court reporting for realz tomorrow. i went to the superior court of justice to check the place out and it kind of frightened me. it's pretty standard though, i suppose. why are court cases so incredibly cliche but emotional? GAWD.

i am reading northrup frye's literary criticism essays "anatomy of criticism" during my spare time... i got allen ginsberg's book back out of the library too. also (supposed to be) reading michael ondaatje's "in the skin of a lion" and the goddamned cugoano book, "thoughts and sentiments on slavery". murf.

my philosophy prof, james, was especially crazy today. someone should have measured the decibels of his voice when he was screaming about greeks and democracy. dear god!

can't wait until tomorrow 6pm.

things i ate today:

- twenty billion carrot sticks with ranch dip
- one soft chocolate chip cookie
- bowl of oatmeal crisp apple brown sugar cereal
- reese's pieces m&ms
- lay's regular chips (like, a lot. ha)
- macaroni salad
- chicken broccoli stirfry with white sauce, rice and veggies
- uh...

heres the end to my ______ day.

d) dream blog
e) smart-alecky review blog of music, movies, books, blah blah blah
f) an abstract philosophical blog about the finiteness of the universe

"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"

a bit of a Harry Potter rant/rave:

***MAJOR SPOILERS***

I LIKED:
  • the very end of chapter 32; Snape's desire to see Lily's eyes before he dies
  • all of chapter 33, "The Prince's Tale". fucking heartbreaking.
  • Snape's memory of his worst day, when he gets flushed and says something like "i would never want to be with a mudblood like her!". totally ironic because that's precisely what he wants, but he's too much of an introverted twisted hermit boy to admit so.
  • the scene in Snape's memory where Snape conjures a Doe Patronus in front of Dumbledore
  • Snape finding Lily's letters in Padfoot's room
  • Dumbledore's flaws in his past
  • Kingsley Shacklebolt as Minister of Magic (albeit temporary)
  • Discovering that Petunia wrote to Dumbledore
  • Potterwatch radio program
  • the book seven cover (obviously the Bloomsbury edition, not the Scholastic one): you can see Griphook behind Harry, clutching onto Godric's sword! Creepy and well-hidden.

I DIDN'T LIKE:

  • James Potter, the bastard. WHY ON EARTH did Lily marry James? ksfjlsfjkldfjsdlk
  • lack of complexity in Aberforth's character
  • flaws and confusion in Dumbledore's Plan
  • Cliched epilogue (I'm just going to pretend it doesn't exist)
  • Predictable parts with no elaborate details (e.g. Snape being on Dumbledore's side was very expected, but how or why was not - all predictable parts should have been at least this detailed!)
  • This book was too short :(

QUESTIONS:
  • if Grindelwald had the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand on earth, how was Dumbledore able to defeat him in 1945?
  • What was Dumbledore's plan, REALLY? (causes way too many headaches to think about.)
  • 19 years later, who is the Minister of Magic?
  • 19 years later, who is the Hogwarts Headmaster? (JKR said it's not McGonagall)
  • Why didn't Snape have a portrait in the Headmaster's office when Harry went back there at the end, to tell Dumbledore's portrait that he's not keeping the Elder Wand?
  • What happened to Luna?!?!? (it pisses me off she was not mentioned in the Epilogue)
  • What is behind the Veil at the Department of Mysteries?
  • What did Harry's parents do to "thrice defy the Dark Lord"?
  • 19 years later, what is Harry's occupation? (ditto Ron, Hermione, Ginny)
  • WHAT KIND OF A NAME IS ALBUS SEVERUS? ugh. that kid is bound to be bullied.
  • Why was Teddy Tonks at Platform 9 and Three Quarters in the epilogue if he had already finished his years at Hogwarts (remember, it was NINETEEN years later)
  • How unrealistic is it that Tom Riddle thought that he was the only one who knew how to get into the Room of Requirement, where he hid Ravenclaw's Diadem?
  • How unrealistic is it that Narcissa actually believes Harry when she asks "Is Draco alive?" and Harry replies "Yes"?
  • What happened to: Arabella Figg, the Dursleys, Delores Umbridge, George Weasley (did he go back to the joke shop without Fred?), Viktor Krum, Hagrid, Griphook, Dean Thomas, Lee Jordan, Oliver Wood, Ollivander, Gregorivitch, etc?
  • Why was Dumbledore tempted by Gaunt's Ring even when he had already given up the Invisibility Cloak (one of the Deathly Hallows)?
  • Harry is a distant descendant of the Peverell family - does that mean he's distantly related to Salazar Slytherin? (aka Gaunt is related to Peverells and Slytherin) -- i need to read this part over again to clarify

FAVOURITE QUOTES

  • "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" - Dumbledore, to Harry
  • Harry's line in the epilogue: "Albus Severus, you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them as a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew."
  • "... and Harry, whose attention had been focused entirely on the two beside the window, saw his father: slight, black-haired like Snape, but with that indefinable air of having been well cared for, even adored, that Snape so conspicuously lacked." - Chapter 33
  • Snape's dying words "Look... at... me..."
  • "You see... I'm holy. Holey, Fred, geddit?" - George, after he loses an ear
  • "It's me, I'm extremely famous." - Ron, to his kids

That's it for now. Will have a huge non-harry potter post later today. Until then, goodbye boys and girls!

jesus, i'm obsessed.

"just because YOU have the emotional range of a teaspoon, Ron, doesn't mean everyone else does"

saw Harry Potter & Order of the Phoenix at the theatre yesterday. my first harry potter movie in six years (the first one disappointed me horribly, thus my boycott for the past years). i talked too loud and someone in the row in front of me scolded me. ooooops. about three minutes into the movie, i wanted an intermission so that i could laugh.

here are some completely random lists

things that sucked:

- harry/hermione/vernon dursley/dumbledore characters. le sigh. there are soooo many things wrong with them, i can't even begin.
- harry's ultra-emoness
- the fact that hermione had 2 expressions during the entire movie
- the feeble and insagacious air of dumbledore
- lack of quidditch
- lack of malfoy scenes. I WANT MORE MALFOY.
- lack of snape scenes.
- cho chang was too whiny
- tonks was too ugly :( god, im picky.
- lupin was too jolly-looking. he probably appeared in movie #3, but i hadn't seen it. how disappointing.
- they didn't show us St. Mungo's
- missing key facts, such as the fact that dumbledore is the order's secret keeper

things that ruled:

- NEVILLE's character. MARRY ME NOW.
- luna lovegood, especially her dreamy voice
- the inside of the ministry, including all the floo network fireplaces, the department of mysteries, the fountain, etc. highly detailed!
- the wizengamot. nice hats.
- azkaban. i know it was brief, and it probably showed up in HP#3 movie, but i obviously haven't seen it. cool triangular building!
- the painted cats in umbridge's office. HAHAHA.
- umbridge herself, actually. she was close to the umbridge in the book.
- fred and george's exiting scene, and the W insignia in fireworks. hahaha
- snape's memories that harry sees through a shield charm (though in the book they're actually in snape's pensieve). snape looks accurately oily and slimy.
- bellatrix lestrange was insanely well-done! she looks like a half-dead zombie!
- the death eaters. ultra creepy.

in conclusion, barely worth the $9 i spent. however, i DID have more than a few laughs (mostly because it was so ridiculous), so i give it 2 stars out of 4.

man i'm such a nerd. i'm looking forward to the next book. comes out in a freaking week!

8 random things:

1. i kinda like that trashy popcountry song by carrie underwood. it goes like this: i dug my keys into the sides of his pretty little souped-up four wheel drive. carved my name into the leather seats...

2. MTV LIVE is much, much, much better than MuchOnDemand.

3. i wish i were going to mcgill along with half the universe and studying something nice and safe, like english or polisci. barf.

4. i'm gonna watch CITY OF GOD tonite.

5. on my birthday in grade one, a boy in my class (who had problems) bit me on the arm and i went home crying.

6. on my birthday the year before THAT, our entire family (thats including grandpa/grandma/ uncle/aunt/cousin) celebrated at T.G.I. Friday's, and i barfed right in the restaurant booth on my princess dress. it was not pleasant.

7. i'd rather go to korea than anywhere else in the world. even more than europe, gasp.

8. when i'm at a grocery store, i scratch the lemon peels and sniff.

i want to defy the logic of all sexx laws

i started a "100 THINGS I WANT TO DO BEFORE I DIE" list after talking to wesley on msn. he admits that his list is pretty cheesey but aren't all the important things in life cheesey? #12 on his list: spend new years eve at times square, ny. #16: read war and peace. protest at a demonstration. shake hands with any president. and so on.

there are only two things on my list. i wonder when i'll even get to #50. i guess i will be making this list for a while.

tomorrow is my first exam. my body is stressed. mhmhmhmhmhmhm lets not think about exams.

some photos that have been lurking on my computer for ages:

one of my pet peeves: when people list their "favourite music" as "EVERYTHING BUT COUNTRY". ugh you retards, your assuming of country as uncool and everything else as acceptable is gross. plus, people who say "i like everything when it comes to music" actually mean they like nothing.

lara and i discussed and made lists of THINGS TO TEACH OTHER over the summer:

lara teach jenny:
chess
poker and other card games
baking
random philosophy

jenny teach lara:
photography
html
drawing
music appreciation 101
guitar

this is the best to-do-in-the-summer idea we've ever had.

ps. so fucking screwed for tomorrow. i got 79 on the last math test hahahaha! thank god it was the last math test OF MY LIFE.

honesty's the best poverty, and liars already won the lottery

this is the final stretch. 2 days of real classes left. 2.5 weeks till my last exam is over. i'm utterly pained to think about the studying to be done. please ignore my boring blog posts (aka ones like these) until school is over, kthxbi.

- chem final (yummers)
- korean final
- english provincial
- history provincial
- french provincial
- chem provincial
- fucking screenplay (ha...................)
- yearbook crap [at least this will be ENJOYABLE.]
- workworkwork

oh shit. do we have the picnic on tuesday? i need to do my stupid screenplay.

Sunday, June 10, 2007

i have to write a 5-page film script by monday. its supposed to be somewhat good. Ehn.

hours after i blogged my last post, ive done pretty much zero work. i took a nap and made udon noodles to eat. the apartment looks like a refugee camp because my sister never cleans up her shit when she comes back from swim meets. swimmers are too high-maintenance, especially the ones on her team.

things to do over the summer:
- take arts umbrella course
- write something
- read everything within reach
- take pictures
- go to the beach
- find good restaurants
- learn to bake
- learn to play chess. (haha!)

seeyas.

- obsessing over the crappiness of ryerson
- should i go to xiao's birthday shindig and get fucked all over?

i need food and sleep. WHY IS THERE SO MUCH WORK TO DO.

yesterday i nearly had a paranoid breakdown. i want to go into a comatose sleep and not come back until i feel all rested. seems like i haven't seen my friends for about two billion years. i can't deal with xiao's drunklor (word credit raymi) birthdaything right now, i might stay at home and watch fight club with my sister, that way i wont fuck around with my head anymore. or maybe i'll work on the stupid grad yearbook.

i feel terrible for missing lara's presentation on john irving. sorry lara. felt sick and feverish in the morning.

shit i need to eat something before i actually throw up on this keyboard. my head feels all dizzy gillespie

ps. ian just called my house. HAHAHAHAHAHA times TWENTY BILLION.

home is where the heartache is

Today was sooooo sunnie. the weather beckons me to come outside and play. roll on the grass. wear shorts and tank tops. WHEEEEE!

i can't wait for this week to end.

my sister gave me these things for my birthday. she is too nice to me because she secretly admires me. we secretly admire each other, though we can't stand each other.

tell us a story, we know you're not boring

here is a short list of cool words:

skittles
snit
idioteque
swashbuckling
duckie
bambi
aubergine
iota
smarmy

... i'm probably the only person in the universe who would care enough to arrange the seemingly non-sequitur order of that list. righto.
