December Randomness

Nov 28th

While we haven't been on the ball with updating our blog lately, at least we were on the ball with getting our Christmas tree up and decorated along with decorating our house the day after Thanksgiving. We bought a used fake tree a few years back. Although we miss the fun of picking out a real tree and the real tree smell, it is nice to be able to just put the tree up as soon as we want and it has also saved us some money.

Shaylin was so excited that she got to help put ornaments on the tree this year. Of course we ended up with more ornaments towards the bottom of the tree than the top, but she had so much fun and was so excited to show everyone that came over, the ornaments that she hung.

Our cowboy nativity, Christmas Village and various other decorations on top of the piano (since we don't really have any other place to put them)...

On the 29th, we headed up to Jayna's parents house to have a bbq and to celebrate her Grandpa Brugman's birthday. All of the Brugman side of the family was still in town from Thanksgiving, so it was a lot of fun.

Jayna and Emmalyn laughing together...

Chris (Jayna's uncle) and Shaylin out by the bbq. Shaylin loves Chris and for several weeks her prayers included 'We're grateful for Chris.' Jayna's aunt Tracey also must have made a big impression on her since she was also included on Shaylin's 'grateful for' list during her prayers for quite a while after Thanksgiving.

It's become our tradition in our family to make gingerbread houses each year, thanks to Matt's parents being nice enough to give us a kit every year. Shaylin enjoyed being able to help Jayna with it this year...

Emmalyn had fun just eating snacks and watching Shaylin and Jayna work on the gingerbread house...

Dec 2

We have a similar picture of Shaylin when she was around the same age as Emmalyn is now playing with the Tupperware that she found in our Tupperware cabinet. Emmalyn is still crawling everywhere and is getting more and more interested in what's behind cabinet and regular doors.

Dec 4

Emmalyn's favorite thing to do, besides play with her 'Little People' farm, is to climb in and out of a piece of furniture we have in our hallway by the guest room. Her and Shaylin are starting to be able to play a lot more since Emmalyn is mobile and we often find them playing together. Emmalyn adores her big sister and loves copying her when she's able to.

Jayna made some homemade applesauce with some extra apples we had and Shaylin enjoyed scooping the left overs out of the pan after we were done bottling the rest. The apple sauce turned out delicious!

We swear Emmalyn doesn't spend all her time in her high chair eating, but it's one of the few times when we can get her to sit still long enough to get a good picture...

Dec 6

Emmalyn is now pulling up and standing against anything and everything she can get a hold of or lean on, including the wall. She can take steps while holding on to something and is getting pretty good at walking while someone holds both her hands.

Happy Thanksgiving

Nov 27th - Thanksgiving

As we do virtually ever year we had a fun and busy Thanksgiving. We did Thanksgiving dinner with Jayna's family at her Aunt Dawnie's house in Queen Creek earlier in the day - we ate at about 2:00. Grandpa and grandpa Brugman, Aunt Tracey and Uncle Craig, Uncle Chris and his girlfriend Katie, and Jay's cousin Michelle were all in town, so the only person we were missing was Jayna's sister Jayden, who ended up staying in Utah. We had a lot of fun visiting with everybody and as always the girls were a big hit since they are still the only great grand children on that side. Since we had another Thanksgiving dinner to eat in a few hours we had to go easy, but the food was delicious!!

After that we headed back down to meet Maricopa to eat with Matt's side of the family at Becca and Andy's house. Matt's parents were in town along with his Grandma Olsen, so the whole immediate family was there plus John's girlfriend Lacey and Jayna's sister Jaymee (who came down for Bingo and then to sleepover at our house). We ate there at about 5:00pm. Since it was our second big 'dinner' of the day we didn't get to eat a ton, but the food was delicious there too.

After dinner we kept the Olsen/Hedges tradition of Thanksgiving Bingo alive. Mom and dad get a bunch of $1 store type gifts and we play bingo until everybody has about the same amount of presents and then we open them. Matt loved playing when he was a kid and still loves it. It's even more fun now because Shaylin got to play and she was really excited for all the presents and ended up walking away with a lot of cute little books and other things.

Emmalyn enjoying her second round of eating at the Baker's...she actually ate real turkey and yams for the first time, as opposed to the baby food kind she ate earlier at Dawnie's. She loved it!
