visit to Guam

This is in front of the mission office for Micronesia Guam. There are two senior couples here and several sets of young missionaries. One of the office elders served on Kosrae. It was fun to talk with him and hear first-hand about what to expect on the island.
This is a cave that the Japanese used when they knew that the US military was going to win the war. Many of the soldiers committed suicide in these caves but there were others who hid so well that they weren't found for twenty-five years after the war ended! You can see how easy it would be to hide here. If you didn't know there was a cave, you could walk right by and miss it entirely.

Guam is a beautiful island. We are staying at the Hilton on the beach. This is the other side of the island where there are lots of inlets and places for ships to come in.

Dad has always loved the flowers. These are plumeria flowers. They really smell good. The picture is taken at a WWII memorial to the Japanese. The building in the background is a Buddhist temple where people come to mourn and remember their Japaese ancestors. It smelled good inside because when people come they light insense and pray. We tried to light some but it had started to rain and the humidity was too much. We couldn't get any lit.

We visited a place called Two Lovers Point. It's at a very high point on the island and the story is that two lovers jumped off the cliff tied together by their hair when their parents wouldn't let them marry. Good thing that the two lovers in this picture had parents who let them marry...over 40 years later they still feel like newly weds!

hawaii

The Hawaiian coast was beautiful. This was taken along the North Shore. The Hawaiian temple is in the background. Isn't it beautiful?

We were treated royally by John Mills and his family. He is the scout administrator for our island of Koarae and lives in Hawaii. His wife (Ivona) and their six girls had us in their home for dinner on Sunday.

After dinner the girls danced the hula for us. Gordon tried his best...how does he look?

Here the three youngest girls showed us their dance skills. The hula is very graceful. These girls really enjoyed dancing for us...can you seeit in their faces?

Thanksgiving

Dallin and our cousin Doug set up a tight rope in the yard

Anna was a natural

Dallin helped all the young kids try walking the tight rope
Maddie almost made it across
Tanner wasn't quite as luckyEven grandma tried...oops!
Grandpa cheered everyone on
Meanwhile, inside, Linnae cut Gordon's hair

Ellie helped Grandma in the kitchen
Sarah and LeeAnn worked in the kitchen
We feasted on turkey, ham, salads, veggies, rolls, potatoes of all sorts and plenty of desserts

The best part was on Sunday.  No family holiday with everyone home would be complete without a photo...how often do you get all 26 of us together at one time?!

Blogging Beginnings

Sarah has just helped me set up a blog so that we can log our family activities. This past week Gordon and I went to Anthem, Arizona for Georgia's baptism. We enjoyed their family and were happy to be there for such a special occasion.
