Hey Blogger, WTF?

I know, I know.  I've been away from blogging for a bit.

Washington D.C. trip with students.

Professional Development conference in Minneapolis (this week)

I'm just now trying to catch up on my blogs and I'm getting fed up with Blogger.

If I'm not getting the "Get more out of Blogger screen", now I'm getting this...

I get to see ONE blog entry in my blog feed.  Just one, no more, no less.

UGH.

Blogger is seriously making it hard for me to stay with them.

Love you awesome nerds.

My Freebie 5

This week my friend MAC at Yummy of the Day answered a question that I had posed to him...

"Who is on your list of 5 freebies? You know, the 5 people that you would be allowed to get down with if given the opportunity."

He game his answers (which were awesome) and then posed the same question to his readers.

So without further ado, I present my five.

#5 Chris Young

Chris is a country music artist, who was the was a winner of "Nashville Star".

I first noticed Chris when he released his first single, "Drinking Me Lonely". The thing is, he's gotten better looking as he's gotten older.

Chris has also taken to ditching the cowboy hat that he had worn earlier in his career.

And oh god those eyes and that smile.

#4 Ed Burns

With a voice as smooth as a gravel road, Ed Burns wins me over just by speaking to me. With that subtle Boston accent, he makes me swoon with every word.

And he's so easy on the eyes.

Oh yeah, and he's only getting better looking with age.

Now if only he'll come spend time with me in Iowa.

#3 Anthony Carrino

Anthony is one half of the "Kitchen Cousins" of HGTV.  He and his cousin John run a construction business in New Jersey.

Presently they are doing a show called "Cousins Undercover." They do covert renovations for deserving people. It's sweet and sappy and he's just HAWT.

Love the tats, love the scruff, love the dark brooding look.

The one thing that is surprising is that underneath that shirt, Anthony is surprisingly smooth. I truly expected him to have a deliciously furry chest.

Oh well, I'll make do.

#2 Thomas Roberts

Oh Thomas.  Sweet, sweet, Thomas.

I've been in love with him since his days on Headline News and have followed him throughout his career.

Thomas is out and married to an equally handsome man. They make such a cute couple.

Thomas is now on MSNBC on an early morning show.

And yes, one of my motivations for getting up early to go to the gym is to watch him while I'm on the treadmill.

Nice motivation.

#1 Nathan Fillion

I've posted about Nathan previously.

He played Johnny the firefighter on "Two Guys and a Girl", then Captain Mal Reynolds on "Firefly", the evil Father Caleb on "Buffy", finally leading up to novelist Richard Castle on "Castle".

And I 'HEART' him.

There's a mischievous twinkle in his eyes and he looks good in just about everything.

Oh Nathan, so loverly.

The Week That Was...

Wow! It's been a week since my last blog post?! How did that happen?

Taking part in Jim's "Pic A Day In May" Challenge prompted me to blog every day. Since I'm not doing that, the motivation has dropped off a bit.

Plus I've just been tired since school has ended, but semi-busy.

You'll allow me to post a few photos from my tumblr feed.

I've only had tumblr for a few months, but suddenly I realized that I've "hearted" close to 3,500 photos.  Whoa! So I thought I'd post a few as I recap everything that's been going on as of late.

Since school ended last week, I'm focusing more on technology for next year. Thursday and Friday were devoted to professional development in preparation for our school going one-to-one next year. This means that every student will have a computer to use.

I'm very excited about this, but now the hard work begins of figuring out HOW to use that technology effectively in class. In addition to last week's professional development, I'm also taking part in a summer long online tech workshop.

I'm finding that I am quickly becoming overwhelmed with all the possibilities of things that I can do, not to mention lots of new acronyms (SAMR, TPACK, etc) that my mind is swimming. I need to keep reminding myself that the first year of one-to-one should be more of a "toes in the water" experience.

Usually my first week off from school is my "lazy week". The week where I do NOTHING and just veg-out.

Not this year.  lol

On Monday and Tuesday we had the siding on our house replaced. The old siding was original to the house (I think), so it was definitely time for a change.

After two days of construction, the guys finished up and both the hubby and I agreed, it the house looks amazing. It was like we bought a brand-new house and it was already furnished with our favorite things (including gay porn!).

Now we just wait for the bill..... gulp.

Unfortunately, none of the guys working on the house was worth covertly photographing.

Que sera, que sera.

Now Monday was also the beginning of what I'm now calling my "week of mini-crises".

Follow me on this.....

In Iowa, I presently hold two endorsements on my teaching license - World History 5-12 and Middle School Generalist.

The Middle School Endorsement allows me to teach any of the four core subject - math, science, social studies or language arts. In 2010, the state modified the endorsement so that a teacher would "specialize" in two content areas.

This fall, I am hoping to teach Algebra. To be able to do that, I need to hold the Algebra 5-8 endorsement. Getting THAT endorsement requires me to hold the Middle School Math endorsement (the new 2010 modification).

I realized that I needed to take 1 math class to get the requirements for the M.S. Math endorsement, so I took Statistics. Now I was ready to apply for the license upgrade.

Monday morning I called the state to verify I had met all the requirements. The gentleman I spoke with asked me if I had taken an adolescent reading class.

Uh, a what?

As part of the 2010 modification, the state added a requirement that all teachers getting a Middle School endorsement take a class in adolescent literacy.  This I had not done.

Of course the woman I would need to speak with would be gone until Thursday. I knew if I couldn't get the endorsement that I wouldn't be able to teach Algebra in the fall and I would be crushed.

Finally on Thursday I spoke with perhaps the friendliest state employee EVER.  And I'm serious about this - she was awesome!

She told me that while I would need to take the class, that I could obtain a conditional endorsement that will cover me until the class is finished.

Mini-crisis averted.

But I still won't sleep completely at ease until I have that conditional license in my hands.

Needless-to-say my boss was happy that I had done my homework and come up with a solution now, as opposed to showing up in August and saying, "um, yeah, I don't have the endorsement."

That would not be good.

My second "mini-crisis" occurred yesterday.

This upcoming Tuesday, I leave for Washington D.C. with 12 students. As part of the trip we are getting t-shirts and Friday I went to pick them up.

Well, turns out the agent put in for 2 larges instead of 2 EXTRA larges as I had ordered.

I was panicked as one of the girls on the trip had ordered an extra-large (she is a larger girl). I was internally freaking out because I know she is sensitive about her weight and didn't want her to feel self-conscious about wearing a shirt that was too small.

Fortunately I had ordered an XXL for me. So if the printer can't get us a replacement shirt by Monday, I can give her my shirt and I'll just wear a regular shirt on our "t-shirt" day in D.C.

Mini-Crisis 2 averted.

But on a positive note, the World Cup has started!!!!!

I'm a happy boy.

I LOVE the World Cup.

On Thursday I watched the opening match, Brazil v. Croatia, at a local bar/restaurant that is the hangout for the Brazilian population here in Ames.

OMG were they loud and boisterous.

I had to leave at halftime because I couldn't hear out of my left ear.  But I did have a lot of fun.

Ah the beautiful game.

And the beautiful players.... Oh My Uruguay!

Since this is my last photo, I'll wrap this up.

The next couple of weeks are gonna be cray-cray, but I'm really gonna work to stay on top of my blogging.

I will make sure to post photos from my trips to Washington D.C. and Minneapolis.

Love you awesome nerds!

I'm Walking Here!

In about 10 days I left for Washington D.C. This will be my 5th trip taking students and I'm excited to be starting this tradition at my new school.

One thing I try to impress upon my travelers is that they need to start walking BEFORE we leave on the trip. We will be doing A LOT of walking on the trip and I don't want them to be exhausted by the of the first day.
I'm getting really frustrated when I insert photos
and I can't get the text to wrap around it.  Ugh
But of course I had yet to take my own advice. Now that the school year is done, I've begun my mental and physical recuperation. That now includes walking!

After an early morning wake up, and getting caught up on a DVR'd episode of "Castle", I started out walking to the downtown farmer's market. It would be a 4 mile round trip along with any additional mileage I might accrue at the market.

Over the course of about 2 1/2 hours I covered about 5 miles. I already am feeling it in my lower back, but I'd rather feel it now than when I'm in D.C.

The farmer's market was busy and there were a few nice looking gentlemen to see.  Now I know where the DILFs have been!

The School Year Closes

Admit it, you were expecting "School's Out" by Alice Cooper.

At my previous school, I was in charge of the 8th grade video yearbook. I went to great lengths to pick songs that would be memorable.

Of the dozens of songs I used over the years, "These Are Days" is my all-time favorite.

So as I finish up this school year, this song brings a smile to my face.

The final day of school went very well. We had a lot of activities planned for the kids and they had a blast.

I was feeling a bit anxious at the beginning of the day, so thanks to a little help from X###x, I had a lot of fun with the kids as well - taking selfies with kids and photo bombing them.  lol

We have professional development tomorrow and Friday. Tomorrow morning I'll finishing putting away my room for the summer and getting checked out.

But for tonight, I could use an alcoholic beverage.

Love you awesome nerds!

One Day More....

It was a Starbucks Venti Mocha Frappucino, skim, espresso shot, YES I WANT THE WHIPPED CREAM, kinda day.

One more day of school.

A short day.... 1pm dismissal.

And I'm so ready for the year to be over.

The past two days have been very stressful with the kids being "cray cray".

And I left my Xanax at home.

I really shouldn't say all the kids have been nuts.  About 4/5 of the kids are ones that I absolutely adore and love to spend time.

But there are the 1/5 that drive me up the wall. The past two days they have been twice as challenging.

My left ear is still ringing from my first period class. Two of my "cherubs" don't understand the meaning of the words "indoor voice".

I'm mentally exhausted.

I'm physically exhausted.

Oh yeah, and my lower back has been flaring up again..... yay. :(

PRIDE CHALLENGE 2014!!! -- THIS IS OUR YEAR!!!

I'm showing my support for my good friend Kelly at Rambling Along In Life.. by changing my blog for a more Prideful motif.

But I have to admit - I'm not the most "Pride"ful person.

I've never been to a Pride celebration, and in all honesty, I don't have a desire to go.

I'm happy that there are festivities where people can go to celebrate, but I just don't have an interest in going.  It's just not my thing.

For those of you who do go, have a blast and celebrate, celebrate, celebrate.

Be safe and...

Make Good Choices. :)
