Fresh from being proved a liar, Richard Barnbrook has announced that he intends to contest the Barking constituency in the general election
Barking is a top BNP electoral target. Strangely, however, neither the BNP’s national website nor its London Patriot site, nor even Barnbrook’s own official blog, which has not been updated since May, mention the launch of the Barking and Dagenham councillor’s general election campaign. Barnbrook has splashed out on a billboard in Barking. Next to a picture of him in his trademark brown suit are the words “Barnbrook for Barking”. What is missing is any reference to the BNP, prompting speculation that he thinks his own brand image is better than that of the BNP.
Barnbrook, who is also the BNP’s sole London Assembly member, is currently serving a one-month suspension from Barking and Dagenham council for inventing murders in the borough to whip up concern about crime and gain support for his racist party.
He clearly intends to continue on the same path. The announcement of his candidacy appears on his my.telegraph blog under two pictures of Barnbrook standing in front of the billboard. In one he has pulled his shirt open (underneath the brown suit) to reveal a t-shirt with what appears to be a gun and a knife in a crossed-through red circle.
Under the picture he writes, ridiculously, that people who find themselves in the vicinity of the A406 in Barking in the next week “will be subjected to the unforgettable (!) sight of a giant rotating billboard display of my likeness, which will dominate the landscape, proclaiming 2 of the issues I feel passionate about- Standing up for the Elderly and my Campaign against Knife-Crime.”
Naturally Barnbrook cannot resist another lie with the claim that he has “lived in the constituency for 6 years”. In fact Barnbrook did not move out of his council home in Lewisham, south London, until the end of 2007, despite being elected as a councillor in May 2006. He and his BNP councillor colleague Robert Bailey cheated to qualify to stand in the election by renting a dilapidated flat in the borough just in time to get themselves on the electoral register. Neither of them ever lived in it.

Richard Barnbrook - the BNP's third highest elected official - has been exposed fabricating three murders in a high profile BNP campaign. He has been found guilty of bringing both the Greater London Authority and the Barking and Dagenham Council into disrepute - his lies show the depths the BNP are willing to stoop to in their vile propaganda war.Over the last four years the BNP has made substantial gains in East London by whipping up fears and telling lies.
Now they have been caught out and we must make them pay. We have raised an appeal to raise £5,000 to print 150,000 leaflets to distribute around London. We want every household in Barking & Dagenham to know the truth about the lying BNP. We also want to warn the voters in other key areas of London exactly how low the BNP will go in order to win votes and stoke up fears within commnunities.
With the London elections now only just over seven months away there is really no time to lose. Please help us produce the leaflets we need:

Murder claim BNP politician suspended

London Assembly member Richard Barnbrook [pictured left] said in a video three people had been murdered in three weeks. But figures revealed there were no serious attacks weeks before the video.
The council where he sits, Barking and Dagenham, has suspended him for October and the Assembly has censured him and told him to receive ethics training. The Greater London Authority said he should be censured for his behaviour, make a written apology which should appear on the Assembly's website and his personal blog and take the training in ethics and standards in public office.
Barking and Dagenham Council decided he must repeat the apology on his blog or risk the suspension being extended and can conduct no formal business at the authority during October or use its facilities.
In the video he said: "In Barking and Dagenham alone three weeks ago, there was a murder of a young girl. We don't know who's done it, her girlfriend was attacked inside an educational institute. Again, two weeks ago there was another attack by knives on the streets of Barking and Dagenham where two people were murdered."
The video of Mr Barnbrook was also posted on the video-sharing website YouTube.
In his defence, Mr Barnbrook said that in the first claim the person was killed outside the area in Newham and details had "come out wrong". He also said he spoke "too soon" about the other two "murders", as the victims were on life support at the time.

Dark family secrets of BNP leader Griffin

BNP leader Nick Griffin, who last week branded gypsies “anti social and criminal”, can trace his roots to travellers hawking cheap goods from a horse and cart.
The controversial MEP’s great-grandfather George Griffin roamed from town to town in a horse-drawn caravan with his wife Esther and their children, selling china and crockery. Census reports show he spent years living the gypsy life, never settling in one place because as an impoverished traveller he was on the margins of society and never fully accepted anywhere.
Last week Griffin, 50, who condemned attacks on Romanian gypsies in Northern Ireland, said: “We have to bear in mind that the gypsy community is notorious for its extremely high rate of criminality and antisocial behaviour. Everyone in Romania and eastern Europe knows this and it is one reason why their governments are so keen to encourage them to come over here.”
Yet between 1868 and 1874 records show his great-grandfather represented just such a minority. He travelled in one caravan with his family while his business partner, Mary Ann Hollis, travelled in another.
George habitually lied about his age, describing himself as 25 in the 1871 Census, 41 a decade later, 47 in the 1891 Census and 58 in 1901. He plied his precarious trade in Devon and Cornwall and could often be found parked outside the London Inn pub in Liskeard. The 1871 Census shows the caravans were parked next to the Cornish pub, noting: “Six persons not in houses”. In the column marked “Houses” it reports them as living in vans.
While George lived with Esther, 22, and his 10-month-old son George Junior in one, Mary Ann Hollis, 37, was in the second with George’s three-year-old daughter Mary Ann Griffi n and a William Huxham, 16.
He is described as a servant but probably earned his keep selling wares. In the Census column marked “Rank, profession or occupation” George is a “licensed hawker dealing in china and crockery ware”. His lifestyle would not have fitted with the intolerant views of Mr Griffin and the British National Party which does not accept black people as members. Griffin has called for an immediate halt to immigration, and voluntary resettlement of immigrants legally living in Britain.
When told this week of Mr Griffin’s heritage, shocked BNP deputy leader Simon Darby said: “That will please him.”
Genealogy expert Nick Barratt added: “George Griffin travelled around, scratching a living. His group will have roamed from street to street like ragtag travellers trying to survive on their wits and selling their wares. And it is highly likely he spent many more years living the life of a traveller before he married. Today we would call his group travellers and just like today they would have been marginalised on the edge of society and seen as outsiders. They will have been treated with a degree of suspicion and as a minority.”

BNP politician could be suspended from Assembly after inventing three murders

Labour councillor accuses Richard Barnbrook of 'openly and outrageously' lying to 'whip up fears in the London community'The most senior elected member of the British National party could face suspension from the London assembly for up to six months after he admitted inventing three murders to highlight knife crime, it emerged today.
A joint investigation by the Greater London authority and Barking and Dagenham council has concluded that Richard Barnbrook brought his office and the respective authorities into disrepute after falsely claiming in an interview that three murders had taken place over a three week period in the Barking and Dagenham area.
Barnbrook was elected to the London assembly last year and is also a councillor in Barking and Dagenham.
The findings relating to the BNP's highest profile member in elected office will be a blow to the party just a day after it used its European and local government election launch to attempt to present itself to the electorate as a credible alternative to mainstream parties following the debacle over MPs' expenses.
The complaint against Barnbrook was first lodged last September after he claimed in an interview posted on YouTube and his own website that a girl had been murdered within the borough within the past three weeks. "We don't know who's done it. Her girlfriend was attacked inside an educational institute," Barnbrook said in the prerecorded interview in which he sought to highlight failings in tackling knife crime.
He also said that two weeks previously "there was another attack by knives on the streets of Barking and Dagenham where two people were murdered".
Valerie Rush, a Labour cabinet member at the local authority, accused Barnbrook of "openly and outrageously" lying to "whip up fears in the London community". In her complaint to the GLA and the council, Rush said Barnbrook had acted in a way which brought his honesty and integrity as a councillor into disrepute.
Barnbrook, who is one of twelve BNP councillors in Barking and Dagenham, said that he knew at the time that he made the statements that "there had been no fatalities in Barking and Dagenham", according to a report documenting the investigation into the complaint (pdf).
Barnbrook nevertheless refused to apologise for the statements "until knife crime is over".
This meant that the interview – filmed by Simon Darby, the BNP's deputy leader, who works part-time for Barnbrook in the London assembly – was posted on the internet despite Barnbrook knowing the statements were incorrect, the report noted.
The Metropolitan police confirmed that there had been no murders or incidents resulting in critical injuries requiring intensive care in the time period cited, and that murders in the area were actually decreasing.
By the time the draft investigation report was published, Barnbrook had changed his position and claimed that he did not accept that "the inaccuracy of my statement was deliberate". He also stated: "I did not know that the data in the recording was incorrect. I would not have posted the recording if I had known that it was incorrect."
Barnbrook also insisted that "once I realised that the data was incorrect, the recording was removed from the internet on my instruction within 24 hours".
The investigation ruled that Barnbrook's original claim that he knew what he was saying was untrue "seems at odds" with the principles of honesty and integrity. "If the public were aware that Mr Barnbrook was in fact putting out statements that he knew were false, we consider that his could reasonably be regarded as undermining public confidence in both members and the authorities as a whole in being able to fulfil their function."
Barnbrook now faces a full hearing after the respective committees at the GLA and the London borough considered the investigation's report two weeks ago.
The report's findings prepare the way for one of a range of sanctions, including suspension from office for up to six months.

Poor Old Soul: The return of David Irving

The late comedian Frankie Howerd was well known for saying, “it’s wicked to mock the afflicted”.
It has long been tempting not only to call the rightwing quasi-historian David Irving a liar, in the words of the judgment in his failed libel action against Dr Deborah Lipstadt, but also to question his grasp on reality, particularly about his past and present political associations.
I admit I have a personal axe to grind. In 1964 I pleaded guilty with a colleague at Middlesex Sessions of entering Irving’s north London flat “by artifice” (not burglary as the far right insist). I also admitted stealing by finding a GPO telephone engineer’s pass. Charges against a third defendant, David Freedman, were dismissed, but for the past 44 years Irving has insisted that Freedman was also guilty. Well let’s not let the facts get in the way of Irving’s warped thinking.
Around ten years ago Irving said I had made his life a Holocaust for the previous 30 years, an accusation I happily accept. Now in his dotage Irving appears to be making a late bid to gain fame in place of his infamy – which brings to mind another Frankie Howerd phrase, from Up Pompeii!: “Infamy, infamy, they’ve all got it in for me”. Too right.
Some years ago Irving threatened to sue me and the publisher Pearson Longman over a chapter I had written in a book on the far right in Europe. I was able to provide documentary evidence of the truth of each of the points he claimed were defamatory of him, and demonstrate that he was associated with the extreme right in Britain.
What puzzled our libel lawyer was another reference to something Irving claimed I had written. It was at this point we wondered whether he was suffering from early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, as the passage complained of did not exist.
Irving is keen to distance himself from the BNP and claims on his website that he has “no point of contact whatever” with Nick Griffin, the BNP leader, or the BNP itself. Yet when he last tried to take the country by storm with a speaking tour in the early 1990s it was the BNP that made the arrangements for his meetings in London and Brighton.
One of Irving’s rallies was to be at Chelsea Old Town Hall. He had invited the US Holocaust denier and all-purpose fruitcake Fred Leuchter despite a ban on him entering the country. Leuchter claimed to have proved there were no gas chambers in the Nazi death camps in Poland. The meeting was packed with leading nazis from around the world, including John Tyndall, then the leader of the BNP. It broke up after a few minutes when Home Office officials and several police officers entered to remove Leuchter. He was deported a few days later.
Video evidence shows Griffin with Chris Marchant, a former Balkans War mercenary, telling Thames TV’s This Week that Irving had hired their new security firm to protect the meeting.
Irving’s failed attempt to hold a meeting at the Royal Warwicks Club in Coventry on 21 September in the wake of a small meeting in Rugby shows that he still has dealings with far-right extremists. The Rugby meeting was organised by Steve Kerr, a long-time nazi, as was the Coventry meeting booked under the guise of the “Military History Book Club”.
Irving’s speaking tour was set to continue with a meeting in Birmingham on 26 October followed by a second attempt in Coventry on 14 November, Liverpool on 26 November and Halifax. His website does not advertise that he has been invited to take part in a “free speech forum” at the Oxford Union on 27 November, to which an invitation to Griffin has already been withdrawn.
Irving recently moved into a ten-bedroom house in large grounds in Windsor, where he has already held a meeting and garden party for the rich suckers who continue to support this liar.
Irving’s position on the Holocaust has become a movable feast. He has threatened to sue The Jewish Chronicle if it calls him a Holocaust denier, though he reproduces on his website without comment a recent Guardian article that does just that. He now says he is not sure of the numbers killed. Our view is that to minimise the Holocaust by claiming that “only” two million died, or whatever number he plucks out of the air, is just another version of Holocaust revisionism. And two million in a planned genocide would still be two million too many.
I am sure all decent people will oppose this apologist for Hitler wherever he goes. Watch the Searchlight websites for news of his movements.

Protest against David Irving meeting in Coventry tonight

Tonight (Friday 21 September), with the help of the British National Party, David Irving, the notorious Holocaust denier and liar, is booked to speak at the Royal Warwicks Club in Coventry. Tomorrow night he intends to speak in Windsor, where he now lives.Since his release from prison in Austria late last year Irving has gone back to his old ways, addressing a large audience of antisemites in Hungary, before moving on to a book fair in Poland, from where he was expelled.
Back in the UK, Irving has so far spoken at a small meeting in Rugby and popped up in John Sweeney's Panorama programme, Weekend Nazis, signing his books for admiring men dressed up in SS uniforms.
The promise of an invitation to speak to the European Society at St Andrews University rapidly evaporated after the university "raised concerns" about "security and use of their property". However Irving boasts that he still has another invitation to participate in a debate at a so-far-unnamed university on 23 November.
Searchlight calls on people to protest against Irving being allowed to spread his poison in Coventry, a city that was badly bombed by the Nazis during the Second World War.
Phone the Royal Warwicks Club on 024 7622 0425 to tell the management what you think of the club giving space to this man and his Nazi supporters (though don't be rude to club staff who had no say in the booking and probably object just as much as you do).
If you want to protest outside, go to the Royal Warwicks Club, Tower Street, Coventry CV1 1JS. Doors open at 7pm.

BNP no show costs taxpayer thousands

Thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money has been spent on policing a proposed BNP demonstration which never took place.
Barking and Dagenham Police drafted in 69 extra officers from West London after the BNP announced earlier this month it would protest against the council’s decision not to let the party have a stall at last weekend’s Dagenham Town Show. The authority refused the BNP a stall as it was a non-political event, which angered BNP leaders as London Mayor Ken Livingstone had already received an invite.
But group leader Richard Barnbrook said he called off the campaign after Mr Livingstone cancelled his appearance. Mr Barnbrook insisted he informed the police 48 hours before the proposed rally of his intentions not to attend to avoid ‘unnecessary spending of taxpayers’ money’.
He said: “I am not one to waste taxpayers’ money but this is the only way we could voice our objection if the council censors us.”
But police bosses stressed that even though Mr Barnbrook had confirmed he would not attend, an invitation for party supporters to turn out was still on the BNP website.
Chief Inspector Andy Dunn, from Barking and Dagenham Police, said: “Despite the notice from Mr Barnbrook that he would not be attending, other party supporters, who had not been directly informed, could have still attended the demonstration, as it was still advertised on the BNP website on the day of the planned rally. In the interest of public safety officers were deployed as originally planned as a precaution.”
Officers trained in public order offences and four police horses were part of the team drafted in. Police officials were unable to confirm the exact cost of the operation at the time of going to press.

Convicted BNP liar and cheat to defend council seat in May

Far-right councillor Richard Mulhall – described by a judge as a liar and a cheat – will defend his seat on Calderdale Council at the elections on May 3. He has represented Mixenden and Illingworth since 2003 and is one of 77 candidates who have put their names into the ring, including 13 for the British National Party.
Councillor Mulhall was convicted in October on four counts of cheating taxpayers by claiming £3,000 in housing benefit, council tax benefit and jobseeker's allowance he was not entitled to. At Teeside Crown Court he was ordered to serve 200 hours of unpaid work in the community.
When nominations closed yesterday, there were four candidates standing as independents, six representing the English Democrats Party, three for the Green Party and one for George Galloway's Respect Party. Labour and the Liberal Democrats will be contesting all 17 seats and the Conservatives 15. The Tories have been unable to find candidates for either Park ward or Calder ward.
There will be seven candidates trying to win the seat in Warley ward, which Liberal Democrat councillor Jennifer Pearson is defending. They include Faizan Saghir, the son of former Tory councillor Mohammed Saghir (Park). Another of his sons, Shakir Saghir, who has represented Park ward, is this year standing there for the English Democrats.
An ex-Conservative Mayor of Calderdale, Chris O'Connor, will be standing as an independent in Hipper-holme and Lightcliffe and Craig Whittaker, who recently became the Conservative prospective Parliamentary candidate for the Calder Valley is standing in Rastrick ward.
The deputy Conservative leader of the council, John Ford, will be defending his seat in Skircoat, while the deputy leader of the Labour group, Tim Swift, is standing again in Town ward.
The present make-up of Calderdale Council is Conservatives 19 seats, Liberal Democrats 16, Labour 10, Independents three seats, BNP two and English Democrats one.
