Saturday Rewind

Adam and Amy's girls slept over Friday night so we had a fun, mess-filled house of giggling girls for about 24 hours.

On Saturday they talked me into taking them to the amphitheater park even though it was windy and cold.

Lori and I sat in our chairs talking and shivering, I eventually had to wrap my legs in the blanket she brought...it was freezing. We finally packed things up and left when it started to rain.

Landon and 3 other friends had ridden their bikes to Sonic and then were back at our house for some video game time.

The girls weren't ready to go when Adam arrived, so we bought them some time by going out to lunch with him (me, Lori, Adam and Randy).

At one point we were laughing so hard the people around us were staring. The little girl at the next table was delighted and wanted to be a part of it.

This was part of the humor.

The girls used every bit of play time but were still bummed out when they had to go. It's a good thing they'll be coming for a 2 night sleepover next week when Amy has to go out of town.

Weird Saturday

Saturday morning found me shuttling, Landon, Parker and Hunter down to BYU for a Scout Pow Wow. They had the option of working on multiple merit badges, but Landon chose to work on his one  last required merit badge, which meant he would only need to be there for an hour.

There was some silliness and no-cooperative photo taking going on, but I must document.

It's nice that they have these opportunities!

Whitney and I planned to wander the bookstore for an hour until Landon was done and the museum opened at 10:00 but it turns out the bookstore doesn't open until 10:00 on Saturday either! Dang it. We chose to wander the Fine Arts building to see the student projects hung up in there and then made our way over to the library (which no longer resembles the library I slept...I mean studied in so many years ago).

These posters were hanging up and seemed like a very good idea to me. I wish I'd had a clue of what I was getting into before I got married!

Whitney wasn't keen on me taking photos of her in the library, but I ended up being rather giddy about being surrounded by all those books!

I was rather shocked to see a card catalog and had to laugh at the sign on top of it. Really, what is it for anymore?

I shnockered Landon into going to the art museum. They had this postcard display board at the end of one of the exhibits so patrons could leave comments, so he ended up being happy that he "has something hanging in the art museum!"

His "piece".

I dragged the kids around the exhibits as long as I could but it was way too hot in there (museums always are) and they just weren't interested (even Miss Artist Whitney!). This photo of them outside of the museum says it all!

JCW's for lunch helped restore their good humor.

Whitney bought this little BYU notebook and pen with her own money.

It turns out that Randy's dad was in town from Chicago for a granddaughter's baptism, so Randy went to that in the morning and spent the day with his dad, sister and her kids. Roger ended up coming to our house ithat evening and got 20 seconds with Landon before I had to take him to a birthday party (we didn't know Roger was coming).

**How was your Saturday?
Do you find museums too warm?**

Comment Window Tidbit: It's 63 degrees and sunny today, spring fever is here!!

Happy Saturday!!

I was up at 6:30 this morning to take Whitney back to Space Camp (she went from 7-11 last night), then I got donuts for the family (a very rare treat), filled my car with gas and had an hour at home before Cathy came to get me for our walk. We've been driving to various trails (all new to me) and then walking for an hour. We went on one close by today, but totally new to me...I'm giddy about it. It felt surreal to have such a nice trail with a gorgeous view just 2 miles up the road from my house! We had a great walk and talk, which I'm finding to be the perfect way to start each Saturday. I feel so accomplished getting the majority of my day's steps in before 9:30am, plus I get to socialize and breathe fresh air so I end up with a "life is good" feeling before I've even set out to be productive. As much as I adore sleeping in and lounging in bed reading, this new plan is way better for me.

**What are your plans today?
Do you have good trails near you?
Can you believe how snowless we are?**

Free Day

Today was my first obligation-free Saturday in weeks. In the past month I've had a baby shower for a cousin, then the family 5k, then a bridal shower for a cousin...phooey! It was glorious to be able to sleep in this morning, lounge in my jammies and then be able to just hang out.

Lori brought lunch over this afternoon, then we went through her disc of pictures from her Australia trip 2 years ago (already!?), then made her a great collage with some of the pictures. (Did anyone see that Marc posted the challenge for July??) This was my 4th time working on a collage, though this time Lori made it based on my instructions, and it was much easier. I had a math break-through that's really too embarrassing to share because it was so basic, but it ended up making things much easier for me...duh!

Lori and I finally left the house around 6:00pm to get some dinner at The Italian Place and then to go see Iron Man. I've been practically begging her to go see it because Randy and Landon liked it so much, so she finally gave in tonight.

The theater was surprisingly crowded and my personal space was invaded by the young couple sitting to my right. They were obsessed with their cell phone and kept messing with it during the movie. It drives me crazy and bugs the crap out of me when people do this. Even if the sound is off, the light on the phone is so bright and distracting. Why must they mess with their phones during a movie? Is focusing on one thing for 2 whole hours too much of a stretch?? How did everyone function before cell phones? Does anyone else miss being unavailable sometimes?

It was a pretty low-key day. Randy took the kids to see Kung-Fu Panda and vegged out at home too. He's so weary from his first week back to work. He had gotten into the habit of staying up way too late and sleeping, so these early mornings (7:00ish) are kicking his butt. Ha.

A Perfect Saturday

I probably have many definitions of a perfect Saturday, so the one I'm going to write about is just one version of it, but ended up being perfect for me.

  • It's was overcast, rainy and cool...perfect fall weather.

  • Randy went out for a few hours, so I had the computer and the scrapbook room to myself.
  • Amie called, and we had one of our mega conversations (3 hours) where we basically go about our business at home while on the phone together. Delightful and amusing.
  • I worked on finished several good mail items.
  • Received 3 items of good mail!

Lelly sent this cute, Halloween Just Because card. Thanks!

Amie sent me this darling thank you card for various things (as pictured) and wrote such a sweet note that I actually got teary (me!). Thanks Amie!!

The awesome Lisa Leonard necklace I won from Kristi's blog contest arrived! I absolutely love it (no pun intended) and though I don't usually wear necklaces due to my desire not to draw attention to my unfortunate neck area, this necklace is going to change that. Thanks Lisa & thanks Kristi!!! This is my word for the year and I think this is a perfect way to remind myself.
  • I finally took a shower at 4:00pm then called Collette to see if she wanted to hang out for a bit. She had plans later but had an available hour and immediately "yes." (What a friend!) So I picked her up and we went to Costco and Sonic together and then chatted in the car.

  • Back to home to tidy-up for the weekend, put the kids to bed and then watch a movie with Randy.

The movie was very disappointing (2 stars maybe), but since I have had a crush on Jason Bateman since he was on Silver Spoons back in the early 80's it was still a little bit enjoyable.
Read in the cozy until I fell asleep. Ahhhhh.

**How was your weekend?
Has a thank you note ever made you cry?
Have you seen this movie?**
