it's for ME!

Today we ventured up north to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. I went with my friend Carri and her 5 kids and her mother. I was a little worried to tell the truth about doing the drive by myself and going through the exhibits without Barry with me. It was a free day and I had this feeling that everyone and their dog would be there, and much to my surprise it wasn't all that packed. The place is huge. It's three levels and full of fascinating things. There is a fantastic dinosaur and fossil exhibit, a space odessey, Egypt, the body and how it works, and tons of stuffed animals in their respective habitat and much more. Right now there is a traveling exhibit of The Titanic which costs extra and we didn't splurg. Although I'm sure it was very cool. There is also a really neat kids zone for the kids to do hands-on exploring.

The kids paired off with a "buddy" and had a fabulous time with each other. I was totally surprised that we didn't have one tantrum or meltdown the whole day. Even the babies were perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better day! Thanks kiddos for making it worth the effort!!!

Still undefeated!

The Kadets had a great game last night. It was a big win for us. Barry was pretty nervous for this one Thursday night. I always think that the longer a team goes undefeated the more the next team wants to beat you. We had a rough first half with two fumbles one of which Rampart scored after an 11-yard drive. The boys came out of halftime with their heads in the game. We have a really great group of boys this year and they have some great leaders and chemistry. Rampart was unable to score again and they only had the ball for 9 minutes in the second half. That's huge! Our defense was able to get a safety after the punt was on the 1 yard line. It was a fun game to watch and the weather was great. The final score was 29-7. We hope we can keep up this streak and make it to playoffs, even if it does extend the season! :)

Jared is also having a great time being the water boy. Last night he ran out with the team through the cheerleaders and they even put their pom-poms down at his level for him! He loves being out there with his dad. He was bummed when the game was over and it was time for us to leave and for Barry to go to the school, so we decided that he could go with Barry to the office. It will most likely be the last time he'll go, mostly because it can get a little colorful in there. OOPS!

It will give some of the stats for the game!

Sittin' pretty

It's kinda hard to see, but she is really sitting all by herself. It only lasts for about 15-20 seconds until she falls backwards. When she gets wobbly she will put her hand on the floor to catch herself. It's pretty cute.

Smartie Pants

Today I had the wonderful opportunity to go to my first parent/teacher conference. I've kept up on most of the things that Jared is doing in school, but it gets a little difficult to stay abreast when I receive no answer when I ask "What did you do in school today?" Actually the response I get is "I don't remember", to which I'm always amazed because I ask this as soon as I pick him up from school. Oh well.

His teacher, Mrs. Shearer, reviewed his report card with me. In all of the things that they are doing thus far he received "E"=exemplary, "P"=proficient, or "+". He also received a "A"=advanced, in art.

He is also doing things that most of the class isn't close to doing yet, like writing all his letters, counting, and reading. He is in a group called AIM and he leaves class four days a week to go to the library to read. His handwriting is also exceptional for a kindergartener and his teacher is pleased with his work. If I can figure out how to scan some of his schoolwork, I'll try to post it.

On another school related note she also stated that Jared is extremely kind and very outgoing while dealing with the other children on the playground. Speaking of the playground, Jared recently told us that the kids aren't allowed to play tag at recess. They've outlawed it! Can you believe it? Although Jared has told me that the girls chase him at recess and one day caught him and yelled, "We love you Jared!" Jared also got a card from a girl in his class yesterday. It was pretty cute. She drew her and Jared playing together. So not only is he a little smartie pants, he's a chick magnet too! Like father like son!
