Mud Puppy

As is the case every morning, Canyon, Sky and I awoke as the first dawn's light began to come through the window. Dad and Mom aren't too happy with us most mornings because we are rising before 6am. This morning, the dawn came a little later than usual because the sky was black with thunder clouds. Every few seconds a big flash of light and a terrible noise occurred. Mom woke up and wondered aloud what time it might be. She put on her glasses and looked at the clock - OH NO! THE POWER WAS OUT SHE SAID. Quickly she ran to the dining room to look at the battery powered clock. She came back and told Dad it was 6:05am. They got up and Dad took us to the garage to wake Brook and head outside for our morning trip to the dog yard. While we were out, we got soaked (Dad said later the rain gauge had over an inch of rain from the 1 hour deluge this morning). I was thirsty, so I decided to dig a hole that could fill up with water for a drink. Dad came back from his trip to the big white porcelain water bowl in the basement to let us in and found me with my paws covered in mud. All of us got our feet wiped when we came in and I got put right in my crate. I sat and cried because Brook wasn't with me and Brook sat and cried in the dining room right by the door to the garage and cried. Finally, Mom was headed to the basement to get clothing from the laundry baskets in the laundry room and let Brook into her crate next to mine. Dad took some pictures of me and my muddy paws to share with you.

Can Dogs Get the Flu?

Hey Pups,

Can dogs get the flu from their people?  I really hope not.  Mom and Dad said the Little Biped threw up at the grocery store last Saturday night.  She seemed to be OK after that; however, Monday night she woke up crying and said she was cold.  Turned out she was running a fever.  She went to Gama's Tuesday and threw up at Gama's house.  Tuesday night her fever was up to 103.4.  She went to Gama's again Wednesday.  That afternoon, Dad came home and said he didn't feel good. He got the thermometer and found out he had a fever too.  Thursday, Dad had to go to Maine for some meetings so despite not feeling well, he got out of bed at 3am and was on a plane before 6am.  He got home around 10:30pm.  Meanwhile, the Little Biped spent another day at Gama's.  Dad tried to get up for work this morning, but Mom insisted that he take a sick day.  So, the Little Biped and Dad stayed home.  The Little Biped hasn't thrown up since Tuesday, but now says she has an earache.  Tomorrow, she'll go to the doctor.  I am hoping that this can't be passed on because I really don't want to be stuck laying on the couch all day with pillows, blankets, and dirty tissues...  Wait a minute - that doesn't sound so bad!  Well, maybe we will get the flu from the people.
Brook did throw up tonight.

Oh, and Canyon just sneezed....it's going to be a long weekend...

Snow Day

Hey Pups,

Turns out everyone got a three-day weekend.  The snow had started falling around 4 am this morning.  We woke Dad up when it started so we could go out and check it out right away.  Dad wasn't too pleased with getting up at 4 am so we could play in the snow.

At 6, his alarm went off and he got out of bed to get ready for work.  Mom found out school was on a 2-hour delay so she went back to sleep and had Dad reset her alarm for 7:30.  Dad left for work a little earlier than usual.  After picking up some cardboard boxes from the neighbors yard that had blown around in the wind overnight and putting them back with our garbage, he got in the car.  Twenty minutes later, he was back.  Turns out, he had gone 2 miles towards his 27 mile trip to work.  It had taken him 10 minutes and he slid around a bit too much for his liking.  He got home, and sent his boss and HR department an email that he was using a sick day for the snow.  Shortly after, Mom got a call that school had changed from a 2-hour delay to closed.

Mom said she hoped the new Wii would show up sooner than later so that they could spend the day playing.  We were really excited because the last box that got delivered to the house had a new collar and leash for Brook, new leash for Canyon, new bed for Brook and a new dish for her too.  We were hoping that this Wii thing was something for us.

A few minutes later, we heard a truck outside.  Woo-woo, the Wii!  Oh, darn - just the trash truck.

Mom, looking for something to do, started to clean out the cupboards and figuring out if there was old food in there which wasn't any good anymore.  She found some chocolate chips and the little biped asked for cookies.  Mom told her that she could have cookies, but someone would have to help her make them.  Mom graciously volunteered Dad for that job.

Brook thought that the cookies smelled really good and wanted to try.  She didn't know we wouldn't get any because chocolate isn't for doggies.

Around 2pm, the big brown truck showed up!  The Wii got here!

Here's the little biped getting to play.

The Wii hasn't been off since it got here.  The little biped was so tired out by bed time from all the jumping around that she was doing that she went right to sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

Well, back to watching the bipeds play sports games.

Kisses,

King Skyboy

A New Furry Member

I would like to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Brook and I'm the newest member of the Kapp Pack. They are now 16 paws strong. I came here as a foster puppy and fit right in so this is where I will stay. I've found my furever home! I thought I'd hijack the computer for a little bit and tell you more about my stay so far.

I am a 6 month old Siberian Husky puppy and I love my new brothers and sister. Mom and Dad tell me I couldn't have arrived at a better time because soon after I arrived my big sister Meadow had a seizure. I try really hard to help mom and dad check on her. If she's laying down and I get up to go exploring I always make sure I check on her too. When we go in our crates for the day, mom and dad make sure Meadow and I are side by side. Meadow hasn't had any other seizures that we've seen but mom and dad have taken her to the VET and all of her bloodwork was great!

As you can see my big sis and I are furry close already...

I have been bestowed the title of Princess Brook and the King even let me lay on his tail...I love my big bro, Canyon! Here I am trying to be his mirror image...I look forward to meeting all the pups out there in the blogosphere!Oh, by the way, my nickname is the flying puppy. I like to jump off the ground with all fours to say hi to everyone!

What's happening???

Hi Puppers!

My mom and dad were moving all kinds of furniture around last night. They completely emptied one of the rooms in the house. Sky and Canyon tell me this room used to be the little biped's room but when she moved in to a big girl bed mom and dad moved her to a new bedroom. Can you figure out what's going to be happening in here?

Please help me figure this out!

Ummm..

Hi Pups!

Well, the Super Bowl is over and our Steelers can now say they are Six-Time Super Bowl Champions. They are the only team in the history of the Super Bowl that can claim that honor. It was a great game and the Cardinals really gave it all they had...

The last three minutes of the game were a real nail-biter....

I think mom stopped breathing during the last few minutes, but with a last minute pass to Santonio Holmes the Steelers made their way to victory. We are still in awe of their accomplishment!

Now on to NASCAR and baseball...

Single Sunday (the Sky version)

Hey Pups,

Mom and I just happened to be looking back through some old pics of Kelsey Ann that she has scanned onto the laptop. We were having a good time reminiscing and then I noticed a striking similarity between a pic of Kelsey from way back when she was a single dog and of a pic mom took of Biloxi this summer....

They both were spending time at the beach, at the same campground, relaxing under a picnic table. For some reason mom has been thinking about the beach a lot lately but I'm not quite sure why....

We hope everypup had a furry good weekend!

More Whining....

Hey Pups!

This have been really awful around here lately. Mom's been sick for a few days which meant all she did was sleep and not give us extra attention. I rained most of Friday and Saturday and we even had a tornado watch yesterday. Dad's leaving again for another business trip tomorrow. The exterminator is coming tomorrow morning to "take care of the ants."

Worst of all, I am not being treating fairly in MY KINGDOM! The first evidence I have of this is the following picture...Can you believe all this princess junk in MY food dish???? And the biped left it there all day! I mean, did the little biped think my food dish made a good throne for Cinderella???
The next situation is the one I find extremely disturbing. Canyon and Meadow got into a fight yet again over something stupid. To not go into tomany details, Mom figured out what caused it again and the humans are working to help Canyon and Meadow to behave better. Mom told me I'm the good one and I don't need to learn anything else. Well, one of the new routines is that Canyon and Meadow have to be in a "down" at food time or in their crates. We were practicing the down, stay which Canyon and I know, but Meadow still needs to learn this. I kept getting distracted by the TV and other thoughts...Khyra, Holly, Storms, Ammy, Eva, Meeshka, Frankie Girl...and all of a sudden I heard dad say "put Sky in his crate if he's not going to listen"
WHAT?????? Are you kidding me??? Me, the King of Huskies, does NOT get crated. This is an abomination! I haven't been crated since I was a puppy. I've earned my place out of the crate by being trustworthy in the house. I made it difficult for mom to get me in there by dragging my feet. She had to slide me across the floor. I wasn't going in without a fight. They gave me some crap about making an example out of me. What? An example of torture???I was secrectly plotting my escape. I was thinking that pin could have been slid out with my tongue...Then I just laid down and gave mom my best cranky face. You know what she did??? She laughed at me. Apparently there was something funny in the fact that I laid diagonal across the crate and put my tail up in the air in the corner. She even called dad over so he could laugh at me too. She tried to cover it up by saying she was laughing because I was cute. Yeah, right, whatever Mom!

I am so NOT amused with this situation. I have awards to accept, but quite frankly I am just not in the mood to do that tonight!

Sick Bed

Hey Pups!

Mom stayed home today with us because she is sick. I was really excited because that meant we would got to spend extra time with her. It was alright until Meadow decided to get into trouble and got us locked in the bedroom all day.

Mom always keeps the door closed at night because Meadow gets into trouble, but we thought we would have free roam today. Meadow decided to get herself in trouble this morning and that was the end of our free roaming. Mom went out to the kitchen to take some medicine and found a pee puddle from Meadow (because she had been drinking out of the toilet), a cabinet door that has child saftey lock open, the cabinet under the sink where the trashcan is open, and the trash can spilled onto the floor. Who knows what she ate out of there. I pawsonally thought it was really gross!

So that's why we got locked up for the day with mom. Mom wasn't much fun because she spent almost the whole day sleeping.

One really funny thing I heard was Mom telling Dad that Meadow could NEVER be trusted alone without being in a crate!

Target is So Cool!

Hey Pups!

Mom sent Dad to Target today to go and buy new sheets. I didn't quite understand why they needed new sheets, I mean they have a whole closet full of them.......summer ones, winter ones, t-shirt materials ones.....why do they need more????

Well, mom was putting them on the bed tonight and called us up there to try them out. They looked pretty nice and were furry soft. Canyon and I lounged for a while as Meadow springboarded on and off the bed a few times.

Can you see what is on the sheets yet???

Here's a closer look....
Can woo guess who's tail that is???
Do woo see the huskies and polar bears???
Meadow decided to stop the Sibernastics long enough to model the sheets too...
Then Mom got camera-happy and started shooting candid portaits of us....
I briefly forgot to emply my SZK methods and looked directly at the camera....

I quickly remembered and wasn't going to let that happen again!

Finally I got the bed all to myself!
Mom said Target has these flannels sheets on sale for $17 for twin, full and queen sizes. They were even big enough to cover our pillowtop mattress with a memory foam topper on it! We give them 12 paws up! Dad even bought a set for the little biped's bed!

The Hike 2008

Hey Pups,

Here's some pictures from the
Hike N Howl.

The Hike was at Core Creek County Park in Bucks County. There was a nice lake in the park and Dad took some scenery pictures with his new camera (his old one was replaced under the no lemon clause in the warranty this week), a Kodak Z1015 (10 MP, 15x zoom).

Ducks swimming in the lake.

A husky checking out the ducks.

Khyra and Biloxi say hi.

Kisses for the little biped from Biloxi (he's getting really big).

Mom has the Itchies!

Hey Pups!

Mom has been neglecting our blog a bit lately. Something about having poison ivy and benny-drill making her sleepy. I don't buy it....I just think she's being lazy and neglecting us again. I did claw her into getting this video of us uploaded to you tube (ignore the little biped's Veggie Tales music in the background).

Dad got his new car on Friday night. If I can convince Mom, I'll get some pics of me checking it out tomorrow!

A Gift From Above

Hey Pups,

The bipeds had some errands they had planned for this past Saturday: taking the blogathon prizes to the post office, visiting the library to return the Little Biped's borrowed books and find a few more (specifically looking for some to help the Little Biped learn about losing a dog and doggy heaven on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge), a trip to the hardware store, taking the Sibe Vibe for service, and dropping off food donations at the local Humane Society. They left the house around 10Am and were back around noon. Light bulbs and new books were unloaded from the car. Lunch was had and then... Leashes and choker collars were gotten out and Canyon and I were put in the back of Dad's car. RIDE!!!!!

We got to the Humane Society and Mom and the Little Biped went inside while Canyon and I waited outside with Dad. The food bags were already gone so I was a little nervous (remember, I had been there before joining the Kapp Pack) Before too long, Mom, the Little Biped, and a small husky girl came out. She was red and white with amber eyes and a full mask. We went for a walk at the grounds of the Humane Society, sniffed butts, and did some husky play. We all seemed to get along wonderfully!

Mom and the Little Biped took her back in and we went home. Mom and Dad started talking about names for her before we got out of the parking lot. Later that day, they settled on two choices... Sunshine or Meadow. After debate, they finally decided Meadow would be her name. The Little Biped piped up and said it should be Sunshine. So, a compromise was made (or as the Little Biped says "I have an ideal") and Sunshine Meadow was chosen.

We're very happy we have a new fursister, Sunshine Meadow, who came to live with us on Sunday.

Kisses, Sky...

Kapp Pack Dad here - we certainly didn't plan on getting another dog when we made this trip on Saturday. Whenever we go to the Humane Society, we always look to see if there are any huskies there. If there are, we let Mapaw know so a courtesy post can be done and if necessary, bring the pup into foster care. So, out of habit, we walked through the kennels. In the very last kennel (right across the hall from the kennel Sky was in when we adopted him), we found Meadow. She was listed as "stray at large, received 7/30/08." My wife saw her first and while I was looking at a senior, male, GSD mix (probably mixed with Malamute based on his size - note that his head is as high as a man's hip in the picture - and features) named JD.

We asked the kennel staff about her, and found out she had come in as a stray several weeks ago on the 18th. State law requires the shelter to keep strays for five days before making them available for adoption, so she had been available the 23rd. She was adopted out and came back in on the 30th as stray again. The owners were contacted and they said they would be in to pick her up, but Saturday had been her fourth day there (I don't care much for stupid dog owners like that). We took her for a walk outside to see how she was outside the kennel. My wife kneeled down to say hello to her and she came over and put her paws on my wife's shoulders. This was the same thing Kelsey had done the first time we met her.

Too many coincidences were popping up here and we figured this to be a message from North of the Bridge. We decided we needed to bring the boys to meet her. We quickly realized everyone was going to get along great and decided to be waiting at the door of the shelter when they opened on Sunday at noon. Adoption papers were signed, fees were paid and Meadow came home to live with us. So, we've got ourselves a 35-lb female husky with an unknown age (we're guessing older juvenile to young adult based on activity level and teeth examination). She likes to sit on the top of the couch and the arm of the chair; she seems to be very intelligent and knows some commands; and she loves to give hugs and kisses.

Thank you, Kelsey Ann, you knew just what we needed to help us heal. I'm sure you are smiling down on us from heaven!

Sorry there are no more pictures.....blogger is being stupid!

Kelsey - What Have You Been Telling People?

Mom here. I was reviewing posts from tonight to make sure I had all the prizes and winners listed properly. Oh, by the way - Team Husky won the Stinky Pet Spray - Congratulations!
I've found that Kelsey Ann was telling people we were giving away Biloxi as a prize. Even though she may want to get rid of him because all he does is stand and bark at her, he is not a prize on the blogathon. Adoption applications will be carefully reviewed, references will be checked, applicants will be screened on home visits, and Biloxi will be going to the best possible home after proper medical care for his broken and badly set bones. Kelsey, you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to pull something like this off. Maybe next year, we should give you away.

Stay tuned. 1 more post and 1 more prize. The Hold-the-Phone bag will be given away by drawing at 9AM.

What Mom and Dad are Doing to Stay Awake

Around 11:45PM, Dad was sent to a local convienence store to buy some Tastykakes and chips. Extra carbs and sugar to provide an energy boost. After watching a few Saturday Night Live reruns, Dad went to retrieve some DVDs. He returned with The Simpsons Movie and Big Daddy. Neither of these interested Mom. He took them back to the shelf and got Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2. Mom decided these would be OK and went to do more laundry. She came back with the American Pie Trilogy. They agreed that this was by far the best choice so now, we're about an hour into the first movie. Hopefully, they will get to watch all three before the little biped gets out of bed.

They're pathetic

Dinner time!

Well, I guess it's time to start thinking about dinner for the humans. Here's what we are feeding them tonight. Burgers, Corn-on-the-cob and our special Gazpacho soup made with Grandma's recipe. I helped mom make this earlier today and it should be just about cold enough.

Here are all the ingredients...
2 cucumbers, peeled 1 green pepper
2 tsp. green chilies
2 T. fresh cilantro
1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. dill weed
16 oz can diced tomatoes
2 Cups V-8 juice
1/2 crushed garlic
1-2 bunches of green onions
1 T. worchestershire sause
1 T. red wine vinegar

Put everything into the food processor (or blender) and mix together

Stir in hot sauce to your liking when it's all mixed up (This is Biloxi's favorite ingredient)

Here's your finished product....chill for 4 or more hours and serve cold

This recipe and 500+ more (human, dog, and cat food) can be found in MaPaw's cookbook. For the next post we will be doing a drawing for a MaPaw cookbook, and a trivia question to win the apron we previously posted about.

Kisses, Sky boy

I almost forgot the winner of the slippers is Sitka and Tia! The correct answer was Cinderella!

Playdate with Khyra!

Hey Pups!

Kelsey allowed me to do the post today even though it's supposed to be Single Sunday. Kelsey's not feeling so well and wanted to take a little time off (she'll tell you more about her problems tomorrow).

Miss Fluffy Tail, Khyra, came for a visit today. She says she came to see all of us, but I really think she came to smell some puppy breath! We all had a great time. Canyon was really snarky when Khyra first got here and tried to pick a fight with her, but after about 5 minutes of Mom telling him he knew her and had fun with her before he was OK. I took advantage of that moment and tried to get Khyra involved in a game of catch while Mom was holding Canyon.

We played, then rested, played, then rested, over and over....

Khyra's mom got to try some of the cake mom had baked for this weekend. We still haven't gotten our pieces so that was completely NOT FAIR! Khyra tried to butter our mom up to get some but it didn't work! Towards the end of their visit Biloxi got banished to his crate because little pups get cranky when they are tired....

Enjoy the pics and videos from our visit.
