Coolest or Most Pathetic Mom...I Don't Care!

Well, as some of you now know, the Princess was finally diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. Suckfest.

We have had such a busy summer with the tutoring, the speech therapy for The Boy, karate, ballroom, and the big math exam...no time for vacation (except Therese, who got to sneak away to visit cousins and then a week trip to Quebec with grandma), and now we get this wretched news after all her hard work. We've been mad, we've been weepy, and now it's time for some rebellion. So I decided to indulge my inner teenager.

I am taking the Princess to her first-ever rock concert.

U2 and Snow Patrol.

There. I said it. We will dance and scream and sing like fools, just without the ganja or other assorted illicit "meds" that will be floating around. We will buy the t-shirts. We will be in BOSTON!

I am telling the school it's a college visit. :)

Laugh if you dare....we won't be able to hear you for a few days afterwards. We are in the 4th row just off to the side of the stage.

WOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Joy to the Wii (v. 2 & 3)

2. Joy to the Wii
The Baby's thrilled
I hope he won't be killed!

He loves to play with ba-ad things
Electric sho-ocks really sting

I'll need another gate,
To keep him from the bait
He'll be cra-a-zed, cra-a-zed
with rage and hate.
.
3. Wii rules our world
Thanks to our kin*
He got it all plugged in
.
There's Madden for 2009
That flat-screen's resolution's fine
.
I love that DDR!
I've won each game so far
I wonder, I wo-on-der
Where my kids are?

* Snaps to the Midshipman, Beloved's Naval Academy cousin who popped by for dessert, for getting us wired for Wii and the new wireless home theatre system in less than 15 minutes!

Joy to the Wii!

1. Joy to the Wii!
The box just came
We'll ne-ver be the same!
.
Beloved can't inst-a-all it
He's gonna blow a ci-ir-cuit
.
Because he's got no skills...
...I hope that Geek Squad bills
I ho-OPE, I ho-o-ope
that Geek. Squad. Bills.
.
[Additional verses to follow after dawn tomorrow...]
.
But now for something far more serious and heartfelt:

Have a very Blessed and Merry Christmas, everyone!

There Is No Rose Of Such Virtue

In the spirit of embracing the Rose and rejoicing this week...

One of my favorite carols comes from the time of the last "Good" King Henry of England, Henry VII:

There Is No Rose Of Such Virtue

English Traditional, c. 1420

1. There is no rose of such virtue,
As is the rose that bare Jesu;
Alleluia.

2. For in this rose contained was
Heaven and earth in little space;
Res miranda.

3. By that rose we may well see,
That he is God in persons three,
Pari forma.

4. The angels sungen the shepherds to:
Gloria in excelsis deo:
Gaudeamus.

5. Leave we all this worldly mirth,
And follow we this joyful birth;
Transeamus.

6. Alleluia, res miranda,
Pares forma, gaudeamus,
Transeamus.

Amazing Cover....

....of one of my all-time favorite songs.

I'll always have my little '80's tender spot for Hall & Oates, but Brian McKnight just NAILS this song! (Apparently, H&O gave him high marks for this rendition as well).

Back to my break - the eyes have had it....and I've gotta get to Mass!

Helo Mom 102

11-5-08 Helo Mom Update:

On November 4, 2008, America elected its first black president, and my daughter got asked out on her first date.

She said no based on parental advice and age concerns, but has not excluded the possibility of having him come over to meet the parents and be interrogated accordingly. He asked what sports teams the Beloved likes, whether he hunts and fishes....smart kid.

Lovestory

Click on the link above to watch the Cheerleader's new favorite song/video. This absolutely nails it. It is exactly how I picture her romantic little 14-year-old, Jane-Austen-loving mind at work...

I can't tell you what the 18 year old Football Player's mind is thinking. Pretty sure this isn't it, however.

Is it any wonder that her parents are a pair of trainwrecks?

Oh yeah - today's revelation: his after school job? Lifeguard. Problem? My daughter has had a starry-eyed lifeguard crush thing going on since she was 2. Every single session of swimming lessons back in CA, there was some 18 year old Adonis lugging her around, and they loved her as much as she loved them. A favorite quote from the tall blonde reincarnated Viking surfer god from the summer of 2000: "Your little heartbreaker is an excellent swimmer - I will miss having her in my class, but she's ready to move up to [whatever the next level was] with Jen."

I am torn between running to the kitchen to gulp down a large glass of wine or perhaps agonizing over tea and chocolates. Update: I resorted to all 3

Our Composer in Residence...

Friends, we have greatness in our midst.

As Election Day approaches, our favorite Neanderthal, Cavey, has composed some alternative lyrics to improve on a few rather dreadful old tunes...pop over and take a look, but if you are easily offended...okay, well, maybe don't. Whatever the case may be, I say it's great to have a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

Thanks Cavey!!!

The Jonas Brothers

Ahhhh yessss....if, like your humble correspondent, you have a daughter/daughters between the ages of about 7-17, these lads are quite the "thing" at present. Boy bands, Disney child star monsters, and all the crazy destructive crap that goes with it, right? Well, maybe not.

They each wear chastity rings and have vowed to remain virgins until they marry. Their father is an ordained minister of some sort, they do seem to have squeaky-clean images, their lyrics are relatively tame, so is it possible that these boys can keep up the good work and go against the Hollywood grain?

I certainly hope so.
