a textile day !

Yesterday daughter and I visited the
"Textiel Festival"
in Amersfoort.



It was the last day of four days stuffed to the brim :
with the presence of all the major textile associations,
workshops, lectures, the results of a competition,
exhibitions through the (lovely old) city,
an Arts & Crafts market and
about 800 "hoops" ("Rondje Textiel")
filled with any textile technique
you can think of !!!

It was a sunny and (too) warm day
so we picked the things we liked most to visit.
I'm sorry to say we just missed "The Red Dress"
because we had to wait too long for a time-slot
but we're happy to have seen the "Colorminds"
and the three "LAK" ladies.
(and of course we came home with some goodies !)

It was a wonderful day !!!

and all the volunteers who made this possible !

ART MARKET Amerongen

again !

If you are anywhere near,
please come to Amerongen to this wonderful market
with lots of organic products, design and art
to choose from.
And . . . there will be music too !

In addition to my gouache paintings I am also bringing
textile panels with birds, with flowers and with abstract stitching,
and lots of felt objects.

 

Textile jewelry : like the new necklace here,

small felted bags, fish, finger puppets and insects.

snippets

The long "Tabula Rasa" strip
that I started in Januari
is lying around most of the time
but near by
in case I want to add some snippets
or make a few stitches.

Because with the start of spring near
and the garden changing each day a bit more to green
I decided to move that colour
for this month.

There are clumps of yellow
of the small "tête-à-tête" daffodils
but the rambler rose is already showing many green leaves !

I leave this for a bit :
other (red) things to do !

March already
and the weather is really spring-like.
Snowdrops, aconites and crocuses are gone
but bunches of small daffodils
and wood anemones are taking over.

The lava-piece is growing slowly.

The center section will be the flowing lava
so there will be lots more dark stitching
on the top and bottom
(20 x 50 cm)

Of course there are some lovely
Kaffe Fasset bits in this piece !

There will be another RED piece in the making in a hoop
that has to be finished by the end of the month !

I love that colour
(I even have 4 pairs of red shoes !)
But this time I made a base for stitching in red.
(50 x 20cm)

There are all kinds of snippets in it
that have special memories for me, I like that.

Of course the next step is always
basting everything invisibly down, the way Jude Hill taught us.
So every bit is really secure before any real stitching starts.

I don't have a clear idea of where this is all going
but I saw a marvelous video somewhere
of lava streaming from a volcano.
HOT

I let it rest a bit for now
(and work on something else) 

more colour . . .

The white start of my "Tabula Rasa"-project
has changed to a bit more colourful snippets.

I've thought about the gradual change in colour
and I've come up with a rough scheme now.
The white of the wintry start of the year will
be followed by yellow.

Why ?

THIS is why !!!
When most of the cold is over
the Aconites push their bright yellow heads
through the old Ginkgo leaves that cover the ground !
Yes, way before the Snowdrops, though they
come soon after.

 

And because the weather here in the southwest of the country
is very mild right now
even the first small crocuses are showing !
(the northeast had LOTS of ice, snow and even black ice last week !!!)

But    YELLOW  it is
for the next part of my 15 cm whide strip !

I found a bit of my "Magic Thread" for an extra swirl
(which will appear in the work from time to time
though there is only a small ball left)

(SOOOOO many other ideas are whirling in my head
and I've started a few backgrounds already
but
I can't seem to decide what to do next with them)

2026

A brand new year has started
so time for some new work to start too :
a 15 cm wide strip of cotton
that I randomly filled with white snippets
the "Tabula Rasa" of the new year 2026
Colour and stitching are my "plan"

Hmmmm
In fact I know that I'm not quite disciplined enough
to keep up a looong challenge
. . . . .
so what am I doing now ???

I started a "year long" circle embroidery
(and didn't even finish the first month)
I started on a pillow case with the TAST instructions
(and that is an UFO too)

Well, we'll see where it will lead me
(or where the ship runs aground)

In any case :

the white matched nicely !!!

Yes, this happens every year :
as soon as day 31 of "Pinktober" is gone
I go out like a candle
or like a soufflé right out of the oven into the cold.
As much as I LOVE my self-imposed work
the energy really lasts only so many days.
But don't worry, I will get back on my feet !
Two more commissions nearly there
and most of my packages sent off.
(though I hate the fact that customs asks nearly impossible things
when sending to the US)

My grand total isn't known yet
so that has to wait another while

Today my "Pinktober Challenge" ends :

(and many other things can be celebrated on this day)

You might think that I feel a bit relieved
and to be honest I am.
But I can also say that I'm a bit sad that it all ends here.
Though not quite
because there are a few commissions to make
so the end-total will still have to wait a bit.
But don't worry : I'll let you all know !

I enjoyed my felting and stitching journey
these past 31 days and I will end
with little "firecracker" in red !

The little green circle lay waiting for some days.
I just pick the one that speaks to me most at that moment.
Not many left, so the choice was easy.
And just when I was finished stitching
and taking the pictures
. . . .
 a robin sat on the pergola 
No, he didn't wait till I had my camera ready
but I think he/she wanted to say
that I did the right thing !
