Good Reasons to Write...

Today I remembered how much I love to write.

I have a love/hate relationship with blogging (which is why I post about once per year). But today I wanted to write about a few things that I think are good reasons to write.

Bret had to travel to Logan for work today. I sent him with a note and treat to give to my bestie, Martie. He stopped by her house, she fed him lunch (cause she's super nice like that) and he got to see and hold her new baby before me. I was super jealous.

Look at those chubby baby cheeks! I always dreamed of the day my husband would love my friends just simply because I loved them. Today I realized that dream had come true...and it made my heart full of joy and love.

I can't wait for Bret to be a Dad.

My baby sister is getting married. I am so excited for her. I can't believe she's old enough to get married. Austin is a lucky guy.

My life is full of love, and that alone is cause for blogging.
Love, Holly

Shuffle

I went running the other day, (Don't let me fool you, I'm a terrible runner.) and on this particular run it became wildly obvious that my music selection is severely outdated. Don't ask why I didn't notice this the other 468 times I've used my shuffle in the past couple years. I feel like my Shuffle was alomst judging me for how long it's been since I added a new song.

When the newest tune playing in your headphones is, Beyonce, All the Single Ladies (so 2008) I think it's pretty clear it's time for a music upgrade. Don't get me wrong I love me some Beyonce, I even did a jump rope routine with some friends to this song in my singles ward talent show (I know, pretty awesome), but really it's time. And yes, I realize jump roping isn't really a talent, at least my jump roping skills are not.

I'm in a workout slump, and I'm hoping some new tunes will do the trick. So I guess all I wanted to say was, Hey itunes, you and I are about to get re-aquanted, it's been far to long.

Love, Holly
p.s. If you have any workout favorites, send them my way.

Imagination

One's imagination is a beautiful thing. It's a shame they don't put emphasis on developing your imagination in the workplace like they do when you are a child. When you're a child, it's imagination this, imagination that. Why does it stop after we have grown past the three foot mark?

Just a thought I'd had...thought I'd share it.

The good news is my imagination is alive and well. I guess I've tapped my inner child. I started reading the book series The Hunger Games. I can't get enough. I have a hard time putting my book down. There is something about a good book that makes everything right in the world. I love that I can sit down and for the duration I am reading my real life gets put on hold. I am completely engrossed in someone eles's world...someone else's imagination. The dishes, laundry and errands don't exist when my nose is burried in my book. My imagination is running wild as I create a picture in my mind of what I'm reading. I find it fascinating, and I love when an author can captivate my attention and I have to pry myself away to revisit my real life and wrestle with the dishes, laundry and errands.

I love that reading makes my imagination come alive.

I hid in the trunk

My husband has been in the dreadful state of Michigan (sorry Emily) for the past two weeks. He came home on Friday and it was a sweet reunion! Even sweeter because his parents were in town so we got to party upon his arrival. It was April Fools and I hadn't done any tricks or anything funny yet. So, we decided to have his parents pick him up and I hid in the trunk. I've only traveled in the trunk of a car once before...it was in college, the details are blurry but I remember Brittney Spears being involved. (Don't judge...I was a freshman, and you have to admit Brittney was kind of cool in her early years: knee highs and plaid skirt, enough said.) We pulled up, they popped the trunk and I jumped out and yelled, April Fools!!! He knew I was in the trunk all along. Oh well, it was worth a try, and I learned my trunk is quite roomie.

Luggage

I love it when I get to pull out my luggage. My luggage is a beloved set my boyfriend at the time (now husband) bought me for our first Christmas together. He spoiled me rotten...and I loved it. The luggage was a sign to me of how he understood my love for exploring the world, how he adores surprising me, and simply how much he loved me.

So...I love my luggage for many reasons. I love to pull it out because it usually means I'm going somewhere fun. Last week I pulled it out for him, and he wasn't going somewhere fun. As I pulled it out we noticed it was still adorned with all sorts of baggage tags, name tags, etc. We had a moment of nostalgia as we read the tags and reminsced about our magical honeymoon to Hawaii. Nearly 7 months later we were still experiencing PVD (post-vacation depression).

As I began ripping the tags off this was our conversation:
Him: Are you going to keep those?
Me: For what?
Him: For your scrapbook. (I can never tell if he is half serious when he asks me this question. He asks me all of the time, do you want these tickets for your scrapbook, do you want this, do you want that for your scrapbook? I'm still not sure if he's simply being funny or if deep down he wishes I kept a scrapbook).
Me: You realize I don't actually scrapbook, right? How long have you known me now? Have you ever seen me scrapbook?

I don't remember what was said after that, but what I do remember is taking off the name tag. I opened it and read "Holly Hardy." I was immediately taken back to a moment in the airport as I giggled while writing "Holly Hardy" legitimately on the tag. I was officially Holly Hardy. And I loved it. I was finally married to Bret Hardy, and couldn't be more happy.

As I walked into the other room to throw the tags away, I couldn't do it. I decided to save them...for my scrapbook.

The Look

I was walking into a meeting this morning and the secretary looked at me and said, "You're not feeling well today?" She framed it as a question, but really it was more like a statement.

I'm tired, but overall feeling fine. I guess I must really look like a nightmare today, so I'll hole up in my office and be really productive I suppose.

It's unfortunate I have to be in the office today as the sun is shining and the sky is blue. Although, it's very deceiving because there is a nice layer of white clinging to the grass outside. Come soon spring, please come soon, we desperately want you here. And I think the sun would give me just what I need to look less "sick."

Dear Skin,

I miss the days when you were soft, smooth, non-itchy and blemish-free. Please figure out whatever is annoying you and let me know so we can rid ourselves of it.

Much Love,
Holly Hardy
