7 years and it still hurts…

My Best Friend died today 7 years ago. It to date has been the hardest thing I have had to deal with. Anyone who knew her loved her. I often reflect on the day I saw her last which was this day. I don’t tell her story often but I will share it today. Lydia and I had lunch atleast once a week on a regular basis. We had planned on a monday to eat lunch on the friday she passed but I had had to cancel earlier in the week because I had a dr’s appointment. Well that friday morning my boss came to me and told me that I had some over time so I could either take a long lunch or leave early. I called Lydia and told her to meet me for lunch since I had some extra time.

We ate Mexican that day. We laughed and had our normal conversation but something struck me as we sat there. She kept mentioning that she had this feeling something was going to happen. She mentioned that her parent’s were scheduled to leave the next morning for Cancun so she was going to leave me after lunch to go see them before they left. She kept thinking she wouldn’t get a chance to say good bye. I of course told her that they would be fine and that nothing was going to happen. Little did I know that this would be the last time I ever saw her or heard her voice again.

She did go see her parent’s that afternoon, got to say goodbye! She even called her sister the night before who went to school in Clemson just to say hi since it had been awhile. After she left her parent’s house, she ran a red light and was in a fatal car accident. Her seat belt failed on her! I didn’t get the call until the next morning from my Dad. I still play his words in my head over and over again…”Jamie…Lydia was killed in a car accident last night!”  I couldn’t breathe..I literally felt like someone had kicked me so hard that I fell to the ground! I screamed I know this much…and had my roommate drive me to his house then to Lydia’s parent’s house.

Yes today has been a sad one for me…even after 7 years. It never gets easier! I never go a day without thinking of her…I even see her in my dreams. The only thing I do know and will never quite understand is that it was her time to go!  She knew it without actually knowing it. She had that feeling but just couldn’t put her finger on it. I also know that my Heavenly Father blessed me immensely for allowing me to see her one last time! If I would have known, I would have hugged her a little longer and a little tighter! He also protected me from seeing her accident because it happened on my normal route home that I took everyday but instead I went home a complete opposite way that day or I would have seen it.

I used to worry that I would forget what she looked like or forget the sound of her voice but I see her and hear her every single day!  She is still with me! It may be awhile but I can’t wait for the day where I get to see her smiling face again!

Lydia…I love you and miss you more than you know!!!

Youngest FAN yet?

When no one was looking, I saw Preston having a secret play date with Ariel’s New Moon Lunch box…

My little reader

Yes, I know…all my blog posts tonight are about my child. I can’t help it…I honestly haven’t had much to blog about lately and really have hit a blogging plateau so i’m trying to get back into the swing of things!

Preston has recently started loving books! He makes Timmy and I read him books all day and all night and I couldn’t be happier about that! I have also found him crawling into his toy box, sitting on top of toys “reading” some of his books.

toyboxI just hope that he always likes to read. Now i’m off to go buy him a potty training book! The sooner we start, the better!  :)

I also took a few cute pictures of him the other night just playing around…since he has this new obsession with the stairs (don’t worry..we are always behind him,) I had a few of him just hanging out.

I also have a confession to make…Preston sleeps in the bed with us!  Yes I said it…I cringed while typing it. Honestly I blame Timmy and that’s the truth. Ever since P was little, Timmy has just HAD to have him right next to him at night!  Now I suffer in the middle of the night by getting kicked and head butted!  No lie! Timmy has tried to put him in his crib during nap time and he sleeps ok but at night he just isn’t having it! I’m so ready to have my bed back!

So at the tender young age of almost 15 months, we turned his crib into a toddler bed…my thought process was that maybe JUST MAYBE, if he sees that he can get in and out of it on his own and knows that our room is right across the hall, he will sleep in it. Not at night…atleast not yet BUT he has been sleeping in it during the day so I think we’re making progress.

So everyone please pray for me and my sanity as I TRY to regain power over MY BED!!!

One more thing…we officially have Preston OFF THE BOTTLE! It didn’t take us as long as we thought which I was thrilled about! I don’t think I could handle many more sleepless nights of parent abuse and bottle withdrawals!

Feel that beat!

Preston LOVES music and LOVES to Dance! But he does not love country music!  Anything with a good beat that he can dance to is his thing..it used to be Beyonce but then he started associating her with nap time and now he hates her. His current favorite is Lady Gaga!  Again…I have video proof!

My mom came over to visit last night so she’s sitting there on the floor next to him cheering him on! I have to say…it’s not hard getting him to dance for other people though…he’s a little showoff!

What Stairs???

So Preston has recently become little Mr. Independent and decided that he’s not scared to go down the stairs anymore. For months he would crawl up the stairs, but never down. He would always stop at the top and then reach his arms out for one of us to grab him. Over the holidays, he had some practice and now he thinks he’s hot stuff…I even have video proof…

I just can’t enough of watching him do this either!  It’s just so funny to me!
