BEASTIE BOYS on the Like A Virgin tour circa 1984-5, opening for Madonna. She wouldn't let us make a photo with her, so we stood outside the venue and made this one. Classic stuff. This week was really the first time i was meant to take photos with them, i never did when they were only playing their punk stuff, i wasn't that into them, but once they were getting into hip hop is when they first began to inspire me to want to make photos with them. This few days of hanging out and showing them around L.A. was an incredible time, made so many great photos of them goofing with the celebrities, around the Loyola Marymount campus, and up in Malibu... One for the books... In 1985 when RUN-DMC & JMJ were ruling the Hip-Hop game, I made this photo in Hollis, Queens where they all lived. Proud to have worked with these guys at this formative time. This photo is a rare outake from the two day hang, several others from this day appear in the MY RULES book with some great words from DMC , in fact there are more images including RunDMC in MY RULES than anyone else! The song features several recognizable samples and DJ Cheese definitely takes over the track. He won the World Mixing Championships in 1986. "Coast to Coast" was also a well known single.DJ Cheese was originally from West Virginia, but moved to Plainfield, New Jersey to perfect his deejay skills. He debuted on the Z-3 MC's only recording in 1985, produced by Duke Bootee.The Word of Mouth MC's were also from Elizabeth, New Jersey.They were produced by Duke Bootee of Sugarhill fame.DJ Cheese (born Plainfield, New Jersey) was the first DJ(USA) to win DMC mixing championship DJs and appeared in the UK tour with Run-DMC.
