What I am doing now

You are most likely here because you enjoy crafting. I have been reading up on some of the WoW issues regarding gold making, which make me realize that WoW is not the game for me.

If you want to play a game where gathering and crafting is the cornerstone of the economy, and are not faint of heart, I recommend EVE Online. EVE even has releases purely to support industry. You can play for free if you are good enough manufacturer or trader.

Be the builder in a villainous world.

(Politics) Clinton wants to protect the internet

Every now and then I will subject readers to my political viewpoints.  Today is one of those days.  But I will let others say my thoughts for me

Clinton Calls For Ground Rules Protecting Internet(slashdot),
  • 'For the United States, the choice is clear; on the spectrum of Internet freedom, we place ourselves on the side of openness.' Hillary Clinton
  • Hillary, Talk to your boss and let him know that a "kill switch" is a bad idea. The Internet
  • Oh that's good - I'll let Julian Assange know. Openness
  • US Govt Mistakenly Shuts Down 84000 Sites

Hillary, *cough* *cough* bulls$#!t *cough* *cough*.

Mind you, in Australia, our own Steven Conroy is no better.  So Conroys internet filter wont block political speech? (crikey.com)

Terrorism (Politics)

The US Republican Senate leader has called WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange a “high-tech terrorist”.  In my opinion the US Republican Senate leader is an ass.

I already have problems with the real and exceptionally expensive war on so called terrorism.  I can cope with a war on the enemy, but this "terrorism" is bullshit:

While I am not a lawyer, I suspect that Wikileaks might have broken copywrite law. It has published a lot of stuff that I think was written by someone else.

Wilileaks may be seditious. Every opposition party is probably seditious.

Terrorism is serious. Lots of people have died of it. For a point of reference compare the number of deaths by terrorism vs other causes. Some politicians will call those that disagree with them terrorists. This cheapens the term and makes it meaningless.

Australia's ABC News Radio has a newspoll (right hand side) about whether or not readers agree with the US Republican Senate Leader. There are no prizes for guessing my vote.

I will rarely subject readers to my political views. I know it is not what some of you are here for. I will label political posts in the title.

By today's definition, Guy Fawkes was a terrorist. One that the west has celebrated for centuries.

Our new minority overlords (Australian Politics)

I welcome our new minority overlords.

I want my politics on the front page of the paper.  Even on a Murdoch owned paper.  It will be uncomfortable.  You will be hearing about politics till you are sick of it.  We know the alternative: politics in back rooms; and politicians that represent themselves instead of us.  Every single lower house politician knows their vote counts.

I welcome a National Broadband Network with no internet filter.  Cost be damned, it is what I want.  In 3 years time I'll complain about the cost, but I've been whining about those for a long time.  I am tired of a laggy disconnecting connection to WoW.

If you want majority government, its simple.  Don't vote for the independants.  Vote below the line in the senate.
A vote for majority government looks like this
Vote 1 Major Party A
Vote 2 Major Party B
Vote 3+ the rest.

If you voted above the line, if you put the independants between Labor and Liberal, you voted for this minority government.  As for me, I vote for minority government.  I beleive that government should get out of our faces.

A vote for minority government looks like this
Vote 1: Good Independant
Vote 2: Another Good Independant
...
Vote 5: Major Party A
Vote 6: Major Party B
Vote 7: Bad Independant

The rest of you vote like this:
Vote 1: Major Party A
Vote 2: Good Independant
....
Vote 6: Bad Independant
Vote 7: Major Party B

This is a vote of a drone.someone who wants their party to get in, and to make it hard for the other major party.  It suits back room deals.  It causes stupid things like Labor giving Family First a deciding senate seat, instead of a sympathetic person.

I won't submit readers to many political posts.  The last time was election day.  Today is when we know what government we will get.

To quote Mr Oakeshott : "This is going to be a cracking Parliament. It's going to be beautiful in its ugliness."

In Aus, Minorities Rule (Politics)

I like my politics on the front page of the paper instead of in the back rooms of unknown buildings.
Australia Votes (ABC)
Both Labor and Liberal have run a campaign based around "Don't vote for them", being very light on policy.
  • Labor's (the previous goverment) campaign was based on forgetting about what they did last term, replacing their own Prime Minsiter to do so.
  • Liberal's campain was to stop the boat people (all 2000 of them).
  • At least we knew what the S-x Party stood for (I think).
Well, the voters have listened.  With compulsory voting they voted for the other guy, with 2 new independents (now we have 5), with what looks to be 72 seats to Labor and 73 to Liberal, and we probably won't know for 2 weeks.

My apologies for bringing real life politics to WoW.  I won't do it often, but election days are ... special.
You will hear terrible things about minority governments.  The worst of which is that politicians will listen to what people want.  You will hear more about politics and politicians than you ever did before.

The campaign for the next election starts now.
