No, I'm not talking about Veggie Tales.
We have all heard about how good carrots are for us--the beta-carotene in carrots improve our night vision because it is a precursor to Vitamin A--we've all been told about that (at least the vision part).
But, there is a cousin to beta-carotene we don't hear as much about. It is called lycopene and it is found in tomatoes and other such fruits. It is colorful, but it has a more important role than just providing color; it is also an antioxidant. This long molecule can quench those nasty free radicals floating about and could help fight diseases. Cool.
Okay, so why did I choose to write on lycopene?
I asked for a topic and a friend provided me with one (thanks DRW).
Why did I ask for a topic?
Writer's block--my mind has been running to and from a few ideas lately, but I haven't been able to express them yet. So, I asked for a temporary release from my dilemma.
Okay, okay--so I like to learn about cool, nerdy stuff too. I will admit it--but I won't sing a silly song about it.

Lasting Lessons Learned From Exes
I can't profess to knowing everything, but somewhere along the way, I have picked up a few things--call them paradigms if you will. One of the most interesting sources just happens to be from past dating relationships. So, I will share a few things I have learned from members of the opposite sex.
1. Don't let a kiss fool you, and don't let a fool kiss you.
This silly phrase reminds me of the guy whose intentions ended up starkly contrasting with my own. What I thought was a symbol of our relationship was a conquest finished. So, clear communication is essential whether it is spoken or physical.
By the way, HE still thinks he broke my heart--you can't break what you've never had in your possession.
2. One half isn't enough
For a relationship of any kind to grow, both sides have to be invested.
I know, I should have figured that one out before some guy taught me!
3. You always have a choice
When I got asked out by another guy, my boyfriend at the time told me, "You always have a choice." Stunningly simple and so valuable.
4. Forgiveness is healing
Now I'm not sure why that one hurt me so badly, but somewhere along the way I picked up some bruises not invoked by volleyball play. I was angry and chose to hold on to it, until I realized how dangerous that was. The only thing that took away my anger and pain was using the true Balm of Gilead.
5. Take a chance
Relationships scare me. From observations, I know how important they are and I know what they can be like. So, that chance of either falling on my face or successfully flying is something I have to risk.
