On CNN
So, normally it would be a very BAD thing to be on CNN, but in our case, it's a great thing! You can check out our story at http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-339165?ref=email http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-339165?ref=email.

Sweet Home California
The cool thing about being a Mom the second time around is that I don't FREAK out at the idea of leaving the house with a newborn or bolt out of the shower sopping wet just because the baby is crying. I'm also apparently cool with lugging Jack and Conrad all over California. I always wanted to do something fun over spring break when I was a student but was always too broke. So I made up for missed opportunities by taking our own kids somewhere fun over Conrad's spring break. We hit up San Diego and Sacramento all within a week, only to come home and find out that there were some great things about being too broke to travel back in the day- less taxes. If only I had a picture to post of the look on Joshua's face last night at 2am as he sat at the desk looking for write-offs. But here are some pics of us last week, in happier times:

Jack David Meier
born February 11, 2009
Three men and a ladyJack David Meier made his big debut on February 11, 2009. He was 8 pounds, 11 ounces, and 21 inches long. The delivery went very well, other than the fact that I had to push out a gigantic baby (and that's with him having been 8 days early). We are all doing very well. Jack is a really sweet and easy going baby, and Conrad is such a great big brother to him. So now we finally have the fourth bear on Four Bears Drive.

My Two Sons
Conrad- at 4 years old in Costume
I didn't know growing up that I would love being a mom so much. Being pregnant with Jack reminds me of how I felt being pregnant with Conrad. They say that motherhood changes you, but in many ways, I feel like motherhood saved me. Being Conrad's mom, and now Jack's, is who I was meant to be all along- I just didn't know it. But I am so glad that God did.

WHAT A MAN!

Joshua after receiving the Kern County Legal Services Award and State Bar award for giving over 90 hours of pro bono service.

I know I'm not shy about telling everyone how awesome Joshua is, but now even the Kern County Bar Association and the California State Bar is giving him props too for being the best! Joshua was recently honored by these organizations for giving over 90 hours of pro bono (free) legal services to a poor elderly couple harassed by a neighbor who would randomly shut off their water for no reason. Joshua stepped in and saved the day, which is why he was this year's sole recipient of the Kern County Legal Services Award. I have to say his 15 second speech was the night's biggest hit! Lawyers usually go on and on...
He also got a few minutes of fame. The local tv news and newspaper did a story on him, and he got a lot of pats on the back from our colleagues in the profession. I might email this all to his boss in case he wants to jump on the Josh Love band wagon and give him a bonus.
All I have to say is, What a man, what a man, what a man, what a mighty fine man.

LAWYERS AND RELIGION DO MIX
There was a church service tonight at St. Francis known as the Red Mass. It's actually an annual celebration by the Roman Catholic Church for judges, prosecutors, attorneys, law school professors, students, and government officials. Basically, the Mass requests guidance from the Holy Spirit for all who seek justice, and offers the opportunity to reflect on the God-given power and responsibility of all in the legal profession. Apparently the Red mass was first celebrated in the Cathedral of Paris in 1245.
I know what you are thinking...1) this is boring...2) Since when is Laura the expert on Catholicism...and 3) yeah, I did get this straight from Wikipedia.
So anyway, tonight, our family went to the Red Mass. It was so cool/odd to see so many lawyers I know worshiping together at church, many of who aren't Catholic, and some not even religious. I told Joshua on the way over that the collection pot was bound to be good. As father Craig noted in his homily, Red Mass was not named that way just because lawyers are blood thirsty people.
So, there you go. Lawyers and Religion do mix!

Turning 30 in San Fran with my guys!

We spent my Big 30 in San Francisco and it was perfect! Joshua went all out for me and we had an awesome time. Conrad had a blast too. Who would have thought out of all the cool stuff we did that he ended up raving about riding around in taxi cabs. That, and of course, Alcatraz. Who doesn't love spending the day in a jail?
I have to say that waking up on my birthday in a gorgeous hotel in San Francisco with my hubby and son, and baby on the way who was kicking like crazy, was the best present in the world. I definitely feel blessed!
