Subject: maranga!!
so last week i was terrible at emailing because we only had a 30 minute period to write, so im going to make up for it today!so first things first, im in a new area called Maranga. it is incredible! i feel like i am in the states! there are so many rich people here its crazy. we have had taught people and ate at houses where there is a famous soccer player right next to us! they are so generous and loving. we spent christmas at a house that was the wife of a famous soccer player for Perú! we have been eating at their house for the last 4 days in a row! they always feed us so much amazing food and they always invite us back! i love my new area! its so different from Callao and i didnt like it at first because i feel like im walking around in the states, but im used to it now and i love it!so on christmas wer had permission to stay out until 1230 because in Perú they open presents and celebrate christmas at midnight, not in the morning. And we got to go up on the room and at midnight everyone launches fireworks from the streets! we got to see all of Lima because we were on the 12th story. there were fireworks going off 50 feet above our heads, it was so fun and dangerous! hahawe also sang a ton on the 24th. we went to 2 different malls and sang christmas songs untill we got kicked out and we were also singing in the buses as we went from mall to mall! we sang like 5 songs in the first mall before we got kicked out but the second mall we didnt even finish one song and security came and told us to leave. it was fun and we contacted a ton of people. there was even two girls in questionable clothes that were promoting a party for new years and me and my companion went up and talked to them about the gospel and they were reseptive (somewhat) and then they gave us an invitation and said " this is stuff that you guys cant do" and then laughed haha it was an experience!this week was hard for lessons and finding new people but we managed to have a few lessons and we talk an amzing lady who really wants us to help her with her kids. she told her story and the story of her kids and explained that her son is a very faithful member of the church, but her daughter was atheist and they both live in Madrid Spain. we asked us to help her recieve the same happiness that she has seen in her son and she started to cry and i felt such a buning warm feeling in my heart that shouted that i need to do whatever i can to help this lady. i felt the spirit so strong and i cant wait to see how she grows and progresses and becomes closer to her family, because i know that that is what the message we share does. it helps families feel closer and invites a spirit of love and peace into the home.welp thats all i got for this week, my time is cut short again this week, so i gots to go. i love all yall and thank you for everything and all the support! i love hearing all about you guys!!Elder Hafer

wow... there is a lot of stuff this week!
the most memorable event and the thing that was most fun this week was the chance to actually go outside the walls of the CCM and preach! we got to go to the Lima east mission and pair up with lds members and missionaries that are in that mission. so we drove like an hour to get to the mission and we drove through some of the poorest areas i have ever seen. when we got to the chapel where we were meeting the other missionaries, the chapel stood out like a sore thumb! this huge building right next to this super poor area of town. we go into the chapel and we see some missionaries and some members. there wasnt enough missionaries to pair everyone with a missionary so some of us including me went out with a member! i was paired with a member of the stake counsel so the man i was with knew alot about the gospel but no english... this was rough because my spanish is terrible. its like a 3 year old trying to speak...but we set out to teach people and the guy knew where he was going.
we walked for like ten minutes and then took a fifteen minute buss ride up the side of a mountain. this was super crazy, because as we got towards the top of the mountain, we started to see the really poor areas, which is really hard for me to witness. when we got pretty close to the top, we had to stilk walk for 5 minutes and the roads were all dirt now. and the houses were boxes with 4 walls. we got to the first how that the man had on his list and we started talking to a young man named Pedro who was 16 and really didnt want to talk to us but we talked about th book of mormon a little bit and then we left. and while we were at the top of the mountain, we could look down and see the huge grouping of houses that were like favelas in Brazil. i wish i had my camera because that would have been the coolest picture. but they said we could not bring them.
we then started to walk down the hill and we saw soo many stay dogs and one started to follow us. we then got to a very small store, no bigger that a normal bedroom and this man an d women were there and they were the owners and we asked if we could talk to them for a little big and share a message with them. they agreed and we started to talk about the book of mormon and the gospel and how it was restored. the man seemed interested and he was a non practicing catholic. i started with questions trying to get to the man and the man i was with just took the lead and spoke to these two with such passion and love and eventhough i didnt understand everything he said i understood enough to bear my testimony and ask them some questions that i felt inspired to ask. we ended our conversation with them when i told them that if they read this book and pray to know the truth that they will recieve an answer and he accepted and he was so excited that i gave him a Book of Mormon which made me feel way happy!
we then started to walk down to the chapel again but we had one more house to try and that one dog was still following us down the hill! we get to the house and no one is there so we go down to get in a moto taxi and i jump in but the dog jumps in with me!! and the man i was with laughed and pulled the dog out. when we got back to the chapel we were one of the last ones, and we stated sharing our experiences and it was crazy what some people did and i felt really frustrated because i knew so little spanish. i came back to the CCM super upset and angry at myself for not knowing the language and then the mext day in our meetings the leaders were speaking and they just randomly said, dont worry if you dont know the language right now. they told me that you dont really learn the language untill you leave the CCM and live the language. i got super motivated after they spoke to me and i was so grateful for their counsel.
all of the other days were the same...all spanish all day, with a break in the middle of the day to play some sports for an hour... spanish is tough and it is still coming very slowly but it is coming.
keep emailing i always enjoy reading about home!
the Church is true!

alright well first of all im sorry for being lame and not writing alot last week. one hour is suuuper tough and its definetly not enough time to email everyone back. ugh...but life goes on and i think one of the most important things i have learned so far here in the CCM is to not stress and worry about little things and dont get frustrated because there is a bigger picture. i truley believe that if you just live your life to your own satisfaction then things will workout in the long run. im starting to actually have converstaions with people now, like today we talk to two ladies who were catholic and they didnt really like alot of the things about the catholic church but they had a true belief in }God and Jesus Chrit and we talked for like 10 minutes and they both agreed to read the book of Mormon which was waaaay cool. and if we doint understand a word they will dummy it down and talk slower so we can understand which is super helpful. all the people here are amazing, i cant wait to be on the streets of Lima all day everyday!!!last friday we tried to speak only spanish for an entire day...it was rough,... but we got through it somehow. its crazy to think that in 3 months i will be near fluent in this language...it jusrt blows my mind.
all the days here just blurr together, the schedule seems like it goes sunday (which is church) wednesday (which is when we get to go outside for 4 hours) and saturday (which is when we plan for the rest of the week). i was made district leader this sunday even though 30 minutes before the branch presidency called me to be the district leader they saw me sleeping during personal study (which has never happened before, but for some reason i was super tired that day).
i have started to teach the natives slang and terms from beack home. i taught one of my teachers and almost all the latinos to say "what up duude" whenever they see me so i hear that all the time and it is hilarious how they say it haha just imagine 4 foot tall people running around saying "what up duude" in a Nacho Libre accent lol its the best thing in the world!!!!
yeserday one of my little latino buddies who is like 3 and a half feet tall was super depressed and sad and he came up to me and my companion in tears because he logged on to email his family and no one had written him and i felt so bad for him because he only spoke spanish and didnt understand english and we didnt know how to comfort him in spanish. and then i remembered that he said he really lioked my tie earlier that day and so i ran up to my room grabbed another tie, because i was wearinbg the tie he lioked and found him again and took off my tie and gave it to him and the little guy just lit up! he was so happy and excited and he made me feel so special even though it was just a plain old tie, but it ment the world to him apparently. and now evertime he sees me he gives me the biggest hug and i just love these little Peruvians!!!!
well thats about all that happened this week, nothing too exciting, just the same old same old here in Perú!!
i also gave a blessing to an hermana on tuesday which is my second blessing i have been asked to give a bleesing her and it worked the first time so fingers crossed it will work agin lol
but seriously its crazy how the spriit takes over and words just come and i promnise things that i would normally never promise and i feel totally confidate and its an amazing experience. i love this gospel, i love these people and i deffinetly love my mission and all the onther missionaries here in the CCM
HMU with some questions if you have any and and cant wait to hear from you!
la iglesia de Jesucristo de los santos de los útimos días es verdad!! hasta luego!!

updates
wow, long time no blogging! jenny still inspiring me! she teaches a "write your story class" through church and I think that is so great. I try to write /journal and I have started several different journals. not very organized on that -sigh..... I used to think I was an organized person but not so sure anymore- more like organized chaos around here for sure! I haven't blogged in so long I hardly recognize it and I can't figure out how to download pics! oh well, maybe tomorrow.
